  • Nux MG 300 Review. In this video, I will show you how to use the NuX MG-300 as a vocal processor. While at it's core, the MG-300 is a guitar modeling processor, it includes fantastic effects that can be used as a vocal processor. All that's required is a impedance transformer for your dynamic mic or a mic preamp for your condenser mic. Imagine getting that classic rotary Led Zeppelin vocal sound with the MG-300. It's very possible. Enjoy!

    I am enjoying all your videos on the MG300. It is really helping me understand all I can do with it. As I also play harmonica, can I plug the green bullet mic straight into the MG300 or does it need the impedance transformer? I am keen to try out some effects for the harp.

      I second this comment. You really do a great job of explaining these pedals. I need to stop watching your videos though - I just bought this pedal and the Digitech Trio+ today, mostly based on what I found you could do with them from your videos. You're costing me a crap ton of money man, ha ha!!! Keep up the great videos :)

    Great stuff! Can you point me to the specific impedance transformer you use? I guess it should have preferably an XLR male input with a Hi-Z output? Or did you have a preamp in between?

    • @ThePedalGuy
      @ThePedalGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There’s no preamp in between. Just a dynamic mic and impedance transformer that goes from XLR to 1/4”

    • @ThePedalGuy
      @ThePedalGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. There are plenty of videos out there that can expand greatly on the usage of an impedance transformer. But you do need one in this case as well.

    This video got me really excited as my NUX MG-300 was in the mail last week. I had not considered this use case and it's such a cool idea (I'm even thinking about how this could work into a Tascam 424 cassette multitrack!). Thanks for the tutorial!
    Meanwhile - I've now received the unit and out of the box it's not sounding great in headphones to me. Anyone have tips on how to get better sound in headphones? I've seen a lot of chatter re: impedance etc. For me there is a lot of weird noise and distortion and levels are really low. Planning to do some troubleshooting this weekend, but curious if others have had this issue and were able to resolve it.

    • @ThePedalGuy
      @ThePedalGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you enjoyed the video. That's the beauty of using pedals like this. Don't let them box you in creatively!
      I haven't experienced any headphone issues and I've used at least 3-4 of these units when testing them. what is the impedance of the headphones you're using?

    • @mattwright9596
      @mattwright9596 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThePedalGuy I'm using AKG K275s. Impedance is listed as 42 Ohm. It very well could be my guitar cable, an output jack issue or a pot issue with my guitar. Going to be doing some troubleshooting over the weekend. I think for me a thing to know about these types of pedals is that you need to get into the editor to make them really shine.

    • @mattwright9596
      @mattwright9596 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I get the concept but why is there such a difference in tonal sound quality between these two mic's? Try putting that big fancy mic thru the pedal and see if it is the quality of the mic's or the quality of the pedal. Please let me know what you discover. Thanks for the Demo.

    • @ThePedalGuy
      @ThePedalGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI Sean. Thanks for the question. The difference is that the dynamic mic is more for live vocals than the condenser. It will sound thinner than a condenser plain and simple.
      It's a good suggestion and I would very much like to give the condenser mic a shot. Just didn't have time to hook it into the MG-300. Should be able to get to that at some point though. So far the response has been decent for this video. Sound off if you want to hear it with a condenser!

    • @seanwalsh999
      @seanwalsh999 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThePedalGuy I suppose that you have the condenser mic hooked up to a mixer, for it's phantom power, I wonder if you could take the line Level out of the mixer to your impedance matching transformer and send it to your pedal? Thanks for your previous response.

    • @ThePedalGuy
      @ThePedalGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just listen to what I said in the Mic Type section of the video. If you're using a dynamic mic, you use an impedance transformer and plug it into the back of the MG-300. That's it. There's no USB trickery past that.
