In most cases when you have a spec that calls for a torque plus 90 deg, then it means the bolts are torque to yield and should not be reused. You can reuse but you are risking that one of the bolts might come loss or may not be applying the required clamping force. Thumbs up on your video work and it looks like you enjoy wrenching. Cheers
Tengo el mismo problema en veloster sin turbo, donde compraste las piezas, me podrías recomendar el lugar y que marca de partes compraste? Saludos y excelente tus videos
so glad i found your channel I'm fixing to rebuild my VT, other than the pins being different in the connecting rods how simmer is the na to the turbo?

Brother I really enjoyed your video thank you for showing and sharing information, where are you located at I'm going through the same situation with my car I am the proud owner of a 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 I'm having a very loud tapping sound on my engine
Glad to help you guys. Thanks for the support. Unfortunately the problem with the Hyundai engine it is the knocking. If you use 83 octane fuel the engine will be constantly knocking and eventually that will create a play in the pistons pins that will sound like valve train problems.
Where did you buy your parts? Pistons, rods, gaskets, etc. Did you use the old tensioner? When installing the timing chain gears to the cams, do the gears only go on a certain way so you know it's not rotated in the wrong direction? My friend's Veloster is burning oil and I'm thinking we need to do this exact same job you did. Do you think it'll solve the oil burning issue?
I googled the parts online and bought everything oem. I used the old tensioner because everything was clean and the car didn’t have to much millage. The timing gears have marks on it. If you put everything together with new parts it will fix the oil burning from the pistons side but you have to check the head also.
How did you get the upper oil pan off to get to the piston bolts? I got the 2 bolts off from the inside of the bottom after removing the oil pan. Got the bell housing bolts out, and the 8 or 10 bolts around the sides. It's coming off at the front of the engine (timing chain side) but it is not coming off on the back (transmission side)
great videos! very helpful (: I have veloster 2011 NA and the fuel consumption in the city is 19 mpg with eco on and relaxed driving with minimum ideal time. also there are noises from the engine that sounds like little explosions that you can feel(the car shakes a little bit) more than hearing and its comes in irregular pace. do you have any suggestions what it could be? Thanks!
The first thing you have to check is the coils. When they are starting to get bad then to do that that you are describing. And change the spark plugs also. You have to start with the cheeper parts. A question, does it have the check engine light on?
No the oem ones. The problem on this are not the rods the problem is that if you use 87 octane the engine runs knocking and that constant knocking damage the pistons pins and the rod bearings.
Awesome video and subbed! Just picked up a 2012 Veloster non turbo and trying to get all the info I can on these things! So you basically what is called a top end rebuild correct?
Well I put brand new pistons and connecting rods. This is because the noise was coming from the pistons pins and damage both parts. For the rest of the engine everything was in good work condition.
@@PIBRACINGCHANNEL yeah I read online the early models were known for weak connecting rods eventually causing possible damage to the engine block. Who did you go through to get the new pistons and rods and rings?
Hello i have a 2013 veloster base sport , put in brand new battery , car won't crank while in park, park light blinking , but will crank in N, it makes a clicking noise. Please help!!!
It sounds like a bad neutral safety switch. That is a switch on top of the transmission that tells the computer that the car is in parking so it will let it start.
Hey buddy got a 2013 veloster just put new pistions and rings it was rotating when I was setting timing got it back together now the crank won’t move at all what in the world did I do wrong?
Sorry but I bought it like that. This year and model of Veloster have this problems because it computer program is set with the air/fuel mixture to be too lean. There is a recall to change the program of the computer. I recommend to use 93 octane fuel to prevent the engine predetonation because that is what is causing the problem.
I have a knocking noise on my manual transmission veloster n.a, i notice it happens when theres a load going to the front of the engine. Is that the issue you faced? Most people i went to have no idea what it is. Appreciate the advice if you could give it!
Yes and at first I thought that the connecting rod bearings but it turned out that it was the pistons pins that were producing that noise and you ac see in my video how I fixed it.

Thanks man and thank you for the support
Great job man, thanks for the material and content! Purring amazing.
Thanks so much.

No different at all, engine wise but the external stuff like the piping and turbo everything else is the same, Internals are stronger in the Turbo one.

You have to cut the pins on the side of the transmission with a thing grinder wheel. This is the only way without taking out the transmission.
@@PIBRACINGCHANNEL Im not that far along yet, still working on the head and timing chain. How many pins will I have to cut on the tranny?

So for the cylinder head studs is it just torque until you can’t anymore or do they torque to 21.7 ft lbs
22 and then 90 degrees
Amazing!!! I’m ready for you to do mine nexttt✨
Let me know and i will.
Did you order the rods for a 2016. I know the rods are thicker on the newer models
No the oem ones. The problem on this are not the rods the problem is that if you use 87 octane the engine runs knocking and that constant knocking damage the pistons pins and the rod bearings.

I googled oem hyundai parts and the choose the one with the best price.
@@PIBRACINGCHANNEL thanks for the reply mate roughly how much you spend on the parts?
Where did you get the parts from?
Hey i need the torque specs ans sequence on the engine do u have them by any chance
Yes
It is 21.7 lb-ft + 90Degrees +90 degrees again from center to outer bolts in a x pattern.

Until what point of the build it was moving?
I see that the oem parts come in grades, a b and c. I assume for oversize. what grade did you get?
Everything standard OEM parts.
Where did you purchase your parts for this rebuild?
Online. I google Hyundai oem parts and bought everything online.
How is the oil pressure?
It was 35 to 40 in idle and 80 in high rpm.
Where do you buy the pistons ?
I made a search in Google and looked up for oem Hyundai parts and the chosen the best price store.
I have 2015 maybe same problem. Knocking engine. How much dose that cost?
how long did the engine last before engine issues?

how many miles did you have on your vehicle before it started to happen?
Could you give me an estimate on how much you would charge me to do this exact job on same exact model ??
Are you available for questions on regards to this?
Yes let me know
If I dropped the valve lashes how di u know which one goes where?
Did you need a helper mechanic in there b-cuz look you get toast up&down working in the floor let me know I'm ready for any car
Thank for the offer but not for now. Let you know in the future if I need one.
Thanks for the support
How much would you charge for a job like this?!
That will depend on the extent of damage in the engine but in the worst case scenario +/- $1500.00 labor + parts.
Quedo bueno
Necesito arreglar el mio soy de kissimme
mi hermano te necesito
Como t ayudo
@@PIBRACINGCHANNEL hermano quiero ser un engine swap a la accent mia yo te tire por instragram
Damn I wanted to hear the knocking before you took everything apart
Some sound like valve lifter problems and some are bad enough that you can hear the road bearing knocking.
