My 92 civic will turnover and start but the moment I let go of the key after I start the car it turns off. Will replacing the cylinder fix that or do I need to replace the whole ignition switch?
Is it the correct key for the cylinder? If you're talking about the one you're trying to replace and its damaged by being stolen or something similar you might have to drill it out enough that you can just pull the remains out and just slot the new one in.
@@wilbersanchez5338 If the key slides in no issues but wont turn you might have to pull the tumbler out and lubricate it, or it could be a bad copy? Try wiggling it and flipping it and see if that helps or see if the steering wheel lock is on. Other than those I'm not too sure what your problem could be unfortunately.
You might be able to use a screw driver gently and see if it spins. If you're just replacing it and need to get it out you'll probably have to drill the old cylinder out completely
Have you completed this job? i noticed the OEM ignition cylinder pin is smaller than the new ignition cylinder lock i bought off ebay. i can’t get the new ignition cylinder pin to click into place. the spring inside is straight (not bent), i can get the new ignition cylinder into the correct position but no matter how hard i try, the pin doesn’t click in and i can’t turn the key without taking the ignition cylinder completely out again.
also the ebay seller says in the title that the ignition cylinder set i bought fits my 1994 Honda Civic Hatchback DX. But i can’t seem to make the pin fit into place. any help would be much appreciated
@@kevinklien90 man it was a fking mission. i bought the lock cylinder set that came with everything including 1 trunk lock cylinder, 2 door cylinders, 1 ignition lock cylinder. all the cylinders fit perfectly except the ignition lock cylinder. i’m 99% sure the ebay seller sold it knowing it would need to be messed around with to make it fit. i had to buy a file and file down the pin slowly and keep reinserting the ignition lock cylinder until it clicked into place. now, it works completely fine. on the plus side, the seller refunded me $40. i forgot but i think i bought the whole lock cylinder set for like $70.
@@kevinklien90 everything i wrote above was almost 2 months ago. everything functions normally now. all i had to do was to carefully file down the pin on the ignition lock cylinder. before replacing the lock cylinder, i had to finger fck the oem key in the oem lock cylinder for like 5 minutes to make it turn to the on position to start.

Good video. Suggest changing the title (91-00) to match the actual year of the car as indicated in the video (96-2000). Nice walk through though!
Thanks
Were you able to put it back in your car with that broken bracket?
What if the key doesn't even move/switch inside the ignition switch

@@wilbersanchez5338 It's a bit of a pain but with some patience it isn't terrible honestly. I'd say give it a shot if nothing else works!
Super helpful video. Thanks
Hey thank you I appreciate it!
I don't have the key at all to turn to on position. What do I do?

@@RaineLutz I have a couple questions.
Do you have to do anything to the ecu?
Nope nothing at all!
Putting it back in is much harder than taking it out.
