Levi's 501s are the only jeans I've worn since the 1970s. These days, I wear them with my black Tecovas Jackson boots, and I've never failed to receive a compliment whenever I leave the house. Even though Tecovas boots have only been around for a short while, pairing them with 501s creates a look that is both modern and classic.
Indeed my FIRST choice preferred are stf501s, have tried the water soaking method & got hooked on process! Swimming fun too, of course no cowboy boots usually worn, LOL!
I've worn that combination for decades. Add a nice belt, form fitting T and a black leather cafe jacket. Wear that outfit out anywhere and watch all the women taking a double take.
Here's a what I do, I have 2 small dog collars that I use on my boots. I fold them over and strap a dog collar to keep the boot tight. I hate that jean over boots look. Been doing it for years and screw a boot cut jean. Looks like bell bottoms.

They still promote their original image but now complete with the likes of H&M, American eagle etc so if you want the real thing you need to thrift them and it’s better for the environment as well.
I don't have cowboy boots yet BUT I always loved how they dressed Raylan Givens in the show JUSTIFIED, and he only wore 501's and had some gorgeous Lucchese cigar brown ostrich boots!
The Levi jeans are looking good. If you want to wear those Levi’s with a shorter shaft boot you may be able to do that if the leg length of the jeans was shorter, not allowing as much stacking, then the jeans could fall straight and not into the boot shafts. I really like the rise on those! I agree though I think Levis made their pant legs more narrow to add a more modern aesthetic. I prefer that exact rise with a bit wider leg. *Caveat* when wearing cowboy boots, the slimmer the pant leg, the thicker the denim should be to avoid printing the shaft. I have some new Chisos. I have skinny legs, and I'm not having any luck finding jeans that work with the Chiso's short shaft on me without the jeans falling into the shaft and causing that stupid printing issues where you can see the boot shaft outline through the jeans. I've tried all the different Levi's numbers. I'm not a Wrangler guy (I'm not cowboy enough), so not sure where to go from here. Like you in this video, the Chisos look silly on me with Levis.
I just got my first pair of western boots today. Went with Ariat heritage ropers. All of my jeans are Levi’s 501. I have quite slim legs and the shaft of my boots poke out through the pant legs...any tips?
For me the Levi's 541 Athletic taper or flex seems to work great with cowboy boots. Unfortunately I could only get the black jeans in that cut because they have discontinued my favorite dark brown color. Dickies also has some nice dark brown slim jeans that I also like to wear with cowboy boots. I have a body more like John Wayne when he was younger so pants with a bit more room is always good. Still those jeans look very good on you!
I prefer 501's because of the button fly. Think of it this way... If your zipper breaks it leaves you wide open; however, if you loose a button you still have more buttons to keep your horse in the barn. :-)
The only lower end 501's I wear is Shrink to fit raw. You should try those. But IMHO, Wrangler 47MWZ is way superior, especially the rigid ones. I'm big fan of vintage Blue Bell era Wranglers which I'm getting sometimes as a dead stock online.. Levi's is too "progressive" for my conservative taste ;)
Im more of a wrangler guy these days, because they’re cheaper than the Levi’s around here and hold up just as long. BUT, I have to say you’re wrong about button fly’s being slower to get off. I wore a button fly Jean for years. Just gotta rip them open, the buttons will all pop open no problem. Pull the outer layer straight out while holding the inner flap toward you. Now, they take longer to button back up, but getting them back on is usually a lower priority than getting them off ;)

I have been wearing 501s since the late 1960s and you just pull the two sides apart and whoosh the fly is open in a fraction of the time it takes to unzip. But it all evens out because it takes longer to button the fly than to zip up.
Wore 501 Shrink-to-fit until I was in my 30's. I thought I loved them until a friend had me try a pair of Wrangler 13MWZs. Never looked back. Down side to 501s: Only 1 belt loop in back that causes your belt. to get bent badly. Legs twist unless you put them on stretchers. Seems are on the wrong side - it you ride you will find the 501s start rubbing the inside of your knee and thigh raw. They are not high enough in the back which makes you sit on your wallet. Other than that the pros are they can look really good and they have a button fly.
As a Levi’s man myself I thought those looked great aside from the chisos and ropers as you thought. I dont wear the 501 but they looked good buddy. Especially on the yeehaw snips and bnv!
Slim guy here. Nothing fits the way 501s and tall R toes fit. They just add and subtract visual weight in all the right places on skinny dudes in a way I just don't get from any other denim.

I have worked in a lot of Aussie brand work boots over the year since 1999. Started with rossi and blundys but as construction and mining site increased safety work boots required laces to give ankle support unlike your generic slip on Aussie farmers rossi boots. Since around 2005 I've moved to lace up work boots tried some Oliver's but found the uncomfortable and jumped in to steel blues and never looked back I would have had over 15 pairs off steelblues the same model i stick to. Super comfortable sole ,flexible yet full foot support. They get a hard time I wear them for 14 hours on a work day electrician on a mine site.,hike in them,use them in the shed working on old cars , welding, offroading, camping ,gardening or just going to Bunnings (Australias favourite place on the weekends) all rounder great boot.
The 501 originals aren’t really the original, one will notice the “original fit” has four buttons on the fly the shrink to fit has five button and fits ones form better

Levi's fit my waist better than Wranglers but I do prefer the fit of the Wrangler around the boot. Oddly enough, I like my Banana Republic jeans with boots.
A lot of cheap production boots there, no offense. Do a review of a pair of custom high-end Texas made boots. Also, relative to gold a semi-custom pair of cow leather boots should cost a half ounce of gold, a fully custom pair a full ounce of gold, consistent for two hundred years.

I'm with you JC, whenever the jeans stack on top of the shaft it's a no go for me. That being said, I do like when the boots kinda ride high on the vamp. I think it shows off the boot .

I wear 32x32/34 with boots and I'm 5'10" also and theres no way I could wear a 30 length. on top of that I have a longer torso and shorter legs so I think you might to find some jeans with a higher rise
If you wear western boots . BOOT CUT JEANS ARE THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE RIGHT LOOK EVERY TIME. SURE WISH LEVI Would go back to the original stiff Jean again. The best one ever make hands down
What boot brands or specific boots do you recommend that have narrow or slim shafts? I have skinny legs and my current Durango Rebel Pro boots are way too wide for my legs and look terrible in slim straight jeans. Any help is greatly appreciated!
501s? Boots? #notacowboy. The inner seams on Levi's are the same basic thickness as the outer seam. This makes equestrian activities even more painful than they already are. Wranglers have a Flat seam design that makes riding a little more comfortable. Just have a preference for the way Wranglers fit over Boots. Advent of the phone led to a preference for dickies carpenter pants (same seams as Wranglers vs the thick seams of carhartt). Of course there are actual western people with a dedication to 501s and that is why it's still a free country. Do what you like.
Shrink to fit raw denim yall. I only ware these and wranglers. They will shrink an inch in all directions if you wash and dry them......The point is to not wash them often. I ware them with Lucasses 13 inch upper.
I found that the only ones that didn't hit the mark at the leg were the Ariat Ropers. Below the end of the boot they looked good. All the other boots that you tried looked fantastic. The taller boots did smooth out the look better as you said. But the toe shapes all worked with this pair of Jeans! Great video.
The last two pair of 501's I've bought are tapered way too much to wear with boots. I cut the inside seam of the most recent pair so they would come down low enough on the boot. The other pair's seams are too twisted to cut.
501's are great boot jeans. The look of a great jean is not only the fit over the boot but the whole look from top to bottom. IMHO, this is your jean with being a slim guy. Looks great all over which completes the look.
I have Wore Levi since the seventies they've got wider not narrower they were so narrow you could barely get your feet through them material was a lot thicker back then

Try the shrink-to-fit 501. Way better than sanfordized jeans.

I'm 5 foot 10 wear 38×30 can't ever find a 38×29 or by 28 length wish i could 30 length covers my whole boot almost
@@cainechancey30 it sounds like your pants arent sittinh high enough. like on your natural waist. you might want to try something with a higher rise. I wear 32x32/34 with boots and I'm 5'10" also and theres no way I could wear a 30 length. on top of that I have a longer torso and shorter legs so I think you might to find some jeans with a higher rise

If you wear western boots . BOOT CUT JEANS ARE THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE RIGHT LOOK EVERY TIME. SURE WISH LEVI Would go back to the original stiff Jean again. The best one ever make hands down

What boot brands or specific boots do you recommend that have narrow or slim shafts? I have skinny legs and my current Durango Rebel Pro boots are way too wide for my legs and look terrible in slim straight jeans. Any help is greatly appreciated!
501s? Boots? #notacowboy. The inner seams on Levi's are the same basic thickness as the outer seam. This makes equestrian activities even more painful than they already are. Wranglers have a Flat seam design that makes riding a little more comfortable. Just have a preference for the way Wranglers fit over Boots. Advent of the phone led to a preference for dickies carpenter pants (same seams as Wranglers vs the thick seams of carhartt). Of course there are actual western people with a dedication to 501s and that is why it's still a free country. Do what you like.
Levi’s 511 is a great fit for any type of shoe or boot. Very versatile!

Only issue with 511 is if they're actually used on a ranch or work they'll rip and tear quickly...the material is thin.
Shrink to fit raw denim yall. I only ware these and wranglers. They will shrink an inch in all directions if you wash and dry them......The point is to not wash them often. I ware them with Lucasses 13 inch upper.
I found that the only ones that didn't hit the mark at the leg were the Ariat Ropers. Below the end of the boot they looked good. All the other boots that you tried looked fantastic. The taller boots did smooth out the look better as you said. But the toe shapes all worked with this pair of Jeans! Great video.

The last two pair of 501's I've bought are tapered way too much to wear with boots. I cut the inside seam of the most recent pair so they would come down low enough on the boot. The other pair's seams are too twisted to cut.
501's are great boot jeans. The look of a great jean is not only the fit over the boot but the whole look from top to bottom. IMHO, this is your jean with being a slim guy. Looks great all over which completes the look.
What type of jeans/cut do you think Luke Bryan wears? I like his jean style and how they fit. I know it’s not a bootcut.
Fun fact, for any Justified fans out there, 501's are the only jean Raylan wears.
I have Wore Levi since the seventies they've got wider not narrower they were so narrow you could barely get your feet through them material was a lot thicker back then

The 501’s use to be great for boots they were baggy and what not now there just slim and tight
501’s are great looking on a man if sized right. Not too baggy not too tight. Just enough ball room. They become even more comfortable year number 2 All around my favorite jean for boots
