      Yes! This is the guide I needed. Could I ask you height and weight? I'm thin like you 5'8" and 170 lbs I think.
      I own 504 505 514 541.
      (Women like undoing the button fly fyi. Besides that, they're a pain.)
      I think I'm similar in body shape to you. Today I'm wearing 541. My flaccid is larger than average and even in these 541 it's showy no matter which way I aim it.
      I haven't been shopping for jeans since before covid and these 541 have been my comfortable go to. I love how they look, fit, and feel. I just need a bit more room in the front particularly . I wonder if the 550 569 or 569 would fix that without being too baggy overall.
      Maybe the rise measurement is what I should be looking at. Idk??
      Or perhaps cotton vs elastin. Maybe the elastin is actually showing more of me since it's hugging me more rather than draping.
      Thoughts? Advice? Tips?
      Thanks sir.

    I came across a pair of the 550s while thrifting this weekend, and they are my new favorite pair of denims I own. I love that they have the extra thigh space without looking too baggy or sloppy. Also, the longer rise with an oversized tee tucked in creates a pleasing aesthetic vibe. Your analysis of all the fits is perfect. I also appreciate you showing the back view of the jeans because that's often where jeans hug the most for me, and sizing up in the wrong fit often looks bad/saggy. This review is top-tier!

    After two decades of buying jeans with a little stretch and low rises with zippers, I have returned to the 501 button fly. Yes, it is a heavier denim, but they wear longer, hold a crease, and subesequently look better with a suit jacket and brown wingtips. This video was excellent and concise.

    Thanks so much for such a comprehensive review on these Levi's styles! Great job! At this point in my life,
    I like a 550 relaxed or a 505; Not too baggy, not too tight! I'd like to try a 559. As a kid, 501's were the only Levi's style available at the time. I'm 70 now! 👍

    Great review. I just purchased my 514 on your recommendation and very happy with that. Same experience with 501, just too tight at thighs and too rigid material. 514 just little bit wider in thighs but the slightly flex material adds a lot to its comfort.

    I’m a 514. Perfect fit for me and I prefer the lower rise.
    Interestingly I can wear 501 if I size up, or if I choose a different color. Yes, certain Jean colors come in thinner denim. I like the button fly but not at the cost of a higher rise, so 514 ftw

    One thing you should disclose in this review is whether you bought the 100% cotton styles or the Stretch style. This makes a hug difference on the waist and thigh. 505 for me have always been baggier at the thigh than the 501. 514 is a little more snug but the waist had to be 1 size bigger than 501. Awesome review, probably the best comparison between styles.

    • @MensFashionFiles
      @MensFashionFiles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can confirm that the 501, 550 and 559 are made from 100% cotton. The 505 and 514 both have 1% spandex. Thanks for watching and glad to hear my comparison helped you out 👌

    501s are my favorites. Maybe I'm biased here , because I have been wearing this since 1959 and that was the only style for along time. A couple of times I had zippers replace the button fly but overall that is the best style for me.

    My dad had a clothing shop back in the 1960's. A pair of 501 cost around $3.95 back around 1964. Back then, those jeans were very stiff and REALLY shrunk to fit. Shrinkage control was an issue, so you had to buy them a size bigger around the waist and 2 size longer. Throughout the 1970's & mid 1980's the jeans became softer and softer. Personally, I wear Wrangler 13mwz Cowboy Cuts & boots.

    • @MensFashionFiles
      @MensFashionFiles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      wow that's very interesting. Levi's do still have their 501 shrink to fit model but it's probably not as intense as it was back in the 60s. Wrangler sounds like a great brand for denim. I've heard a lot of great thing about it from other commenters.

    Personally, I get 505s and I've only rarely had the fit problems you mentioned. I almost never get any uncomfortable hugging, save one pair that's recently become way too tight and that's likely due to a bit of weight gain. I think I just wear them differently than some.

    1:56 i can help out here - theres some people like me who really really really hate even slightly stretchy jeans and find nothing more comfortable than a really stiff and rigid jeans which is a bit on the thicker side. The only manufacturer left who still makes those is essentially Levis and the 501 is one of the best for that...Id like my jeans even more stiff and less soft if i could but beggars cant be chosers. The 514 is technically a much better fitting 501 and sits a bit lower (or higher if its the 516) but unfortunately both seem to have a tinnyy bit of stretch. Personally Id go nuts for a 501 with a lower rise.

    The argument for button flies is that they are more durable, and will just generaly last longer. Although always switching from a zipper to a button fly when swtitching pants is noticable, I really like the feel of the buttons. As someone who likes their jeans tight fitting in the upper area I'm always worried that the zipper is gonna break when I'm breaking in a pair of jeans. Informative video all around, thanks!

    • @MensFashionFiles

    A great video I'm so pleased. I'm a gal with no booty or hips and run shirt in the waist so I've always bought Levi's 501s button fly. Mine are so distressed that it's time to repurchase. The thing about Levi jeans is you can get a good 10 years I would have them no problem. I'm really excited to see the changes that have been made over the last years. Can't imagine switching from my old favourites but it's time for a change. Something else that I always thought was ridiculous is in women's Levis they don't come in a leg choice. BTW some of us older Folk prefer the button fly because it simply was different. And had the illusion a vintage look I believe the original Levi's where button fly. Great video thank you.

      @MensFashionFiles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! 10 years is a very long time. Also, I was not aware that women's Levi's didn't come in a leg choice. The things about the classic 501 is that after a couple washes and years of wearing the fit will change. They will fit exactly after your body after a while.

      501s were always purchased one size larger. This allowed for the fit to change for your body.

      @@lb4082 thats for the models "STF" shrink-to-fit, they adapt to your body, after you soak them. In the 501' Original, they keep the cut and just ajust your curvatures. Not the body. Greetings from Portugal!

    I'm short with athletic build. I usually wear 502, but I'm staring to love the 501. Very similar fit at the hips and thigh. The 501 is also more rigid, and the leg opening for the 501 works better with boots. Anything with a tighter fit will look like jeggings and looser fit will make me look shapeless.

    Just ordered a pair of the 514’s in the cali black coloring. Excited to see how they fit me- as i wanted a pair that would look good in my work uniform, but also go with my skater aesthetic outfits.
    Im 5’9 at around 225lbs (fluctuates between 220 and 228 any given week lol) so ordered 40x30 (would have preferred 40x29, but don’t have that option on amazon)
    I normally wear 38x29 in most jeans, but went up to be safe

    The 514's are a favorite of my husbands. He doesnt care for the stretch material that is seeming to dominate the Levi brand. And got some off ebay that said they were not stretch, but were. What do you like stretch or non stretch.

    • @MensFashionFiles
      @MensFashionFiles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      After I bought my first pair of stretch jeans, I never wanted to wear another non stretch again haha. Honestly though, stretch fit is so much more comfortable than non stretch. So much that it doesn't feel like you're wearing jeans.

    It’s caused by how the rear rise is cut compared to all of the other Levi’s jeans making the 501 and 505’s tight in the bus and crotch . The original 501 and 505’ had a rise over 12” .

    • @MensFashionFiles

    I use to wear 505s all the time the fit was perfect and they fit over my work boots perfectly. Nice and snug. But the last 3 or 4 pairs I’ve bought are wicked loose around my boots and I feel like they could flap in the wind. Does anyone know what changed in that? I loved the snug fit style wise around my boots. Does anyone know if the changed anything? My size hasn’t changed at all.

    The original 501's break in slow, but will be the best in the long run. The button flies break in as well. Once they do, you can button them with one hand. By the way, broken in button fly is much more comfortable than a zipper.
    Just my opinion for what it's worth

    Hey excellent video on Levi jeans, man! 👖
    You are right on the 505! They are a bit uncomfortable around the thighs and hips area kinda tight.
    Overall, personally I think relaxed straight fit jeans are great. They are very comfortable so that one could easily grab their phone/wallet/keys/etc that are in the jean’s pockets. Another good pro for these kinds of jeans is that when crouching down real low with them, boxers or behind aren’t really exposed and showing lol. Mad embarrassing when it happens in public. And they are called relaxed fit so it makes a lot of sense why they are comfortable, I suppose. And lastly I think relaxed jeans are pretty cool, imo. They have that 00’s style vibe look to them! A lot of high school students and young actors wore them back in those days. They were popular and I think they still are! These looser fit jeans have become trendy lately I’ve heard. That’s what’s up 😁Seems like they have a variety of washes available too, which is awesome so that one could decide to switch things up. I think they are also masculine as well, just in my opinion of course. Loose relaxed fit jeans could definitely look good on gals too. Can’t blame them sometimes they want something that’s more comfortable.. skinny jeans I could only imagine how difficult it is to get stuff in pockets sometimes. Maybe just gotta get stretch jeans to fix that huh. Just gotta find the right size fit and having the confidence. So I’d say they are great for guys out there that have a naturally muscular, bigger body type in my opinion. Slim fit obviously ideal for the more slimmer folks out there. Just depends on genetics.
    Anyway lol I’m starting to write a essay here lmao. I’m gonna leave it at that. Very informative video! It helped a lot dude.

    • @MensFashionFiles
      @MensFashionFiles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Appreciate your super thorough comment haha. Yes, you make a lot of great points. Relaxed fits are better for comfort and getting things out of your pockets so it's good that its making a comeback. The baggy and 90s-00s look is making a comeback with the Gen Z crowd. in the end of the day Relax > Skinny 💪
