    Just when I thought I knew everything about this game, I see a video about a status affect that nobody in game mentions that you can only even have a chance of getting from an item that nobody would ever have any use for beyond filling out the recipe book. What a time to be alive.

      Allergies, also known as allergic diseases, refer to a number of conditions caused by the hypersensitivity of the immune system to typically harmless substances in the environment. These diseases include hay fever, food allergies, atopic dermatitis, allergic asthma, and anaphylaxis. Symptoms may include red eyes, an itchy rash, sneezing, coughing, a runny nose, shortness of breath, or swelling. Note: food intolerances and food poisoning are separate conditions.

    This status is so rare that the blatant mistranslation for its effect was never caught. "Status hasn't changed!" really does not explain what it does, "Status can't change!" or something would work better. The actual testers and proofreaders must have never seen this in-game.

  • @Miccat87

    I've always felt that statuses like these are pretty underused in TTYD. I mean, many players hardly even know about allergic since it so rarely comes up. Heck, I don't think I knew much about it until fairly recently. Also, as you said, the fact that Space Food won't always inflict allergic sucks. If it did always do it, it would have at least a bit of strategic potential, as it is definitely a unique status effect. The fast and slow statuses are also a bit underused in my opinion, but at least not to quite the same extent as allergic.

    • @Driggsdamonstah
      @Driggsdamonstah ปีที่แล้ว +21

    • @Miccat87
      @Miccat87 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      @@metamayto Yep. Fast allows the character inflicted with it to act twice per turn, while Slow makes it so they can only act every other turn. They are both used a little bit. Fast is used during Macho Grubba's fight, which is how he is able to both buff himself and attack in a single turn. Also, during the second Shadow Sirens fight in the Palace of Shadow, Beldam can inflict slowness on Mario or his partner, or inflict fastness on one of her allies. Like allergic, these aren't used very much, but I would say they are at least a bit less obscure. I randomly read a comment on another older video about how Allergic's in-game message is mistranslated (it should say something like "Status can't change!"), and how you can't get any new statuses once it appears.
    The Space Food infliction I only recently learned since one of my friends got back into TTYD from a streamer he watches VODs of.
    The status was also mentioned in the Nintendo Power strategy guide but I don't recall it being expanded on too much so I'd have to dig that out.
    In experience, it only appeared when I'd replay the Shadow Queen fight years ago with a save file immediately before her that I'd reset without saving on to keep available, and I didn't think much of it at the time that it was nowhere else in the game.

    TTYD has so many odd little statuses and badges and little interactions that are just way too weak to make use of. And it's not even just because standard peril strats are so strong, even in a slower, more balanced game a lot of them likely wouldn't find much of a use since there's so few ways to actually induce the mechanic(s) in question. Imagine if there was a badge that induced this? Could be kind of neat, like a knock-off Feeling Fine for less BP or something.

    Pretty much repeating what a few other comments have said, but the potentiality of Space Food/Allergy being an early, quasi-Feeling Fine item that act as a neutral state, as well as having the added benefit of nullifying elemental stage hazards, is super cool. It just sucks that not only do you get it a remote fashion via completing two different Trouble Center tasks after CH4, it has that 50% chance which pretty much kills any momentum it could've had. At that point, you really are just better off holding off a bit longer for FF, as well as use other items and abilities to mitigate the hazards.

    I disagree on your opinion of Space Food… Kind of.
    The idea of a status effect shield that protects you from things like poison and sleep at the cost of neutralizing buffs sounds awesome!
    The problems I have are that: A) Space Food is impossible to get until after you get Zess T. the cookbook and get Dried Bouquets from what’s his name in Petalburg. And B) The game goes into little detail about the allergic status even when it actually pops up.
    If people understood it more, and we got access to Space Food around Chapter 4, it would have some enemy encounters a lot easier. Namely Craziee Dayzees and all the ice enemies on the path to Fahr Outpost. Those stun locking bastards can eat a dick.
