I'm 61 and bought the 2023 RC390 GP edition. I been riding for 40 years and I love the KTM. Brings back memories of my TZR 250, RZ350 and the likes. Sure it makes a great beginners bike but don't over look it if your more experienced rider. This KTM puts more smiles on my face per mile then just about anything. Have fun and ride sale all.

Hey Drummer, I'm 55, been riding since I was 16, own many bikes, rode the dirt, at 20, I owned a 1985 Yamaha RZ500R (luckily and skillfully didn't die on it)... I now own a prepped but and almost street legal 2018 RC390 and by the Gods, YOU ARE Sooooooooooooooo RIGHT !!!!!

I have riding for 47 years. Currently on my 3rd R1. I just got a ‘23 RC390 and got it broken in. It is a ton of fun on back roads. I feel like it could beat the average sportbike and rider as long as the speeds are generally below 80-85. Beyond that power definitely becomes more of an issue.
When my wife had her R3, I rode it plenty. I definitely prefer the KTM for every aspect other than anticipated durability and longevity. Better suspension, better braking feel, better ergonomics, livelier engine, looks less cheap, and way better dash.

It's not a matter of decision for me! I've owned the KTM RC 390 for a year now. I love her! But I'm also a big Kawasaki fan. That means I'll buy the small 4-cylinder as soon as it's available in Germany! 😂

As I was riding last night and thinking about the ZX4RR I was thinking exactly this... Kawasaki didn't hit the spot with this one. The RC390 is much more appealing given the 3000 bucks that separates them. The flash results weren't anything amazing tbh.

@williamdavis4809 Yes it will, no doubt about it. As I said even with the tune I don't see a single reason why would anybody pick the ZX over the 390. Tbh the ZX6 has been updated a few days back and it makes the ZX4 look pointless...

Most viewers here will have by now seen FortNine's non-review review of the ZX4RR ... RF9 ran a simple calculation and estimates it's capable of 92HP. (The Euro computer can't allow it to make that kind of power and still be emissions legal.)

Over 30 years later, Kawasaki bring a 400cc, four pot with the same hp.
    Progress? Idk about that.

As an owner of a Ninja 400, I gotta say that, unless you're going to use it as a track toy, the ZX4RR is pointless: too heavy, waaaay too expensive, you have to do a lot of things to get it really ready (perhaps just as much as a Ninja400?) and specially, if you are a beginner rider or you want to use it as a jack-of-all-trades bike, a Ninja 400 fills the gap way better.
All that being said, if you have the money and you have a bit of experience with bikes and want the ZX4RR you wouldn't regret it as long as you acknowledge that there are way cheaper options out there, but my recommendation would still be the Ninja 400 (or the KTM RC390, which is quite cool and sporty, too).

Although I have never driven a zx-4RR, I believe that cycling in the city with a ninja 400 is better because it can achieve better torque performance at low revs

If the 390 was increased to 450 it would make about 10 more hp and 5 more ft lbs of torque… probably only cost 800 more bucks and probably weigh only 10-15 more lbs. could we only imagine…. While the zx-4 should be about 2 grand less to make more sense

    • @SwoosheD_

KTM is actually planning to replace this 373cc thumper to a more powerful and reliable 450cc 270 degree crank twin cylinder engine that'll put out 55 horsepower.
Look up the CFMoto 450SS, it uses the same exact engine.

  • @user-fs1xe1vc8o

ride my second 390 (and before a 125 before) they ride godlike. not unter 5k rpm thats where they are pretty bad and shaky cruising is pretty annoing. :D ktm rc quality is super bad. the front sprockets wobble from factory.. the engines need oil after 5k km (1k of them just super cruisy riding because they were brand new) its about 250ml/1000km. the oil filters are full of iron filings. i change the oil all 4000km because of that. you need water and a towel to wipe off the paint of the rims. the stock chain is dead after 10000km. just poor quality in every part. but it rides so good that i decided to buy it again, give it a chance again, and having fun with it again.. but i really dont recommend it for somebody who dont knows how to maintain, repair it, have no second bike, or a lot of money.. because this thing is a moneypit. I hate to love it. zx4rr is not availeble in germany :/ but i think it has japanese quality so.. what could happen? my gsxr and my dads bikes just need oil changes and fuel :D absolutly no problems with them.

I'm just playing. Everybody knows kawasaki has great bikes, but i can't get over how bad the pull and torque is for 10 grand. If you get it flashed, everything else is fine for ten grand. I think the zx4 is better than the rc390... I just don't think it's literally twice as good. The passing power is atrocious for the price. I'd rather have an r7, rs660 or zx6 if that was my budget. It's worth saving up a couple more grand for that much more bike.
