As someone coming into Christianity from a loving supportive church that welcomes everyone to ask questions no matter how difficult they can be. It hurts to see churches preaching not only against people specifically but using scripture to justify limiting a woman's ability to speak in church's. The most driven and wonderful woman I know is one of god and has helped our community so much, and she got their not only by asking questions but by teaching. My world and many others would be much darker if she and others were not given a chance. The message he speaks is hurtful and I hope that he learns better.

The Bible is one of the most notorious religious scriptures for having people between the 9th and 18th centuries knowingly write incorrect translations to push their own beliefs. 2) Like any other religious scripture, such as the Buddhist canon, Muslim Quran, etc. etc., there are multiple ways to interpret something. Every single religion in existence has multiple offshoots, Buddhism for example and three primary sects. It is a collection of stories and somewhat accurate historical events written and brought together in a book form by a group of people who lived in that era. Another message which is famous in the bible is basically God telling mankind to take the sea, sky, and land and to make it our own. Also if something is useless because we are supposed to interpret it in our own ways then the US constitution would also be useless. The constitution was written vaguely because the founding fathers understood as time passes society and people as a whole change. The bible also sets basic guidelines for people who believe to follow and practice. And without the bible as basic foundation for Christianity as a whole it may never have grown just like all religions with a key holy text. I may not be religious but I do feel it is important to read any holy text just to get a basic understanding of a religion it's practices and why someone would choose to believe.
I’ve come to the conclusion that verses are both the best and worst thing to have happened to the Bible. Their awesome when you need to cite a part of it, but it’s really allowed pastors to willy-nilly around it, taking lines extremely out of context without giving church attendees the opportunity to read themselves. (The problem being better illustrated with Shaun, or televangelists downplaying the issues of mental health.)

A Church teaching should not be criticized by how "progressive" or "conservative" it is, it ought to be criticized by how True to the Book it rings. Truthfully, you'll see that in most if not all cases what rings true to the Book would be considered a "conservative" point of view, but this ought not to be something to be ashamed for, remember that progressivism is against the Church.
The verse that pastor is quoting is, as always, taken way out of context. That passage comes from a letter Paul wrote, to a specific church, about a specific issue in that church. And we don't have all of his letters. We don't know what prompted that letter. So when I see pastors twisting the Word to fit their message it makes me wonder if they read the Bible at all.

Steven Anderson, pastor of that church, has said “if I had a button that would kill all homosexuals if pressed, I would press it until my finger fell off”. It is not a Christian way to wish death unto others, especially those who have done no wrong. He takes everything in the Bible as fact as if god wrote it himself. A key part of any religion is just be a good person, be good to those around you, don’t fill the world with hate.

As a Christian I can see where you’re coming from and I totally agree with your message on loving those around u. I just felt it’d be a disservice to not add an insight. Christians actually believe that all scripture is “god breathed” meaning god wrote it through elected people such as the Old Testament prophets or the New Testament disciples so it’s not like we believe that these texts were just thrown together by some random people. God nor the people he elected to write have ever encouraged anyone to be hateful. God can hate sin and people can see sin in their life or someone else’s life and hate it bc it’s hurting them or those around them but we’re never called to hate the person whose struggling w sin as it’s something we all have.

There’s one instance where there’s a church in Corinth that was overtaken by a cult of Aphrodite worshippers who all happened to be women, so the message was wrote to them that in that specific church the women weren’t aloud to speak or teach. There are plenty of instances of women teaching in the Bible, (I.e Marry Magdalene, Deborah, Ruth, Esther, Priscilla, I could go on and on.) so what modern churches and churches who allow women to teach, such as mine, believe is that the churches like the ones seen in this video don’t look deep enough in the scripture to find the context, thus leading to they’re skewed beliefs. Sorry about the novel lol.

You’ll be happy to know the videos here don’t represent “most churches.” And judging by the Like/Dislike ratio of each video featured, I highly doubt any self-proclaimed Christian even agrees with these false prophets outside of the people actually participating in the sermons. Don't know if anyone really cares, but here goes: That scripture that the guy at the end quotes, 1 Timothy 2:12, does start in a similar manner, but the context of the immediately preceding verse, 2:11, is meant to suggest that the woman's role in church is to first listen and be open-minded to what she is hearing. Verse 2:12 does say (from the apostle Paul), "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence"; but this is with the context of first listening and considering EVERYBODY before acting. Especially since the next verses directly references Eve being deceived by the serpent and then convincing Adam to eat the forbidden fruit (in that she didn't really consider God or Adam's word). Which is kind of curious, since you may notice that the preacher doesn't say ANYTHING like that and goes off on what I can only assume is a tangent about not speaking at all in the church and only asking their husbands about questions they may have. Furthermore, on the whole "woman in silence" bit, is also meant in context of the woman's actions (not necessarily her words) influencing the man when the man fails to act in a goodly manner (which is referenced later in 1 Peter 3:1-7). TL;DR The fuck kinda Bible was this guy reading?

As someone coming into Christianity from a loving supportive church that welcomes everyone to ask questions no matter how difficult they can be. It hurts to see churches preaching not only against people specifically but using scripture to justify limiting a woman's ability to speak in church's. The most driven and wonderful woman I know is one of god and has helped our community so much, and she got their not only by asking questions but by teaching. My world and many others would be much darker if she and others were not given a chance. The message he speaks is hurtful and I hope that he learns better.

1) There are multiple different translations of the Bible, and some people are very selective of certain ones. The Bible is one of the most notorious religious scriptures for having people between the 9th and 18th centuries knowingly write incorrect translations to push their own beliefs.
2) Like any other religious scripture, such as the Buddhist canon, Muslim Quran, etc. etc., there are multiple ways to interpret something. Every single religion in existence has multiple offshoots, Buddhism for example and three primary sects. Christianity, primarily due to differences in translations and interpretations, literally has dozens of different schools of thoughts, from Catholic to Angelican, to Lutheran and Presbyterian, to Quaker and so on and so forth.
3) I actually looked up the part he was talking about, and at least in the New King James and New English variants it most definitely does not fucking say that lol.

It is a collection of stories and somewhat accurate historical events written and brought together in a book form by a group of people who lived in that era. Another message which is famous in the bible is basically God telling mankind to take the sea, sky, and land and to make it our own. Also if something is useless because we are supposed to interpret it in our own ways then the US constitution would also be useless. The constitution was written vaguely because the founding fathers understood as time passes society and people as a whole change. The bible also sets basic guidelines for people who believe to follow and practice. And without the bible as basic foundation for Christianity as a whole it may never have grown just like all religions with a key holy text. I may not be religious but I do feel it is important to read any holy text just to get a basic understanding of a religion it's practices and why someone would choose to believe.

The verse that pastor is quoting is, as always, taken way out of context. That passage comes from a letter Paul wrote, to a specific church, about a specific issue in that church. And we don't have all of his letters. We don't know what prompted that letter. So when I see pastors twisting the Word to fit their message it makes me wonder if they read the Bible at all.

Steven Anderson, pastor of that church, has said “if I had a button that would kill all homosexuals if pressed, I would press it until my finger fell off”. It is not a Christian way to wish death unto others, especially those who have done no wrong. He takes everything in the Bible as fact as if god wrote it himself. A key part of any religion is just be a good person, be good to those around you, don’t fill the world with hate.
I’m agnostic but I have followed the Catholic faith before and isn’t the whole point in Christianity/Catholicism to love thy neighbor? These people just.. disappoint me beyond belief. Also you bring up a really good point; God didn’t write the Bible itself and wasn’t it originally written in another language? Obviously there will be translation errors.. It astounds me how something so simple as “man shall not lay with boy”, denouncing pedophilia, gets lost in translation and gets accidentally written as “man shall not lay with man”. As a Christian I can see where you’re coming from and I totally agree with your message on loving those around u. I just felt it’d be a disservice to not add an insight. Christians actually believe that all scripture is “god breathed” meaning god wrote it through elected people such as the Old Testament prophets or the New Testament disciples so it’s not like we believe that these texts were just thrown together by some random people. God nor the people he elected to write have ever encouraged anyone to be hateful. God can hate sin and people can see sin in their life or someone else’s life and hate it bc it’s hurting them or those around them but we’re never called to hate the person whose struggling w sin as it’s something we all have.

It’s not as much a rage as it is a righteous anger like when u see an injustice happen w no consequences. Also I don’t deny that the Bible changes and has changed but to call it far from the original is just untrue. The Bible’s one of the most scrutinized texts and yet manuscripts from almost all different versions and different times are astoundingly similar. Not many other books have the same level of underlying documentary support. I’d encourage anyone to look into it’s integrity.

There’s one instance where there’s a church in Corinth that was overtaken by a cult of Aphrodite worshippers who all happened to be women, so the message was wrote to them that in that specific church the women weren’t aloud to speak or teach. There are plenty of instances of women teaching in the Bible, (I.e Marry Magdalene, Deborah, Ruth, Esther, Priscilla, I could go on and on.) so what modern churches and churches who allow women to teach, such as mine, believe is that the churches like the ones seen in this video don’t look deep enough in the scripture to find the context, thus leading to they’re skewed beliefs. Sorry about the novel lol.

You’ll be happy to know the videos here don’t represent “most churches.” And judging by the Like/Dislike ratio of each video featured, I highly doubt any self-proclaimed Christian even agrees with these false prophets outside of the people actually participating in the sermons. It just doesn’t make any sense to tell people they need to Evangelize about the Gospels if they want to go to Heaven, yet also tell them they can’t Evangelize to anyone that doesn’t already believe.

Don't know if anyone really cares, but here goes:
That scripture that the guy at the end quotes, 1 Timothy 2:12, does start in a similar manner, but the context of the immediately preceding verse, 2:11, is meant to suggest that the woman's role in church is to first listen and be open-minded to what she is hearing.
Verse 2:12 does say (from the apostle Paul), "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence"; but this is with the context of first listening and considering EVERYBODY before acting. Especially since the next verses directly references Eve being deceived by the serpent and then convincing Adam to eat the forbidden fruit (in that she didn't really consider God or Adam's word). Which is kind of curious, since you may notice that the preacher doesn't say ANYTHING like that and goes off on what I can only assume is a tangent about not speaking at all in the church and only asking their husbands about questions they may have.
Furthermore, on the whole "woman in silence" bit, is also meant in context of the woman's actions (not necessarily her words) influencing the man when the man fails to act in a goodly manner (which is referenced later in 1 Peter 3:1-7).
