      Right, there were 2 times when I was almost abducted as a child, and I was literally wearing just regular kids' clothes because I was 7-years-old while a guy watched me in his car in front of our house while I played outside. The next time I was almost taken was while I was in my house as a 9-year-old playing in the living room when a guy tried to enter through a window. The only reason I survived was because both times my dad happened to be there to stop it. In fact, most of the times I've been targeted was during childhood minding my own business and just being a kid. Rapist don't need to see you in revealing clothes because they know what's underneath and have their own imaginations. They are on a mission and don't care what you happen to be wearing that day.

    5:15 "What chapter of the bible was this in?"
    Nowhere, but this is probably the passage where that disgusting attitude comes from:
    Deuteronomy 22:28-29
    "If a man meets a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her, and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives."
    The man's only punishment for raping a single woman is to fork over 50 bucks. And then marry her.
    The woman must, by law, marry the man who assaulted her. It's insane.
    There are other passages in the bible that condemn rape, but for some reason, they left this in.

    • @godsdj7316
      @godsdj7316 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

      The actual translation for the Deuteronomy verses quoted is "if a man meets a virgin who isn't betrothed and seizes her for sex and they're discovered, he has to pay her dad a fine and has to marry her."
      That doesn't just cover rape. But regardless, that is not the full story.
      Read Exodus 22:16-17.
      "If a man seduces a virgin who is not pledged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride-price. She will be his wife..." "...Except if her father refuses the marriage, the man must still pay the dowry."
      Ask yourself: what kind of dad would marry his daughter off to a rapist? Not a good one. If someone runs off with a man's daughter and they have consensual sex outside of marriage, maybe they're a good match for each other. But a rapist? No.
      The man's punishment for rape is that he has to pay a fine and then he can end up having no wife out of it because he's been a terrible human being. That's also the penalty if an Israelite took a woman out for a ride and then they pre-marital sex, except the latter was more likely to result in "oh well they are a good match for each other" and an actual wedding.
      Traditional Hebrew and Israelite marriages also involved asking the woman's consent for marriage. This is referenced with Rebecca here: Genesis 24:57-59
      There are no Bible verses condoning rape. Nowhere in the Bible does God say "this is good, do it". Rape is also unloving and evil, it is violent and a clear sign of a lack of empathy and self control, both being things the Bible says humans need to have. That is a message that most modern Christians are entirely lacking.
      The Bible has actual context to it.

    • @KNI
      @KNI 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    • @joshmaynard2657
      @joshmaynard2657 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      @@godsdj7316 Having the full context makes it worse, not better.
      Deuteronomy 22 equates unmarried consensual sex with rape (in terms of recompense to be paid).
      The Hebrew word for "seize" can apply to either one. Doesn't matter which.
      No focus is given to the woman's consent or wellbeing; only whether or not she "belongs" to a man when you touch her.
      Is she taken? You'll be stoned to death.
      Is she single? Pay a fine.
      Was it assault? Whatever, same difference, just pay the fine.
      Exodus 22 does the same. That chapter details how to repay a man after _losing his ox in 4 separate ways_ but couldn't be bothered to draw a legal distinction between unmarried consensual sex and rape. The punishment doesn't increase to reflect the crime, and marriage is still mandated.
      But Exodus adds the clause where the father can veto the marriage. Problem solved, right? ...Not really.
      Religious dogma (and the fear of a deity's wrath) can drive people to do some pretty heinous things to their children.
      e.g. The Binding of Isaac (Genesis 22), The Sacrifice of Jepthah's Daughter (Judges 11), and several commands to beat your kids (Proverbs 13:24 and 22:15).
      If physical abuse and ritualistic child sacrifice can be deemed "virtuous", marrying your daughter off to her sexual abuser may have its defenders.
      More importantly though, consider the social landscape that the father is in. His daughter no longer being a virgin is considered a _massive_ problem.
      The abuser isn't being fined for rape; _it's for taking her virginity._ It's for "violating" her, and the effect that will have on her life.
      What other man will want to marry her now that she's been "soiled"? Who will provide for her when her father grows old?
      Surely, the father would want to see his daughter married so she'll be taken care of after he passes. Suddenly, marrying his daughter off to her rapist starts to sound like the only option.
      Rebekah didn't _have_ that problem. She was a virgin. It says so in Genesis 24:15-16 (a few paragraphs before the verses you posted without that context). Genesis celebrates her consent to marry Isaac _only_ because her freedom of choice hadn't yet been taken from her by the stripping of her virginity.
      But even setting ALL of that aside, are there _really_ "no bible verses condoning rape"?
      ...I'm afraid not.
      Numbers 31:17-18.
      *"Kill all the boys and all the women who have had sex with a man. Only the young virgins may live; keep them for yourselves."*
      This is the command Moses gives to the Israelites after conquering Midian.
      I don't imagine a young Midianite girl who's entire family had just been slaughtered - likely, _right_ in front of her - would be feeling very keen to marry one of the men responsible.
      But the girls' consent isn't of Moses' concern, _and he speaks directly for God._ (Exodus 4:11-12: "The Lord said to him, "Who made man's mouth?... Is it not I? Now go! I will be with you when you speak. I will give you the words to say."")
      *God not only condones, but outright commands, mass war rape.*
      And this is after he exploits the _painfully obvious loophole_ in Exodus by making sure all the virgins' fathers are slaughtered before they have a chance to object to the marriages. There really is no further context to salvage that.
      Justifying violence like this isn't a "modern Christian" thing. This rot has been here since before the church was founded.
      As I said, there _are_ passages in the bible condemning immoral actions. But there are also verses actively _condoning_ them, and to say otherwise is either ignorant or dishonest.
      In this case, the Midianite women were to be punished for tempting Israelite men... so they were all slaughtered; except for the virgins, who were counted among the livestock, and kept as breeding slaves for their oppressors.
      ...That's a _bit_ of an overreaction. But then again, *_maybe they were wearing shorts._*
