      Yup. Disable touchscreen and just manhandle the thing, read on your back. Whatever. Oh, look - now that contour on the back starts to make sense, lol. It's really sad how many videos I've seen of people reviewing the Oasis holding it carefully like a paperwhite.

      Disable touchscreen on Oasis, and you WILL see. Every single person I've ever demoed this too has had the same reaction. "Oh! I had no idea."
      They really should have put a physical "disable touchscreen" button next to the power button.

      Same, I have the older 9th gen Oasis with 32gb, and a very old Paperwhite.
      I’ve just got the new paperwhite, I view the paperwhite as more everyday/travel type e-reader, the Oasis never leaves the house.
      I’ll probs sell the old paperwhite or give it away.
      I’ve not upgraded the Oasis as annoyed they got rid of the magnetic back (plus it’s not cheap)
      Picked paperwhite over signature due.
      1. Wireless charging. Seriously… on a kindle
      2. If I need more space, I’ve got the Oasis, plus found the only way to fill a kindle is if you put Audible on there.
      3. Automatic brightness, I’ve used that on Oasis and I find myself manually adjusting it anyway
      Now, no adds has me thinking though, but I’ll just have to live with it for now

      Warm light is nice. I just got mine today and messed with it a little bit. Unless you really like the page turn buttons I'd consider getting the new paperwhite if you want warm light or wait for who knows how long and see if they do an oasis 4. Another TH-cam guy has used the oasis 3 for a year and got the new paperwhite and said it's his new go to kindle and said the oasis is pretty pointless now

    • @vernabailey3671
      @vernabailey3671 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually have the same dilemma. I think I’m going to get it though. Trade in my Oasis. And then next year if they come out with another Oasis, I’ll probably get it then. But USB C and warm light makes me think I want this now. And what if they don’t upgrade Oasis. Yeah, I’m torn.

    • @joshuaewalker
      @joshuaewalker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're already an Oasis user then the smartest thing to do would be to WAIT. The Oasis is due for an upgrade (the Oasis 4?). Maybe they'll call it something else. But, them you'll be able to make a real decision about your upgrade options.
      If you get the new Paperwhite now and then the new Oasis is released in a few months with a bunch of upgrades you might regret it. I'm half-regretting it right now because I jumped on the Oasis 3 deal during Amazon Prime Day. For probably only a little more than what I spent the new Oasis will have USB-C, a bigger battery, be faster and more responsive with new features, heck it might even be Amazon's first color e-ink device.

    • @vernabailey3671
      @vernabailey3671 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joshuaewalker I got the first Oasis like a month before they released the 2nd one with a bigger screen. Then they came out with warm lighting, and I wanted that. I'm forever chasing the perfect Oasis. The next one will be 8 inch and have USB C. I can predict that, because I already traded in for paperwhite. It's okay. I never regret my purchases, but I get what you're saying. I'll use it until the Oasis 4 drops. I also have 2 sizes in Kobo, so my indecisiveness runs rampant among ereaders. Lol

    Hi. The only thing that bothers me about the paperwhite is that it doesn't have physical buttons to turn the page. I have had the keyboard 3 for more than 10 years, which even has a keyboard. It's not tactile. But I find the buttons to turn the page comfortable. Do you get used to turning the page with the touch? I wanted to buy the Oasis but I didn't want to buy it and next month they will announce the release of a new edition. I don't now what to do... 😕What do you recommmend me to do? Wait for a possible new Oasis or buy one? Which one would you recommend? Greetings from Argentina, my friend.

      I've always been a huge fan of buttons too, but it's pretty easy to adjust to using a Kindle without them. I don't think a new Oasis is going to get released any time soon. At this point I think the chances of it getting discontinued is about the same as a new version coming out in 2023.

      Tough question. I like the Oasis better, but the screen has more ghosting than the Paperwhite. It didn't used to bother me but now that I've gotten used to the newer screen that refreshes better it's hard to go back, and the battery life on the Paperwhite is much better. If I could get the Oasis on sale I'd probably go for it, but I'm inherently cheap so I'd probably get the Paperwhite if I had to choose.

      @@TheeBookReader No, the purpose of the design was ergonomics, having a nice wide space to get a good grip. Trying to hold a Paperwhite with its thin bezels is problematic. The Oasis is the same thickness where you hold it as the Paperwhite, but the Oasis gives you more space to get a better grip, so it's less fatiguing to hold over time. They didn't make the Oasis the same thickness all the way across to save weight and it's unnecessary. The whole point of the design was ease of holding.

      @@Sudden-Champion24 I read on my smart phone (iPhone 11 Pro) and the screen quality and adjustable lighting as well as dark mode makes it a great experience. The big problem for me is that it's just too heavy for my wrist and ends up hurting, phones these days are getting heavier and heavier, plus it is just that little bit too small that I'm scrolling or hitting the next page button way too often. I haven't bought a kindle before but they definitively seem like a better option. I've been leaning towards the Oasis as the backlight is a lot closer to what I'm use to with an iPhone and being able to use just one hand to hold and press the buttons seems like a really practical feature, it also weighs less so my wrist will appreciate that.

      Reading on an e-ink screen is basically the same as reading paper, or when you don't have enough light you turn on the front light (in fact I just leave my Paperwhite 3 on the 7th level all the time, draws close to nothing on power, and enough for night use). During the day/bright room you'll pretty much never need the front light so it's as close to plain paper as it gets.
      Even with the front light on, it's more like a lit paper than an LCD. Of course it will get stupid bright too with the front light cranked to max (seriously I can barely figure a reason to ever use it that strong).

    Hi, I’m considering buying an ereader for manga -mainly just manga- do you recommend going for the new paperwhite or just go for Kobo or Onyx since it’s easier to sideload files? Thanks ♥️

    • @jazminlei
      @jazminlei 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If mainly for manga, kindle does not support CBZ or CBR, you will need to convert it. I was also choosing between Kobo and Onyx Boox, but i am skeptical with the latter's battery so i ordered the Kobo Libra 2.

      Do not get any kindle for manga. There’s no color & you’ll have to convert the files to even get manga to work on it.
      Hopefully the next kindle has color but I doubt it.
      Kindle fire would be the only product that would seamlessly work for manga ATM.
