I love my Kindle Oasis, the physical buttons are great (I do'n't like touching too much the screen) and I can hold it very easy with one hand using only one side. Thanks for the overview!

I think I like the physical buttons too, but I really dislike the overall design. It is pretty awkward to hold, slippery with a narrow grip. That said I think I think the design direction is better than the touch, but still needs improvement.

Great review. I was given the oasis as a gift several weeks ago and I truly do love it. I have a 10th generation paperwhite that I thought was great but the oasis straddles over the top of that old fence and really steps into a more refined and enjoyable experience.
The real beauty of the oasis screen for me was discovered when I used it to read under an incandescent light source. The font was truly razor sharp and indistinguishable from an actual paper page.

I've been using the Kindle Oasis since March and the Paperwhite 4 for the previous couple of years prior to that. I take long motorcycle trips, road trips, whatever I want. The Oasis' battery is not something I have to worry about. I can get through a few novels or more on a charge and not be concerned. I don't even turn off the backlight anymore, I just keep it on at level 11, with the warmth at 13 and I don't notice it being on while in direct light. The premium feel and large screen with small bezels made it a fantastic device and I highly recommend it to anyone. Then again, you can't go wrong with a Kindle period.

I just upgraded to an Oasis 8GB during Prime Days (got a bundle with cover and charger brick). I had been using a 2014 Paperwhite, which was getting very slow and glitchy- I couldn't wait for any longer to replace it. So far I love the Oasis' larger display, warm lighting, case design, and best of all, the page turn buttons! I've been reading on a Kindle since the early days of the white keyboard model, so I loved those physical buttons. Set up was really easy using the Kindle app on my phone and I was happily reading in minutes.

    • @FrancoSebastianGenre

The only thing that bothers me about the paperwhite is that it does not have physical buttons to turn the page. I have had the keyboard 3 for more than 10 years, which even has a keyboard. It is not tactile. But I find the buttons to turn the page comfortable. Do you get used to turning the page with the touch? I wanted to buy the Oasis but I didn't want to buy it and next month they will announce the release of a new edition...

I got the latest Paperwhite last week as a birthday present. Compared to my previous Kindle (the discontinued Voyage) it’s a bit bigger and heavier. I read in bed and I find the Paperwhite ever so slightly too big (and I have pretty big hands). I miss the page turn buttons, but not that much, since they were hit and miss at best. The new lighting system is a deal breaker for me: the warm light is SO MUCH BETTER at night. So even if size-wise, the Voyage was better, the reading experience on the Paperwhite definitely gets the upper hand. Also, it looks like Amazon stopped updating the Voyage (15.4 is at the time of writing still not available), so I guess out with the old, in with the new.

@evan.5967 my older kindle had page turning buttons and I loved it. It was easier than turning a page in a real book. My paperwhite 11 doesn't and it is simply a pain to use. It will only let me turn page on the right side. So if I am holding lefthanded my thumb can't really reach over there. With either hand, I often end up hitting the screen in not just the right way, making it go backwards or bring up a menu. This happens fairly often and I've been using it close to two years. Maybe it's just me but I truly hate how the page turning functions.

I like my kindle oasis, so much, simply because it doesn’t have a huge chin on the bottom and there’s no logo on it. It looks so premium and I love the buttons. But one fatal flaw for me is how wide it is, it is no longer pocketable. I want the newest paper white because even if it has the logo and chin on the bottom, it still has a small enough size to fit in pockets. I almost left my oasis behind in public twice already because I can’t pocket it. The increased battery life on the paper whites is greatly appreciated as well.

After seeing the paperwhite and having used my Oasis for the last 2 years, my conclusion is that my favourite reading device is still my kindle Voyage. I still don't believe that Amazon replaced the Voyage with the oasis, just because a bunch of people could not live their lives without the physical buttons. My wife's Paperwhite is more than double that age I estimate and it has no battery issues at all. Plus the Paperwhites battery is fairly easy to replace from what I've seen, the Oasis is impossible to replace the battery without breaking the screen.
I'll be buying a Paperwhite soon, I'll miss my Oasis physically (I much prefer the chassis design vs the Paperwhite) but being unrepairable is a huge negative for me. Its 4GB storage is enough for me (if I ever come close to filling it, I could always delete read books from the storage as they stay in my Amazon account anyway). The only thing missing for me is the dark mode since my eyes are quite sensitive. But that‘s not worth spending the money for a new one. Sure the display and functionality is not up to the latest state of tech, but I don‘t mind. I think it‘s still quite nice to read on.

Love my Oasis. I do hope it doesn't get discontinued for whenever I'm ready to upgrade years from now.
I do not understand why the auto-brightness works the way it does. E-Ink works great in direct light without lighting - it's kind of the point. You don't want the front light increasing when in direct light, it just drops the battery faster. I manually manage the lighting because the better your lighting, the more you DON'T need this.

I wish you had talked about one of the main features of the Oasis far more: One-handed reading, which is a big reason to get it. It's far easier to hold the Oasis with one hand and use the physical page-turning buttons, which is how I prefer to use it. One-handed reading is much more difficult on other Kindles because of the lack of those buttons and the uniform design (the lip on the Oasis makes it easier to grip).
Comparing battery life on Kindles is kind of pointless if you ask me. Either way, it's going to last you a very long time, even if you're a heavy reader like me, and you'll never have to worry about the battery running out mid-read unless you started the day at nearly empty battery.

The only thing I hate about the SE is the larger size. In my opinion they should've kept it the smaller size and just removed more of the bezel for the screen. The SE is way heavier than my 2019 paperwhite with cases on both. I would've gotten the Oasis but I've been told the battery on it sucks.

    • @juliechio6883
      @juliechio6883 2 ปีที่แล้ว

As oasis 3 user and also got a new pw recently, the battery is actually pretty much better on new pw, but what I have thought of the new one is just extended battery life version pw4, I don’t appreciate the size becos it s a bit weighted even than oasis with case and it’s uncomfortable to hold by one hand. The screen is still grayish as the same, oasis3 is way more better on the screen and lighter. So the only big difference between pw5 and oasis 3 is battery imo.
And under comparison I would say the battery ratio could be 1week oasis vs 2.5week pw5 if 3hrs reading pre day

I've owned the latest Paper White, the new basic 6" Kindle and 2 of the latest Oasis. I love the USB-C of the Paper White and the glass screen. The 6" new Kindle feels cheap with it's plastic screen and the battery wasn't great.
The oasis is so much better with the turn buttons, it makes using it so much more comfortable.
If you can afford it and don't mind the non USB-C charging get the Oasis. The Signature has wireless charging which is a waste of time as you hardly have to charge them anyway.

I love the design aesthetic of the Oasis but I found that it's just uncomfortable to use. The metal edges dig into my palm and the aluminum back becomes slippery from the oil of my hands in just a few minutes of use. It's the most frustrating thing about it.

I also found that the rim on the front edge would really dig into my hand when holding it. But what about page turn buttons? I really thought I would miss them, but honestly it hasn't made much of a difference. Modern Kindle os is built for touch and the buttons are kind of just added on after. But the thing for me that made me switch when I saw the deal I could get was the warm light which I didn't have before but you do.

As far as I know (or maybe I'm an idiot) in sunny weather the phone screen is poorly visible, the sensor turns up the lighting to the maximum to improve visibility - understandable. However, the ereader screen works completely differently, it is clearly visible in full lighting. When we move to a dark room, the sensor should work and brighten the reader so that we can read (unlike the phone where the sensor reduces the light intensity). Logical, but not for everyone. I can be an idiot, a moron or whatever. I'll take it on board. I bought the 32gb version because I don't like being restricted. The light sensor is such a forced addition, but if there is something, I require it to work sensibly, as intended. I understand that if I go out with the reader into the yard, it still needs to light up because it can't be seen on this type of screen?

Great video sir, I have a question? Can we use Kindle for reading articles? I mean PDf files. I am a researcher, normally I used to read papers on my laptop, but it is difficult to take a laptop everywhere.

Yes u can. I don’t own a kindle but I’m informing myself and you can look up on how to transfer your pdfs to your kindle once you have one.
