    Paperwhite has no auto rotate or page turn buttons. For someone who likes to switch hands to turn pages these are something that I need as my wrists get tired after a while. Having those two options on the Oasis are enough for the upgrade. I wish it had USB-C and better battery life as well.

      This!! You beat me to this feature of the Oasis. I read every night in bed and I like to lie on my side reading. I often switch sides during a reading session and being able to just flip the Oasis is wonderful! Also, these guys go on sale all the time - don't buy any Kindle full-price! I also have the new paperwhite and I like it, too.

    So glad you mentioned the battery life. I'm actually returning my Oasis for a trade in to get the Paperwhite. Thanks for confirming what I already thought! My Oasis (I have been reading multiple hours a day) doesn't even last a week. I also have found after owning it for a year, the "ergonomics" are terrible and make my hands hurt.

    For me personally, the Oasis wins every time. The Micro USB charging isnt a big issue for me, and the premium feel of the oasis makes reading such an enjoyable experience that the extra price over the PW and standard model. I love my Oasis and really hope they continue to invest in and update the oasis line 😊

    I like page turn buttons (kobo Libra, old kindle). Having a remote page turner doesn’t address why people like page turn buttons. Eg can turn pages with one hand while the other hand is busy, such as holding a baby, stirring food, hanging onto a bus strap during commuting, driving your car…. 🙃

    For my Paperwhite, as far as your cons are concerned, to keep the back from looking nasty with fingerprints, I bought a case. Also, to help with holding it so that the power button on the bottom is less of a problem, I bought a Popsocket to help me hold it in the back. I absolutely love my 2021 paperwhite. I also didn't feel that the Oasis was worth the extra $110. As a long time paperwhite user, I think the Oasis bump would've bothered me too. Sure, page turning buttons would've been nice, but not for $110. :)

    Nice review. I have both, 2022 KPW 16gb and 2019 Oasis 3. I love the Oasis’ page turn buttons and gives me the option to switch hands. It’s awesome. But the battery is lousy. I am a voracious reader. Usually 2 hours in one sitting of reading. On the Paperwhite, I have done this every day for 1 week and the battery only went down to 70 %, no charging. The Oasis would drain down to 60% for 2 to 3 hours. Not good. I still like the Oasis a lot, and I thought I would miss the page turn buttons, but, I really don’t. I have not reached for the Oasis since getting the Paperwhite. I use the Paperwhite without a case. (Even though I have the cork case and a sleeve) I never enjoyed the cold Alumni feel of the Oasis so it always has a case on it, which negates the purpose of the shape. Paperwhite is really fantastic to ne. No regrets getting it at all.

    • @dylancanread
      @dylancanread  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True. I probably misspoke a little, but my point was just that the newest version of the base level kindle has almost all the features of the oasis, which is 2x the price and advertised as the premium model. In other words, because the oasis is the only current model to not have been revamped yet, all of the other models have pretty much caught up with it. I appreciate you pointing that out! 😁

    For Kindle, the ones I use the most are:
    - Kindle Oasis 3 for manga and comic books
    - Kindle Oasis 1 for e-books
    - 2011 Kindle 4 for e-books (and some side-loaded manga)
    I have a Paperwhite 4 and a Paperwhite 5, which I rarely use. Hands down, I will pick a device with physical page-turn buttons over any other e-reader.

    I upgraded from an older Paperwhite to Oasis when it was the only Kindle with warm light (also if I wanted to get into audiobooks with 32GB RAM). Since I have it, I really like it: I do think it's the best Kindle as far as ergonomics of holding in one hand. But yeah, if I was shopping for a Kindle this year, it would be harder to justify its ergonomics over the current Paperwhites (really cool that you can wirelessly charge with the Signature Edition). Since I have the Oasis, the only main nit pick I have with it is the micro USB: it's the worst microUSB device I've had as far as trying to line up and get USB cord plugged.

    I still have the 2016 oasis. It’s still the best. It’s lighter to hold, smaller which is nicer to hold and transport. My battery is still amazing after 6 years.
    I hate the aluminium material as it’s slippery. And the case is now an extra and too expensive. Is it still magnetic? I love the magnetic real leather case from oasis 2016.
    The only thing i want is the warm light. But if Amazon goes again with a 7 inch device then I’ll just keep my 6inch oasis until it breaks in maybe another 6 years.

    My son just gave me his 9th Generation Oasis. It doesn't have the warm light feature and the battery life is not as good, I think, as my 2018 Paperwhite. I don't care for the page turn buttons and find the Oasis a little too bulky for my liking. I told my son I'd probably trade it in. He was okay with that. I think I am going to get the new basic 2022 Kindle though. I don't really use the warm light on my tablet, so I am okay with not having it. Paperwhite looks like a toy, Oasis like a premium device. Oasis is easier to hold and thanks to the bump design it feels like it weighs half of what Paperwhite weighs.
