I have seen his same performances up to a dozen times each and always find them truly funny and elevating. Come here when you’re not feeling good about things and Foster Brooks will elevate your mind and soul! The man was the true comedic genius of our time. No comparison!

According to Greg Garrison the producer of the The Dean Martin Show, Dean only had his lines on the cue cards when working with Foster Brooks, Bob Newhart, and Johnathan Winters. That's why he was such a great audience himself in sketches like this. He was hearing the jokes for the first time himself. Which is great because we not only laugh at Foster's schtick, we laugh at Dean's reaction to it.

I'll also throw in something that you've seen plenty of times as I have. The sketch with dean and newhart about returning the toupee.....absolute gold as ALL of these sketches and comedians are.

I've always wondered with Foster whether the drunk act was something he pull off at the drop of a hat - or only if he had worked out a script I think it must be very hard to keep the act up for any real length of time as you've got to concentrate twice as hard (just as you would if you were really drunk), to make sure you get all the drunken actions in. At least, if you've worked out what you're going to say, then you can carry it off for the time needed.
He did work from a script but as he wrote it , adlibbing was always easy for him and of course Dean Martin knew him so well they just bounced off each other anyway, and any mistakes were also kept in. The best pair of Sober Drunks anywhere.
Dean Martin would be arrested and spend the rest of his life in jail if he appears on TV nowadays with a 🍷 drink a cigarette 🚬 and a face like that.... natural is now officially illegal ..
