I just love Dean reaction to these skits. How he lost it is truly priceless and he was not afraid to show everyone his human side. Just love him for the way he was
One thing Dean was known for on his show was his refusal to rehearse. So his reactions were completely spontaneous and genuine.
So the dialouge between dean and foster brooks were done on the spot? No rehearsals?

OMG!!! I saw these years earlier, watched them again and laughed harder than I have in months. Great comedy is truly timeless!!!
The guy was a genius. Not only could he mimic a drunk so well that it made you wonder if he was really smashed or acting the part. Not only that but he NEVER broke character. In all the time I have seen him act, the audience would be howling with laughter and he never so much as cracked a smile at his antics. THAT is the mark of a true professional.
Foster always reminded me of Tim Conway. Both were very skilled at getting their co-stars to crack up. RIP dear fellow.

When I watch these I think of my Mom and Dad in the living room and my brothers and sisters running around the house playing. Back then you thought you would never age. What I wouldn't give to go back for one night and experience all that again. Mom and Dad are gone now so with one Brother, don't take anyone for granted.

There was a comedian who played a Mafioso gangster, Sammy Davis Jr, Don Rickles and on and on. Did those happen in the mid or late 70's? Seems like an eternity ago for me as well. Hey! I read a while ago that Dean Martin never knew what Foster Brooks would act as what kind occupation character he would be when he enters the club scene.
It’s not just the line...it’s the “in the palm of my hand”, with that hand shaking for all it’s worth. Foster Brooks was hysterically funny...kudos to Dean for holding it together as long as he did!
Best drunk there ever was !! I grew up watching these shows. A simpler, happier time. When you could just have fun and laugh. Way better than these P.C Bullshit times.
Two class acts that cannot be replaced. Humor at its best, absolutely brilliant. Anyone can do bathroom humor and I mean anyone. Only real talent can do this. God bless them both may they rest in peace. They gave the world great happiness and joy. That is the greatest gift of all!

These guy's were comic geniuses. Families watched these shows like this together and everyone just enjoyed good clean comedy and were entertained to the fullest. I won't comment on what's considered comedy today.
Foster showed a great amount of restraint, keeping in character while Dean fell apart in front of him.

This is real comedy. Not like today’s rubbish. Most so called comedians have to use foul language to get laughs through the shock factor, or March up and down a stage ranting about something. Great to see Foster Brooks and Dean Martin having as much fun doing the sketch as the audience did watching it. 👍👍
Brooks always made a point of conspicuously slipping out of character at the end of a performance to show the audience that he was not actually drunk.

I'm probably in the minority but I loved Carol too but watching her show today... for me it doesn't hold up well at all. I don't know why. It just doesn't. Her appearances on The Garry Moore Show, however, are priceless.

The funny thing is Foster Brooks didn't drink since the mid 60s. He was so funny!
Okay. I'm old. The first time I saw Foster Brooks on "The Tonight Show." Carson was the host and no-one had ever heard of Brooks. Carson had just moved the show from New York to California. Brooks was introduced as the mayor of Burbank who had made a special trip to welcome Johnny to his new home. Dear Lord, but it was funny! Carson, of course, explained that it was not the real mayor of Burbank but a comedian named Foster Brooks.
According to Wikipedia, that was in 1972 - and I still remember it . . . 46 years later.

Foster Brooks was a longtime AM radio deejay and didn't start out on his nightclub act until he was in his fifties! When the Luvable Lush comedy routine was fading out as times and attitudes about alcohol changed he made numerous appearances on a variety of TV shows. He always cracked Dean Martin up and he included Brooks at his many 'roasts' including Dean's own roast!
Foster Brooks was so believable playing a drunk. As a kid I thought he was because Dean would be belting them down and Foster comes on and let the antics begin.
When I am in need of a good laugh to get me in a good place again I just look up Foster Brooks.
