In all the time I have seen him act, the audience would be howling with laughter and he never so much as cracked a smile at his antics. THAT is the mark of a true professional.

There was a comedian who played a Mafioso gangster, Sammy Davis Jr, Don Rickles and on and on. Did those happen in the mid or late 70's? Seems like an eternity ago for me as well. Hey! Okay. I'm old. The first time I saw Foster Brooks on "The Tonight Show." Carson was the host and no-one had ever heard of Brooks. Carson had just moved the show from New York to California. Brooks was introduced as the mayor of Burbank who had made a special trip to welcome Johnny to his new home. Dear Lord, but it was funny! Carson, of course, explained that it was not the real mayor of Burbank but a comedian named Foster Brooks.
According to Wikipedia, that was in 1972 - and I still remember it . . . 46 years later.

Foster Brooks was a longtime AM radio deejay and didn't start out on his nightclub act until he was in his fifties! When the Luvable Lush comedy routine was fading out as times and attitudes about alcohol changed he made numerous appearances on a variety of TV shows. He always cracked Dean Martin up and he included Brooks at his many 'roasts' including Dean's own roast!

Foster Brooks was so believable playing a drunk. As a kid I thought he was because Dean would be belting them down and Foster comes on and let the antics begin.

Roger Chatelain Yes. I don't know how Mr Brooks can act so well and say his lines without laughing to tears like Mr Martin

God rest both of your wonderful, loving, talented, heartfelt souls. May your souls forever rest in eternal peace in God's eternal kingdom. All of us GREATLY and DEEPLY miss both of you so much. You will always be in everyone's hearts and prayers and always remembered and never forgotten. In closing, this writer would like to offer a poem in memory of your talented and class entertainment, and what you did for all of us: The sun goes down and leaves warmth upon the land. The tide recedes and leaves seashells in the sand. The music stops and echoes in sweet refrain... For all you`ve done and given to all of us, only beautiful, heartfelt and cherished memories will forever remain.
