Unfortunately, I don't even think it is fully recognized now (although I am heartened that so many have viewed this recently) . If you haven't seen it check out Jonathan Winters with Art Carney It's really good. @@paulwagnerjr5960 Very true, Dino didn't really hit the sauce, generally sipping from a wine glass that was filled with apple juice or something. However, he actually did develop a drinking problem late in life after the sudden and tragic loss of his son, Dean Paul Martin.
That's an incredible piece of ad-libbing fed by Dean Martin's few lines - right off the cuff he's created this incredible character with a complete backstory. What a wonderful actor and comedian he was.
Faith Seidel “Those were the days, my friend we thought they’d never end. We’d sing and laugh, forever and a day. We’d live the life we choose. We’d fight and never lose. Those were the days. O yes, those were the days.”
My best friend and I loved Jonathan Winters so much we memorized some of the lines from his recording and while working in the kitchen of her dad's restaurant got in trouble more than once with the cook for causing him to lose his concentration on busy weekend nights. She was the busgirl and I was the dishwasher. I still laugh thinking of Marilyn coming through the kitchen door pushing her bus cart and singing "Well, Billy...Billy's comin' into town. Comin' in to shoot the marshall, gonna shoot him, shoot him down, well Billy, oh, Billy...Billy's comin' into town. Junction City! Junction City! You can get out now, Billy" This was from his spoof of Billy the Kid. Another one we memorized was "Maudy Frickert and a day at a funeral...her brother having just passed away...." This is one of his most hilarious sketches in which the funeral director is gay and the piano player is drunk "Whadya want Mrs. Frigger....regular funeral music..or somethin' he'd like?" Yes, those were the good ol' days. I just don't see these wonderful comedians being replaced today. I miss them all and long to be truly entertained as I was when I was a kid in the fifties and sixties. In those years we had a wealth of entertainment in our own living rooms every night! I imagine some of those big shows like the Jackie Gleason show with dancers and many famous guests plus his own cast cost more money than producers are willing to spend these days. As for the words that are bleeped, with a little lip reading I can make out Dean saying "You bet your sweet a_ _." And Jonathan retaliates with You bet your (unintelligible) sweet a _ _." It might be "You bet your sorry, sweet a - -."
I loved Jonathan Winters as a kid, I didn't understand just how amazing he was at the time ony that he was funny. Later realizing he made up pretty much everything on the spot made me really appreciate him as a comedian. The man was a genius at his craft.

Jonathan and Dean both lived about 10 miles from my house when I was a kid. On occasion we would see them outside their homes near the road (very rural) setting, and just relaxing taking in the countryside view (Santa Monica Mountains). Whenever we saw them we would wave driving by and they were just as friendly as could be. Waving back and all smiles. Those were good childhood times and memories.
Amazing, both of them, but Jonathan is such an epic performer really. I often credit him and Rodney Dangerfield with inspiring later treasures like John Candy and Robin Williams. All three of them could do improv like nobody else.
An awesome video of Dean Martin & Jonathan Winters, duo improvisations. I've never seen Dean crack up like this😅 O my! Who can holds theirs laughingly.😂🤣 Thank you v much for the post.
Susan, if you want to hear DM really lose it, watch the video of JW roasting Frank Sinatra! Dean Martin introduces Jonathon Winters as the man who used to drive Frank on his concert tours ..... Mr. Elwood Suggins!!
Was there ever anyone funnier? Robin Williams used joking refer to Jonathan as 'Dad' but he knew he was a very distant second to him when it came to improvisation. My favorites were his sketches in the 'Attic' on his old syndicate show The Wacky World of Jonathan Winters. He could pick up the simplest objects like an old hat or a stick and create the wildest material ever. There will never be another like him.
Jules I think he did enjoy a drink, but only socially. He was never the lush that he portrayed himself to be onstage. After all, as has been pointed out by many others he could never have sustained the successful long-term career he had on TV, films and records if he HAD been an alcoholic.
I had a Jonathan Winters comedy album on vinyl LP years ago with his "World's Oldest Airline Stewardess" routine. I would love to find it on TH-cam. It has to be one of the funniest comedy bits ever.
I think it will be a long, long time before anyone will be able to come close to Jonathan Winters. I haven't seen anyone in the last 30 years who was so spontaneous in creating laughter in so many ways. He could always create something from nothing (does this make any sense ?). I really like Robin Williams, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy - Etc. But, Jonathan is a force of nature. I doubt we will see his like ever again.
+R. S. Watkins And, as you probably know, Robin always said that Jonathan was his main influence. And, Jonathan also made several appearances on "Mork & Mindy". Best wishes, Ted
+Theo Lamp Winters was great and so unique. The other people mentioned here are all very good at what the do. The great ones all have something all their own that can't honestly be compared to another. Trying to say who is funnier, Winters or Conway or Robin Williams is just not something that can be determined. I think just leaving it at "they are all great" makes the most sense..
They are awesome together! So funny! Jonathan Winters was one of a kind so good at Improv. It was so sad to see him go. There were so many good things in the "Good Ol' Days!
Probably to the nature of the entertainment business. 1,2, or 3 hit wonders. And then to the next cash cow. Whether it be comedy, film, or music, it's the next buck. True art has become a lost concept within entertainment industry.
Jonathan is still the king of improv. He was Robin Williams' mentor and inspiration, but Robin never was able to tap into that ever-flowing, ever-original motherlode of spontaneous lunacy the way Jonathan could. Robin instead had a repertoire of pre-mined, well-rehearsed material that he absorbed so completely that he could draw on any of it on demand, giving the appearance of spontaneity. And Robin, to his ever-loving credit, respectfully acknowledged this by doing everything he could to keep Winters in the spotlight for another generation, including himself performing with The Master. That's generosity and humility. Jonathan and Robin . . . I'll one day see you again on that big improv stage in the sky.

I'd heard of Jonathan Winters before, but never saw him on TV... thank goodness I found this and his 'conversations' with Johnny Carson. A true comedian... no rude jokes, or cursing needed. Today's so-called comedians could learn a lot from this.
Jonathan Winters, Dean Martin, and several other entertainers from the 40's, 50's, and 60's are completely irreplaceable. Nobody in Hollywood today can come anywhere close to these guys back then.
We just never realized the level of the talent we were watching would never ever be matched again. The 30’s-70’s produced all of the best talent that can’t be touched. Whenever we saw them we would wave driving by and they were just as friendly as could be. Waving back and all smiles. Those were good childhood times and memories.
Both were great. Mr Winters was amazing..
ABLAZ X (Armaniblast) Have you ever seen Robin Williams and Jonathan Winters together? You can't stop laughing.
the tow truck is resembled by the tow truck in cars.
Improvising at its best and all-out hilarious!!!
"You're not like you are on the television: sweet, boozed." LOL!
May you andDean Martin rest inpeace
Rest in peace, Jonathan, you hilarious, hilarious man.
Simply amazing talent. Robin Williams God Bless his soul. Good clean humor that doesn’t need any bad language just humor cracks me up
Amazing, both of them, but Jonathan is such an epic performer really.
Who can holds theirs laughingly.😂🤣
Thank you v much for the post.
Susan, if you want to hear DM really lose it, watch the video of JW roasting Frank Sinatra! Dean Martin introduces Jonathon Winters as the man who used to drive Frank on his concert tours ..... Mr. Elwood Suggins!!
Winters was the funniest improviser ever, and yet his dramatic performance on the T Zones Game of Pool is brilliant
I was fortunate enough to catch Dean on stage in Vegas before he passed away.
Dean who?
Mr winters is a comic genius. This era was the best I grew up watching all the actors and comedians of this era
When you have real world class talent on stage, all you need are two chairs, a couple seat belts, and "Away we go!"
Thanks for the refreshing, revitalzing memories of two FINE, comic guys!
Dean Martin wasn't a drunk, he didn't even drink! It was an ACT! And he played it perfect!!
Jules I think he did enjoy a drink, but only socially. He was never the lush that he portrayed himself to be onstage. After all, as has been pointed out by many others he could never have sustained the successful long-term career he had on TV, films and records if he HAD been an alcoholic.
Oh I didn’t realise that. 😂
Foster Brooks
Wonderful talent both of them. 📽️🎬😀🎵📺
Comedic genius, didn't even have to swear.
Happy to have found this, much appreciation for Mr. Winters and Mr. Martin. Improve between two people is a favorite.
how awesome they were, no matter how much time passes they can still make me laugh
Hello Patricia, How are you doing?
Two icons in an age of great talent.
I love Jonathan winters and teamed up with Dean'o they don't make em like that anymore!
Two of the greatest ❤
Theo Lamp Tim Conway on the Carol Burnett Show was every bit as good if not better.
Theo Lamp Robin Williams was also good at improv and a big fan of Winters, in fact, there are some funniest moments online featuring these two.
Theo Lamp We had him somewhat with Robin Williams. Sadly, there are none like them around today.
You can always count on Jonathan Winters for loads of fun.
You bet your sweet ass you can!
Just loved it , you don't see that today, it's good to be old
That is great comedy to make Dean burst out laughing at the end. Hard to catch him off guard!!
Wow! Jonathan Winters's Walter Brennan impersonation was spot on!
They are awesome together! So funny! Jonathan Winters was one of a kind so good at Improv.
It was so sad to see him go.
There were so many good things in the "Good Ol' Days!
this was golden era of entertainment, which we have no longer.
they didn't swear... all class
Shannon Crowson hhh. ,,MMM. C 😠😡😡😡😡💀💀🎃🎃👨👩👦👦🐒🐤🐤🦓 🐆🐅🦈🐊🦍🌝🌞🌞🌻🌻🌼🌸🌜🧀🍠🍔🍔🍕🍡🍡🍶🍶🍪🍭🍫🍿🌰🌰🌰🍩🍩🍩 🥛🥛🥃👩👩🏿🎤
SNL sometimes gets it right.
miss all these tv-classics
Oh, you old sourpuss, you
Ah, the good old days, where have they gone. Bummer!!!!
Probably to the nature of the entertainment business. 1,2, or 3 hit wonders. And then to the next cash cow. Whether it be comedy, film, or music, it's the next buck. True art has become a lost concept within entertainment industry.
There are a few diamonds in the rough, but I must agree, very few are polished as well as Winters and others in his era.
Linda Wowk they’re all in Valhalla having a good time.
General John Archer Lejeune / luh jern (CMC XIII )
would be proud of this fine gentleman. Jonathan is a WWII Marine
Absolute Brilliance!! Jonathan Winters, what a helluva actor/comedian/Man and Handsome too,in MY Book!! If you've never seen "A Game of Pool"- Twilight Zone Episode, along with Jack Klugman,go get it,watch it,tons of site where ya can watch it for free in HD, it is however,of course in black and white(which I Love)...its Jonathan on a more serious side, what a great actor. I Love Dean Martin, the man has a heart of gold and a soul equally as good. bless ya both and your beloved one's,we love you forever. so glad I grew up in the 60's.
that man was the best ever-----I miss him
I'd heard of Jonathan Winters before, but never saw him on TV... thank goodness I found this and his 'conversations' with Johnny Carson. A true comedian... no rude jokes, or cursing needed. Today's so-called comedians could learn a lot from this.
The BEST!! And, sooo missed.
Those are the days ! I never missed Dean Martin show.
Jonathan Winters, Dean Martin, and several other entertainers from the 40's, 50's, and 60's are completely irreplaceable. Nobody in Hollywood today can come anywhere close to these guys back then.
Amen!
Johnathan winter! What an entertainer.
We just never realized the level of the talent we were watching would never ever be matched again. The 30’s-70’s produced all of the best talent that can’t be touched. Just a lot of brilliant actors, actresses, comedians, game show hosts and sports announcers. We have really fallen off with today’s talent.
Thank God I grew up in this era of real talent.
George Vreeland Hill then ur old huh?
Agree!! The best comedians , the best music, the best tv shows ..etc etc. yeah I'm old lol
@@pamkammann1176 Through these, clips, some of the younger people are discovering this talent . The ones who do reaction videos get introduced to it; and it's passed on. A glimmer of hope!
