Going down memory lane.....got off my flight to Burbank back around ‘87 or so....and foster was couple steps ahead of me.....he slowed down walking up the ramp...as I passed him...I pleasantly said to mr. brooks...I enjoy your performances...he politely acknowledged my statement and
Simply continued walking in swaggering style....cool cat indeed..

An even bigger one is that you actually believe it. He drank pretty heavily until 1964, when he quit cold turkey. Someone bet him $10 he couldn’t. He said, “at the time I really needed the ten dollars.”

Foster was my grandad. A little-known fact was that he had such severe dyslexia he couldn’t accept the lead in a movie or anything where he was required to memorize lines. I’ve always wondered, if they’d just told him about the character and let him run with it, they’d have had a smash (pardon the pun-I am my grandfather’s kin, after all 😂) hit on their hands. I’m sure he improved the more times he played this character, but he had an innate sense of timing and delivery, a true gift.

SNL is not exactly the competition. SNL is, by its nature, a comedy experiment. They try a lot of things that don’t work very well but they also do a lot that does work. Dean Martin’s show was in prime time. SNL is late night, with a target audience of young people who couldn’t find anything to do on Saturday night.
It doesn’t get any funnier than Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin, and Palin herself liked it so much she hosted the show one night and even performed with Tina. For another example, I defy you to seek out SNL’s spoof commercial for Amazon Echo Silver (it’s here on youtube) and not laugh at it. It’s hilarious!

My all time favorite Foster Brooks skit. I'll never tire seeing it again and again or fail to laugh. This is REAL comedy. A bucket full of 4 letter words so-called comedians spew out today is NOT comedy, yet it is allowed and not a skit like this. What is with that? The PC world has lost the plot. Also, Dean Martin was one of the most talented people ever and, though popular as he was, he was never given the accolades he deserved. He did it all - singing, comedy, serious acting, TV, movies, live performances. Very few entertainers can even come close to claiming having done it all like he did.

greg hughey Well, the Dean Martin Show actually ran for 9 years from 1965 to 1974, but you’re right, this sketch must have been from the 1970s because according to Wikipedia the 747 that Foster mentions was first put into service with Pan Am in 1970.

What I also found funny about him was that others would be breaking up around him when he did a routine.
