I’m in the middle of doing this to some pants but wasn’t sure if I was doing it correctly. Thank you so very much for the detailed explanation. I appreciate it!

Yay! Glad it was helpful 😊 Here's how I upsized a jumpsuit with side panels: th-cam.com/video/dE4_s6J4HhA/w-d-xo.html & another with full length fabric inserts: th-cam.com/video/q01ddIMzHsM/w-d-xo.html
Thanks, seeing the simplicity of the project helped me to have more motivation. I've got a good pair of trousers that are way too tight. I found similiar fabric but when I put in the panels the flow of the pants looks different so am trying to figure out how to make it look better and get the fabric to flow better.
Thanks so much 😍 I simply hemmed up the raw edge of the fabric at the waistband - you can check out some photos + description over on my blog post here: bit.ly/3wnZC5k
Hello and congrats! I really loved whole process...I like quick and fine results sewing tricks and for sure I will work up all my favorite clothes. I am just wondering...if this design fits for a man trousers...I mean...there are just few cm but...the design looks cool for a girl. I would like to increase size for my husband and got a lot of fabrics but not same tone with the trousers I want to work and are a kind of casual ones. thank you and keep going😊🩷

THANK YOU...🤣😂😅 that was a classic tip.... LOVE the way you "enlarged" the back panel only! 😂😍 oh I needed that laugh. Glorious!! I'm about to fix some pants... good luck to me, eh! Haha! Thanks heaps! Reminds me of the time I bought 2 really pretty short sleeve tops online from Asia. The price was right, the model looked gorgeous in them, as I was sure to be also ... BUT when I put them on, besides almost choking myself around the neck (round band with v-neck cutout), I discovered that the sleeves also were sewn on the wrong way... back seam to front !!! Hillarious!! Picture it!! Now I'll have to subscribe for more hot tips. 💌
Thank YOU for the fab comment 😊 I've also gotten waaay too many garments online that were less than stellar on arrival - luckily we can easily refashion just about anything into something awesome! 😘
Fantastic! This is gonna help with the pants I cannot return to goodwill that don't fit! Also I got a problem with my thighs ruining the inside of my pants what would you recommend for a fix?
🤪 I'm always having to reglue, restitch & repaint my projects🤣 but that's the beauty of refashioning - if you make a mistake you can fix it easily or simply transform it into something else!
After watching this video, I felt confident enough to try it. Should have heeded your warning, I sewed the panel to the wrong side of the pants lol.😅😅😅
Absolutely! You just need to add an upside down triangle panel to each side of the waist/hips in the width & length you need. (my bell bottom tutorial shows how to add triangular panels: bit.ly/3ic4rWG & my upsizing tutorial index has lots of help too: bit.ly/3eEIr5Z)
I absolutely love this idea your way it was to the point I love it! I’m just wondering I’ve trying to do this with a pair of jeans and intern a funky pattern down the side of the jeans!! And I’m just wondering if this will still be okay if I was using a 100% cotton fabric or do you think it might have a tendency to fray would I be better using a stretch material?cxx
I've used a variety of fabrics for inserts and have found that the closer you can get to the original fabric texture the better. A light, silky fabric doesn't work at all with a heavy material (like denim) but a thicker cotton is awesome. The insert fabric I used for these was a lot lighter than the trousers so I simply doubled it to make it thicker. It was also easy to fray which is why I made the "fabric tubes" to help prevent it once everything was stitched together (check out the 2:55 mark for the explanation) 😃
hi! i recently bought a mini skirt that has an elastic waist but is a stiff fabric without stretch on the rest of the skirt. the waistband fits fine, it’s just too tight in the hips/legs. do you think using this method would still work without cutting through the waistband and just adding extra fabric to the side seams? thank you!!
Absolutely 😃 try making your inserts a triangle shape & stitch the smaller/narrow end under the waistband area - this should give the skirt a nicer shape than using a rectangular insert ✂️

Also I got a problem with my thighs ruining the inside of my pants what would you recommend for a fix?
I usually just add patches to the inside of pants/jeans/trousers that have worn thigh areas 🧵

I love this! do you have recommendations for how to do this with wide-legged pants where you only want to add at waist / hips, not all the way down?

Do you have photos of how you stitch the inside, I can’t see the seem line on the images. Thank you 🎉
I don't have photos but I used a simple straight stitch to attach the panels then zigzagged over the seams for extra strength 🧵😊
