Hey Lydia. Greetings from Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies. Quite often when speaking with other sewists, and women in general, I tell them that whatever problem you encounter in life, someone else, in another part of the world, is experiencing that exact same thing too. Obviously, not at the same time or day!! The thing that differentiates the two of you, is that either one of you, will come up with a solution to the problem, that will help the other out of his or her dilema. Like my soldier Dad used to say to us kids at home; "Yours, is not an isolated case." ❤ Or, "We are not isolated from such and such!" Many thanks for sharing. Very neatly done. Bravo and thumbs up to you. Now I'll go do my dress pants exactly like that. Only my zipper opening is on my left side, so I will take out the zip, install it into the center of an oval shape godet, then add the entire piece onto the pants side. Yippee! 😂😂😂😂❤
I can't believe how economic you were in your use of fabric, I got bit of second hand anxiety hearing you needed to add another 5 and a half inches. With this and your downsizing video, I don't think I'll have to buy a new pair of trousers in a long while! Also, Peppercorn is lovely ♥
Thank you! Believe me, I was definitely frustrated and anxious but thankfully it worked out in the end! And now I know what to do if I have to do this again!!
After viewing this I feel confident that I will be taking my shorts that need tailoring to a seamstress 😂😂😂 I’m not a sewer to begin with, and this video has shown me that it will be worth the money to put this task in the trustworthy hands of a professional! Lol love the video
There are many other videos showing similar add-ons or reductions on shirts, blouses, pants, jeans and skirts. TH-cam has a wonderful array of tutors, on every subject. ❤❤❤ Absolutely Awesome!!! 😂😂😂
I have a very similar job to do and I am a man who doesn't know what he is doing. I didn't think I would find anyone actually adding extra material like I need to. This is perfect. Thank you. Also, you seem like a very delightful person. I shall subscribe.
Your assistant Peppercorn is so adorable and I am truly loving the name. This video is exactly what I needed for my new covid19 waistline and also thrifted slacks I bought that did not follow the neck sizing rule. It looks like this can also be used for altering the size to be smaller? This is a great tutorial and I desperately needed it. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the New Year.
She is the best assistant haha! Thank you! She looks like a little peppercorn when curled up to nap so we thought it was perfect! I am so glad this video is helpful for you! And yes the concept is good for taking in pants. I always take in the back of trousers or slacks as the waistbands are generally designed to be taken in or let out in the centre back! Thank you and bless you too!!
This is so extremely helpful for me. My butt is too big for most of my pants now but I don’t want to buy new ones. You have saved me so much trouble. Thank you!
Best Video I have found to add hip and waist to my husband's cargo shorts after sewing them to small for him❤️thank you for this awesome video!! It's actually super easy!
Nicely done!! I've increased the waist on many of my husband's pants using the back seam, but I've never opened up the side seams as you did. It worked beautifully! And that was brilliant to use a well-fitting pair of pants as the pattern for sloping in the seams. I'm going to use your ideas. Peppercorn is ADORABLE!. We have 2 lovable kitties and one large highly affectionate dog. One of my kitties is always hanging around when I'm working at the computer or sewing. I drives me a little bonkers sometimes but I love him so much that I let him do it.
This video is awesome - thank you so much! I have a number of pairs of trousers that need either tapering or upsizing, and now, I feel like I can do it! (and Peppercorn is adorable! I had my own little black cat on my lap as I watched this... )
I am so happy to hear that this video is giving you the boost you needed! It was definitely a daunting task for me, to begin with, but I found that its really not half so bad once you start!! Peppercorn is my favourite little companion! Thank you! Black cats are the best!! Little sleek and cute panthers haha!
Oh my gosh thank you so so so much for this video!! Thrifting clothes I've had to alter so many pairs of my trousers, especially when being so short, and I haven't had to take anything out before so thank you for this video❤❤❤
Fantastic job!!! 3 of my favorite khakis no longer fit me as my waist went from a nice 34 to a beer drinking 36. I took them to the seamstress and they were rejected for not having enough fabric to let out. I'm disheartened as I do not want to let them go or buy new ones. The only alternative is to go on a beer diet....and that is just out of the question.
Fantastic video, thank you! So clear and well presented, I’m gonna do it! Exactly what I needed. BUT - on the “after” shots, I couldn’t see the back seam insert…? I’m sure you put it in - is it truly invisible? You are a genius seamstress my lady, I bow to you xx
Thank you so much! There is no vaccine insert men's trousers like this have extra seam allowance at the center back so that you can let it out. So I just let it out as much as I could and then I added the extra to the sides. 🤗
I'd like to add a few centimetres to the waist band on hubby's trousers. The only place I can think of to get extra fabric is from the inside of the waist band - its the same fabric, so I'm thinking I can replace the inside with plain fabric, and use that to add a panels. Wish me luck!
If your husband notices that his suit pants are too small - 2 days before an important event and 5 days before payday - your video is a real lifesaver.
Our world has become such a throw away society. It must give you a great sense of accomplishment to be able to make use of something that would otherwise be discarded. You are so talented!
Hey hope you’re well! I have trousers that are abit tight from my thighs and waist. I’m going to take them to the tailors. When increasing the waist size will they loosen up on my thighs too?
This is awesome, I wondered if there was a way to extend pants at the waist! Thought, could you have l released the pleats and then you would’ve only needed to worry about redoing the waistband? I need to let some of my pants out and considered it for myself (but really it’s an excuse to get rid of the pleats lol)
Wow :0 , you being able to "fix" or improve a garment like this gives me hope I'll be this good at sewing one day , Also "husband" woow i thought you were my age like nineteen xd
Thank you for this video, my Dad is now egg shaped , at 87, and I let his trousers out as much as I could, but to fit over his hips so they don't fall down it wasn't enough. So I took them to a tailor who said it needed another 10 inches adding, I had taken it out as much as possible and it wasn't worth doing because it would cost so much, £60 ! My Dad would faint lol and he won't wear braces because they are too fiddly for him. So hurrah for your video, I will give it a go 😁
Hey love your channel! Inspired me to start customizing my wardrobe of hand me downs and thrifted things to actually fit! I’m curious tho, what kind of camera are you using?
Super impressed!! It looks incredible!! But..can I do it? Bought a suit for my daughter to wear for prom from Amazon. Originally she loved it now she is saying the pants are a bit tight. Haven't determined how I'm doing this. They actually fit so it might not be as dramatic(i.e. adding fabric to the sides)but I may need to add to the back waist band. I am shortening the sleeves to the jacket so I will have some fabric.
I just found a great pair of wool trousers, sadly they are women’s. The waist is too small and the rear is too big! You are a lifesaver! My tailor wouldn’t even quote it. Wish me luck. 🍀
@@LydiaNaomi ohhh girl... I wish for a Juki!! at moment I use a 15-91... old singer... its my' Baby Beastie'... super strong!... but not the Juki strong!!
Well the jeans are just a reference, I know that the hips of the trousers fit dave, im not trying to change that, if I did the pockets would be tiny. So using the jeans as a guide more for the taper than overall fit, I am marking a gradual taper from the trouser hips instead of trying to perfectly match the jeans (which are more fitted in the hip). Does that make sense?
Thanks for that informativ video. That's fine. I would like to see a video what to do, when the chino trousers are too tight and in the back there is nothing to let out... :-)
@@LydiaNaomi okay that's one way. I've heard you can seperate the waistband from the trousers, than stretch and iron it, after you fix the waistband again. Is that possible?

I wouldn't have thought the amount of fabric, you cut off, sufficient, but you made it work!
Thank you, in truth, I was very worried that it wouldn't be enough, but it worked out well!

Thanks for letting us follow you. Question: shouldn't you do the waist first to see how the pants fall, then herm?
Great vibes in the video! Very relaxing!

Hi I have a pair of dress pants I need around 5 inches added how much would it cost to do what you did in the video ?
I don't know how much it would cost but you could take it to your local tailors shop and get an estimate :)

At 1:48, when you were marking the side seam, you marked the slacks an inch or so beyond the jeans seam instead of right alongside. Why?
