So I just started using Differin the other day. First night I layered it over my moisturizer with another layer of moisturizer on top because I was afraid of any side effects. Then the next night, I put it on my bare skin with moisturizer on top. I was expecting redness or peeling and even some purging but I got none of that. I think I have sensitive skin but I think my skin seems to love it. I woke up with my pimples drastically reduced. I am so excited to see the benefits the longer I use it!

Differin is a godsend! I had decent skin in high school but it took a turn in college for a multitude of reasons (stress, changing diet, lack of sleep, etc). My skin would be pimple free for a day or week at most before my next breakout but differin made all the difference! Beware! You must put moisturizer on before, let it dry, and then put it on. The term retinoid is the umbrella term for all vitamin A derivatives .. including the synthetic versions (i.e. adapalene). Is there a reason you call prescription versions “retinoids” and the drugstore or over the counter ones “retinol”? I just want to make sure I’m not misunderstanding anything in my research. Sending love 💕

    • @preronapalit5734
      @preronapalit5734 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Retinoids include adapalene, retinaldehyde, retinol, retinol palmitate. Retinol is an alcohol which is effective but has side effects, retinaldehyde is an aldehyde i.e., as effective as retinol without the side effects. Retinol palmitate is the least effective and least irritating. Retinaldehyde is also the costliest and not easily available. So one may use encapsulated retinol (which is non irritating) or retinol palmitate instead of it.

    • @mercedess3787

Actually, depending on which differin you get, epiduo can be much stronger than it. “Differin is sold in two forms: Adapalene 0.1% which can be bought without a prescription (over the counter) and Adapalene 0.3% that requires a prescription. Epiduo is a combination of Adapalene 0.1% and Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%. Epiduo Forte is a combination of Adapalene 0.3% and Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%.”

Bliss glycolic and PHA night serum (not mentioned in this video, thank GOD) got rid of the intense buildup of dead skin around my nose and chin but completely destroyed my skin's moisture barrier. Even the niacinamide day serum and toner in the morning and acids at night would cause severe irritation, and I will never fully trust Bliss again. I just ordered their new fragrance-free pre/postbiotics line, because second chances, but I AM switching serum brands to pure hyaluronic acid, only using niacinamide in ANYTHING when I start to feel oilier than usual, and changing to an AHA in wash-off formula, to only be used weekly. it's just a question of finding what products will suit the skin, and I thank Hyram for helping us on this journey.

    Finally a new drugstore video!
Everyone's hyping these Olay creams and I'm shocked about how much demithicone is in these creams, especially for this much money. Since then I'm doubting if these creams are really as good, when all they do is creating a layer of plastic on your skin. There are way better drugstore skin products than Olay, for example the things you recommended.
Explanation: as much as I know, after using a silicone based creme (in this case dimethicone) your skin appears smoother, because (as I said) all it does is creating this layer on your skin. Like silicone based primers. They don't sink into your skin, they create this layer, that fills pores and wrinkles, wich then gives you that smooth skin look, but they actually never "fight" against your wrinkles, etc.. In my opinion, a good creme sinks into your skin and works from the inside.
But I'm no expert. If an expert reads this, please tell me your opinion on it.

Let moisturizer sink in before putting it on, let the differin dry, then put moisturizer on after! I started only using it 1-2 times a week, then after a couple weeks moved up to 2-3, then moved after another couple weeks to every other day. Now I can get away with doing it every day but I ALWAYS put on moisturizer before. You might notice effects for the first couple weeks but it has greatly helped my skin!!!!

Dr. Dray has recommended Vanicream cleansing bars because they aren’t stripping, as opposed to all other bars. But that’s all I’ve heard about bars from a skincare TH-camr 🤷🏽‍♀️ From what I gather from his comments in previous videos, Hyram doesn’t seem to like bars because they may harbor bacteria. I personally use the Vanicream Z-Bar to treat my facial sebhorreic dermatitis and loveeee it.

I personally do not feel like the gel is that strong so please don't be afraid to use it anyone! It might have just not worked for hyram, but that doesn't mean it won't work for you. From my own experience salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can be way more harsh if used too frequently

I alternate using prescription tretinoin or a chemical exfoliant (usually salicylic acid) each night, and make sure to have at least one night a week where I don’t use either. I think having at least one day off from skin treatments a week is a good way to prevent over doing it

    • @sadiajafrinn

I'll suggest don't use any chemical exfoliators especially the high strength Ordinary one while on Differin. Do not use chemical exfoliators at all and do not wax your face while on Differin, also do not go to the sun without sunscreen on. You gotta be extra careful while using Differin.

Any recommendations on a daily moisturizer with SPF mineral. I have super sensitive skin to chemical spf (it burns like niacin!) and live in Alaska. The extreme cold, dark winters with 24 hr sun summers makes you have to get creative with skin care. I am almost 40 with only a few fine lines so far due to completely avoiding the sun like the plague in my youth. Also, trying to get the husband to use a sunscreen is like pulling teeth so a 2 in 1 would be great for both of us.

    • @Sunlit_Reading

Hyram as well as dermatologists on TH-cam like Doctorly have recommended using a standalone sunscreen, and not a moisturizer with sunscreen in it. The reason being that the amount of product you'd need to get enough spf on your face would make one look like "an oil slick" (Hyram's words). In his latest review of sunscreens, Hyram mentioned the Biossance mineral sunscreen as being extremely hydrating to the point where you could skip your moisturizer, if you really want a standalone. Anyhow, hope this helps :)

I used to not believe in drugstore skincare nor do I believe in luxury skincare as well 😂 but I believe in those 'independent' brand that has their own store (at least where I live) such as the body shop, laneige, innisfree etc. but the more I explore in skincare, I understand the philosophy of it. like what's your goal, your target area etc. it doesn't matter what brand or price point, sometimes the cheap one does better and do the job lmao. bcos the expensive one usually invested for their packaging. some of the formulation can be found in drugstore brand 🤷🏻‍♀️ unless they patten the formula like skinceuticle ce ferulic
