Maybe I love your content because of the autism. My youngest has autism. He's 17 and significantly developmently delayed. Last weekend we finally made it down to Clint's. He doesn't like to touch others or be touched. The first snake he held her face got close to his and he had an issue. Ten minutes later he looked like he'd been doing it for ten years. He fell madly in love. He held a dozen+ snakes the skink and the monitor. The little one wrapped around his neck. They crawled over his head all around his body.He had no problem at all. He couldn't get enough. He's got fairly twitchy hands so we passed on the small lizards because it wasn't safe for them. He didn't want to leave. I had to promise him with many repeated trips back to get out the door. He said "Mom I'm a reptile guy like on the electronics ". I was so happy for him.

I've come to realize that most of the great people in our history are probably autistic so make sure your kids are aware of that too. Autism is a term that we use to describe people who think a bit differently and it's people who think a bit differently that lead to great changes and forward strides in human culture, but in each of those cases they found somebody who was able to translate for them when communicating so that's an important thing to focus on getting better at and also finding people who can bridge the gap.

I like how to champion for creatures that have developmental issues. I really hope Elmo grows and thrives. I feel bad for Kinkers ( name I just made up). His life will go to sustain another. I keep my yard as wild as I can for the bees and birds only to be told by one of my children that it was an eyesore. I digress, you keep putting out these wonderful videos, Kevin. I may not keep reptiles but I certainly have learn so much from your videos.💓💓

Once again Kevin, you prove yourself an awesome human and animal breeder. Some breeders might callously toss the imperfect aside for culling, but you respect their lives and give them a chance when possible, and mercy and usefulness when not. Every video you show your heart and demonstrate how to be a good steward of our natural world. Much respect and I pray only good karma comes to you. ❤🐍🐢🐝🦎
Kevin u truly are the most amazing reptile breeder and educational teacher. I’ve learned so much from u in all the years I’ve been watching u. I don’t even own a snake but I do have sulcata tortoises that are my happy place. When I have a bad day in this wheelchair I live in I just go outside and they change my whole attitude. I’m the paralyzed Marine that always comments and during the live u said we would talk more about getting a monitor from u. ELMO is gorgeous.
Love how informative you are about your reptiles. Its so great that some of the little special critters get the same amount of love and attention as the exceptional ones. Finding good homes for your special needs reptiles, thats wonderful!! Hopefully you can find a happy medium and continue to put out video's.
I'm very supportive with how you keep the circle of life going. It's horrible that the little guy was born with life threatening issues, but his life will bring nourishment to something else still giving his life purpose rather than just tossed or cremated like some would. Too many people put the human feelings above the quality of life for the animal. Elmo even if he can't see can still have a wonderful snake life. I am praying for Snarfles and I hope he's doing well - poor guy has been so abused, but luckily he's in good hands now and Kevin will know when he's had enough and won't let him suffer.
@@NewEnglandReptile Thank you for that clarification. I completely mistook him for Sylvester - I went back into videos and checked. Is there any update for Sylvester?
Love the idea of a membership program! Just please try to have a level that's workable for those of us that are a bit challenged in the dollar amount. LOL If I didn't have reptiles than money wouldn't be so much of a challenge at times. I really respect your thoughts on deformities. After years of work in rescue and rehab, I've found all species just get on with it. Unless it's life limiting, they live in the moment and figure out the work around for them. It's humans that add the pity. Thanks!
I breed many species of poison dart frogs and tarantulas. Every so often there are froglets with spindly leg syndrome (sls) or something else not quite right. It's sad but it's part of the hobby you may have to endure if you have breeding plans. It's not always ethical or kind to try to save young that cannot feed on their own or live a relatively normal life. It is heartbreaking though. Especially after all the work, care and love put into getting the animals to even be born, to see a beautiful froglet I raised from egg-tadpole-froglet morph out with sls is crushing. I am grateful that it is extremely infrequent in my case because I supplement properly, and I do small batch breeding. Very good and educational video. I keep snakes and lizards as pets too, but I don't produce them (aside from mourning geckos.) Regardless these kinds of videos are extremely interesting to me. I love that you show the not so pretty stuff about breeding and keeping reptiles. There's no need to sugar coat reality. I have mad respect for NERD for that. Also, I LOVE the rescue/treatment videos. These can be an invaluable resource for people who keep reptiles but for whatever reason can't afford (or just won't) bring their animals to a vet. I'm not advocating for people to do that, but I realize that there are many folks who don't have access to exotic vets as well as people who wouldn't even take their animal to a vet if they could, so it's better the info is out there than it not be. Cheers!
My bp bel's irises are partially clear which makes them look half pink from a distance and you can see zoomed in that it's because you can see tiny veins and the clear spot in each iris just look white. The vet said it was just a birth defect. Unfortunately we also noticed he had cataracts and they will eventually cause him to go blind. We've not noticed a single difference.
Absolutely knew we had more in common than just the love of reptiles! Love finding out you are autistic because I am too! Always loved how you explain/teach things! So much easier to learn from you, kudos! Keep it up!
As much as I love the bubblegum videos, Andy has been doing awesome with putting these together. Snarfles is gonna have to compete with Elmo for attention now. Also, did you ever get the letter I sent you back in mid-May? I suggested doing memberships, I see Andy is on top of it. 🥰 I hope the other retic can recover without long term problems. Kevin, you are just a treasure to this industry. Thank you for everything you do, and are. Since you care for all of your animals, why not start a " sponsor program" for these special animals so we Nerd fans could help pay for their care? I would definitely do that❤
Kevin just seems like such a chill dude. Im such a sucker for medical info related to reptiles, all of this is super valuable to reptile keepers I hope Elmo can get his eyes back and working. Im super curious how retic breeders can sell all 20ish babies from each clutch, and all those babies from several clutches. I would worry there wouldnt be a big market for such care-intensive snakes. I love retics with all my heart, but i cant give them the space they deserve, so ill stick with my super dwarfs
I never comment on videos so i pray you see this... Wow i never knew you are autistic, my 13yr old son has loved watching you for year's ! it's been our thing to watch you're videos together. For the last 2yrs he has been severely bullied and beaten at school that resulted in him trying to take his life, I've pulled him out of school but he now feels like he doesn't know what to do with his life and doesn't have a purpose so the look of disbelief and excitement on my son's face when you said you're autistic made me cry and I'll never forget ! Kevin you just gave my baby boy hope in the darkest time of his life so from one stranger to the next THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart ❤️
I also love the snakes that are different, and care about their quality of life. I see you talking about that, i cant wrap my head around the snakes living in a tiny dark box with paper only, how can you not care about them? What qualiry of life is that.? Please explain as the Kevin in the videos seems like such a caring and lovely man. All the smakes deserve enclosures and attention, not just the unique ones. I just dont understand it.
You remind me SO much of this Eye Dr i knew once upon a time. Its crazy...the mannerisms, voice, general appearance, way of sounding like you know more of the details than you do (but still know what youre doing)....honestly, over the past few months since youve started posting again i just cant shake the thought that you must be related, somehow...distantly. No? Whatever....im going to tell myself this story bc i like it!
You and Andy make awesome video's, now its fun to watch you again! (I didnt say what i wanted to say, but i know you know what i mean without saying it ).😅❤
Hello Kevin, luv ur videos and very educational. My ball pythons prolapse went away on its own, he is very healthy and hungry all the time. Thanks to ur prolapse videos.
I have found the best way to show homo vs Herero is by the use of light switches…one row of switches for each parent. If the baby has two ‘on’ switches (inherited the gene from both parents) it’s homozygous…if the baby has an on and an off, it’s heterozygous. The light switch board works great for demonstrations.
I like this channel, and I watch it frequently. This is a good illustration of how exposure to the reptile industry has changed my philosophy on the hobby, though. In my ideal world morphs would be few and far between, I think it flies in the face of the whole "invisible ark" concept of reptile conservation when wild type "normal" animals are hard to find and all contain random DNA from morph breeding projects past, and the most available examples of a species in captivity are all super double sack het for lightbulb. That's just what I feel in my heart, though. I dont want any laws coming after you morph breeding folks.
Yes looking forward to all these updates...especially the boa.....mutants are definitely a thing some people dont take into consideration when breeding...im prepared...once my girl gets better
Kevin, can you please post more Colubrid content?!?! I would love to hear you talk about different colubrids and how their genetics work. Pythons are neat and all, but a nice long colubrid video would be a nice change of pace and some of us can hear your expertise on some colubrids as well!! Thanks for entertaining this idea. 😎🐍
I love egg hatching time! Isn’t there a way to repair the digestive tract of the snake? I am just asking. I hope little Elmo’s eyes will be just fine when he sheds!
Great information, as usual! Thanks! I wanted to give a bit of feedback. At a couple of points Kevin is getting serious and explaining something and he lowers his voice. The back ground music seems to get really loud and it's harder to hear Kevin. Ha! Maybe I'm just showing my age... Anyway, I think there's a new contender for the fan favorite 🐍. Look out, Snarfles, Elmo is coming for your job!!🐍❤️
Totally off topic question, but is there any chance that in the future, you might work on breeding some dwarf and super dwarf lines? I saw one Jampea cross on the website, and I'm hoping it means you've got a project going. I would absolutely love to own a retic, but I do not, and probably never will, have the resources to care for a fully grown adult. A super dwarf, though? That's within my means. I think that goes for a lot of other hobbyist reptile keepers, too! Considering how many fake dwarf and super dwarf retics pop up on Morphmarket, it can be hard to find a breeder with absolutely bulletproof credentials like NERD. And as much as I appreciate Reach Out Reptiles, I would love to be able to support NERD and throw as much money at Kevin as I can. Plus, with the number of different morphs you have in the king size variety, I bet you could introduce new morphs into the fun size market over the course of a few years. I have no idea what the logistics and resources this kind of undertaking would require, obviously, so there's a good chance I sound like an ignorant whiny pissbaby asking santa for the latest and greatest new toy fad, but hey, a girl can dream.
Omgoodness he's adorable! It's actually a cool thing that disabilities happen in the animals. Some people may think that's bad but we do educational presentations. Some of the kids we work with are disabled and it makes them feel better to know they're not alone. I hope that makes sense. If you let Elmo go, we'd love to get him. We'd love to get a snake from you.
I can’t name one person who is “perfect” but you are wonderful and I agree with your assessment of animals. What is this membership? (I’m quite rubbish at computers so I hope you make it simple)
I’m defective as well. I’ve owned two companies/businesses in life and was very successful then went to the wrong doctor after an accident . I became addicted to the pain meds he prescribed. I’m recovered now, but have lost so much. Thankfully it was all material and not my beautiful family. I need a companion…and I’d love one who isn’t perfect…just like me.
Lol! Andy getting tagged - baby snek: "WU-PAH! SNEAK ATTACK!!" 😂😂 Kevin, you are NOT stupid, and speaking as someone from a family that has a whole bunch of neurodiversity - we prefer the term 'neurosparkly' instead of 'not normal'. It's those differences that give people their personality quirks and often become the things we love most about them; those quirks and differences are how they get their sparkle that makes them unique. So you're not 'abnormal' or 'stupid' you're neurosparkly! 😂 If you don't mind me asking, were you diagnosed as an adult or child? My nephew was diagnosed very young (before his teens), and although he obviously struggles at times, his autism is/has always been just a part of who he is. However, I know some people who are being diagnosed in their 30s/40s, and it's really knocked them for six, so they become very ashamed of their sparkles. You seem semi-comfortable with it, though, although that could be because you know we already love you, sparkles and all! ❤😂
Clint and Kevin have helped me understand how genetics cause varying physical manifestations better through a couple videos on snake breeding than my biology professors ever did 💀
A family friend has breed a albino Australian Inland Thi Pan. But it's skin has the lightest shade of pink through that white skin. He wouldn't let me take photos of it😂. His been offered a hundred and twenty thousand euros for it🤯. 3 years ago he breed a two-headed female Australian Red Belly Black snake. That's thriving and each head eats fine. His got great luck for only breeding for 8 years.
"the life of a human is always so much more important than nature and the environment and animals, and I'm kinda having a problem with that" 😂😂 i second that.
Whoa! Didn’t think I’d be stumbling into another person on the spectrum like me! I mean, I’m always happy to meet people like myself! I really want a snake when I’m older
I know im late to this video, but i cant for the life of me watch beyond the first minute. Im sure im wrong, but i hope the poor little snake made it. Either way, thanks for making very informative videos guys!
I had no idea that you were on the spectrum! It explains why you don't like to go to cons very much. Way overstimulating. I appreciate your honesty very much. When Brian posted about his struggles with anxiety, that was the day that I subscribed to his channel. The animals are great, but I also enjoy getting to know the humans who care about them.

@@JK-vy8vh I don't complain about it, but I also don't glorify it like it's a good thing.
Much appreciated and I will show my yard off soon. It’s very wild here. I am all about it.
In the academic literature a world view where the value of the non human animal is valued like humans are is called ecocentrism.
I'm a state away from you; the heat the last few days are is HORRIBLE! Can't imagine what it's like there with all the heat from the lamps/incubators/etcetc. Good news is the little guy/gal will have the best of life/best chance with you guys taking care of them!
Thank you!!
Thank you so much!
I appreciate your words.
Hi. SNARFLES was born here, he has a cleft lip and he has quite the life as we live him dearly!
@@NewEnglandReptile Thank you for that clarification. I completely mistook him for Sylvester - I went back into videos and checked. Is there any update for Sylvester?
11:22 I kind of have a problem with that too Kevin.
Thanks!
You can click the “join” button below the video! There is membership levels for every budget!
the way poor elmo was flopping when kevin was yappin about subs/memberships omg
Andy is doing such a amazing job... Thank you Kevin for the free knowledge...
Thank you!!!
Cheers!
Yessssssssss
My bp bel's irises are partially clear which makes them look half pink from a distance and you can see zoomed in that it's because you can see tiny veins and the clear spot in each iris just look white.
The vet said it was just a birth defect. Unfortunately we also noticed he had cataracts and they will eventually cause him to go blind. We've not noticed a single difference.
That is interesting but I bet u it will continue to do well!!
Kevin you are endearing. Sending much love and light from here. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤎🤍🩶
Very kind!
Thank you for not culling the snake that has eye mutations
Absolutely knew we had more in common than just the love of reptiles! Love finding out you are autistic because I am too! Always loved how you explain/teach things! So much easier to learn from you, kudos! Keep it up!
As much as I love the bubblegum videos, Andy has been doing awesome with putting these together. Snarfles is gonna have to compete with Elmo for attention now.
Also, did you ever get the letter I sent you back in mid-May? I suggested doing memberships, I see Andy is on top of it. 🥰
I hope the other retic can recover without long term problems.
And that heat wave was intense! 🥵
Yes I did!!!! Thank you. Very kind!!!!!!!❤
I love your page i found you from watching brian barczyk vlogs. I didnt know you had autism.. i already love your videos but now they are more special... i have 2 boys 15 and 13 that have Autism and seeing someone doing what they love and functioning gives me hope for my boys! Thank you for all you do.
Its hot here east of Cut-n-Shoot too, Even with the rain. the scorpions are coming inside, found 2 in the kitchen this week :)
I'm sorry to hear about the birth defects in the clutches!! Hope everyone at NERD is doing well. Stay safe and have a nice day Kevin!!🤘🤘
Thank you! You too!
Most of the time, I don't even know what to do with me either!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂 I appreciate your videos!!! You're awesome👍! Don't stop believin! 😀😀😀 Love you!
You're the best!
Kevin, you are just a treasure to this industry. Thank you for everything you do, and are.
Since you care for all of your animals, why not start a " sponsor program" for these special animals so we Nerd fans could help pay for their care? I would definitely do that❤
That’s an idea too. So much going on I get lost!!!!
I would love a blind snake to show children that animals have things wrong can live ok
Snake Discovery has a blind rainbow boa (not even any eye sockets) named Mad No-Eyed Moody. Check him out too ❤️
They deserve a chance even if they are different!! You’re a good man Kevin!! Elmo looks like Snarfles with those googlely eyes!!🧡🧡🧡
Aww Elmp is so sweet looking 😍
I would love to adopt him! I hope he becomes a brother for Snarfles!
Kevin just seems like such a chill dude. Im such a sucker for medical info related to reptiles, all of this is super valuable to reptile keepers
I hope Elmo can get his eyes back and working. Im super curious how retic breeders can sell all 20ish babies from each clutch, and all those babies from several clutches. I would worry there wouldnt be a big market for such care-intensive snakes. I love retics with all my heart, but i cant give them the space they deserve, so ill stick with my super dwarfs
Very kind, thank you.
I'm adoring anomaly Elmo. AMF amused by your getting slimed
Haha thanks!
@@NewEnglandReptile lol no, thank you
Listening to you talk about the snake morphs as someone who got REALLY into identifying fox morphs was FASCINATING
Can anyone tag NERD/Kevin ?
1:52 don’t touch your mouth or anything on your face or any surface after and during handling a reptile. In this case the eggs, SALMONELLA 😢😢
Kevin your the master of snake genetics. There is no simple answer
Very kind. Appreciated.
(I didnt say what i wanted to say, but i know you know what i mean without saying it ).😅❤
Glad you like them! Wink!
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Beautiful snakes, luv the colors and patterns.
Agreed!
You are absolutely awesome the way you care for your animals & love the way you explain everything ❤
This was such a good video Kevin almost made me breed retics
Hello Kevin, luv ur videos and very educational. My ball pythons prolapse went away on its own, he is very healthy and hungry all the time. Thanks to ur prolapse videos.

I get it... 98° F is crazy for the northeast... But here in Texas.😂
I bet, the humidity makes the air thick.
Andy, I think little Elmo there is perfect for Scarlet.
Thx you for your tips and advice on all this
I never understand what Kevin is saying, but I find it enjoyable regardless :)
Great video again I am so on your wave length I am old now 78 keep at lot animal and still do just love your thinking .
I need to come by when they're bigger, they need hugs!!
Can’t afford a membership but I at least let those ads play for you brother. Hope things get better 🤗
I appreciate that. Haaa haaaaaaaa. Thank you!
Yes looking forward to all these updates...especially the boa.....mutants are definitely a thing some people dont take into consideration when breeding...im prepared...once my girl gets better
I definitely want updates on Elmo!!
SNARFLES #2
Great video as always
Great video UK 🇬🇧 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
You did a event at Charming fair farm recently and wanted to go so bad but I had to work.
Maybe Snarfles was having a good time??🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
Snarfles has the Elvis lip thing going on hahah
Yes he goes! I’ll tell him!
That’s interesting and noted thank you!!!
So many gorgeous bebes. Thanks for making this vid! 👍
Is there any update on Elmo?
Omgoodness he's adorable! It's actually a cool thing that disabilities happen in the animals. Some people may think that's bad but we do educational presentations. Some of the kids we work with are disabled and it makes them feel better to know they're not alone. I hope that makes sense. If you let Elmo go, we'd love to get him. We'd love to get a snake from you.
Thank you for the kind words 💜
I can’t name one person who is “perfect” but you are wonderful and I agree with your assessment of animals.
What is this membership? (I’m quite rubbish at computers so I hope you make it simple)
There should be a little “join” button below this video. It’s all through TH-cam
Please share the progress
What is your book you wrote? I want to read it.
Kevin, is there anyway you can fix that
I’m defective as well.
I have such empathy for Elmo, I would actually love to purchase him and give him a forever home
Hey, where’s the updates on Elmo and the kinked snake? Are they both okay???
Lol! Andy getting tagged - baby snek: "WU-PAH! SNEAK ATTACK!!" 😂😂
Kevin, you are NOT stupid, and speaking as someone from a family that has a whole bunch of neurodiversity - we prefer the term 'neurosparkly' instead of 'not normal'. It's those differences that give people their personality quirks and often become the things we love most about them; those quirks and differences are how they get their sparkle that makes them unique. So you're not 'abnormal' or 'stupid' you're neurosparkly! 😂
If you don't mind me asking, were you diagnosed as an adult or child? My nephew was diagnosed very young (before his teens), and although he obviously struggles at times, his autism is/has always been just a part of who he is. However, I know some people who are being diagnosed in their 30s/40s, and it's really knocked them for six, so they become very ashamed of their sparkles. You seem semi-comfortable with it, though, although that could be because you know we already love you, sparkles and all! ❤😂
Just to let you know after watching this video I joined, so now I'm an official NERD!!
Ayyye! We appreciate it
Very kind!
Clint and Kevin have helped me understand how genetics cause varying physical manifestations better through a couple videos on snake breeding than my biology professors ever did 💀
Sorry for all the typos---it was a long day at work. (Jan Griffiths).
I have a blind hatchling that refuses to eat without assistance. Healthy otherwise, very active, 4 mo in ill keep tryin
I’d stick to it, sometimes it takes awhile before they will feed without help.
@@NewEnglandReptile hope so! Thanks!
Will elmo be available in the future or will yall be keeping him?
I would love to support a Patreon!
"the life of a human is always so much more important than nature and the environment and animals, and I'm kinda having a problem with that" 😂😂 i second that.
So what happened with the first little snake? The eyes werent right?
Have any of you heard of the Scandinavian Boa on you tube here?
Whoa! Didn’t think I’d be stumbling into another person on the spectrum like me! I mean, I’m always happy to meet people like myself! I really want a snake when I’m older
We are happy to have you!
I know im late to this video, but i cant for the life of me watch beyond the first minute. Im sure im wrong, but i hope the poor little snake made it. Either way, thanks for making very informative videos guys!
I wanna visit NERD so bad! 🎉🎉🎉
❤ love Elmo ❤
The life of a human is equal to the life of an animal not more important . Life and wellbeing of any living creature is precious.
I have an issue with humans being more important than any animals too. We could not survive without them and they deserve our respect and support at all times❤
