I've seen rubbing alcohol used to remove snakes from eating themselves. Could a drop of rubbing alcohol in front of the bite where they could smell it help?
You absolutely never looked like a fool, Kevin. Anyone who has even a tiny level of understanding of animal behavior can see you are incredible at working with these guys. I legit had tears in my eyes at the end. Well done! Keep these videos coming!
In first 6 minutes I'm dieing laughing! I'd say the gecko won ROFLMAO and continued winning as he stubbornly held on. Best view of how gorgeous that guy is ,is while he's gripped onto you. Only thing more hilarious would of been if he went after your toes.

Hi Kevin & Donnie, That was an outstanding video! It's great to see someone show what it takes to get these little guys socialized. I especially found it educational as well as very entertaining. I hope to have at least a couple of Tokay's someday. I first heard about them as a child. Seeing Kevin have an imperfect taming moment makes me feel a little bit better about when I have the occasional " oh my gosh I am definitely not making the gains I was going for and I'm going to need to modify the tactics here " moment. Even the best animal tamers and trainers in the world have days like this and individual animals that just don't respond in the way that they were initially expecting. The key is they keep working at it and adapting and adjusting based on what they learn from the individual interactions. There's absolutely nothing like trying to show taming to another human being or filming taming to ensure that something just doesn't go the way that you meant it to. Whether it's from the environment that you're working in being inappropriate, or simply having to split your attention. You see here that Kevin switched from gentle taming to restraint taming. That's sort of a last resort, but when you're dealing with an animal that's gone into extreme panic, restraining them in a very gentle manner and allowing them to eventually realize that even though they are extremely vulnerable right now that they are not actually being harmed is an effective technique when you are dealing with super high volatility animals or when you've had a mishap and accidentally triggered a potentially negative experience. Nobody ever wants to be having to switch to this mode, but it's an important tool to keep in the toolbox when taming.

Awesome to see! Tokays have always been my favorite gecko. This makes me wanna get another one to try and socialize. The tokay I use to have was named Satan. He would leave anyone who went in his cage leaking blood everywhere. My buddy tried to pick him up with welding gloves one time and he bruised his finger through the leather glove from a bite. He was definitely a special lizard.
I had the most incredible interaction with some tokays at the Canadian Breeders Expo in Toronto in Sept. Rachel from The Reptile Shop has the tamest tokays I've ever seen. Lol I love these so much, thank you for suffering for our education. They are SO beautiful, but so feisty, but seeing a wild caught slowly calm like that makes a captive bred seem so easy to work on. Also never feel bad looking like a fool Kevin! You make us feel normal when you struggle like we do, so thank you for showing the struggle and the improvement!
All that you do including these desensitization videos is just GREAT... Giving away your knowledge and experience with these animals is a true delight to watch.. 🔥🔥Thank you & Keep Going
Hello Kevin- I have only seen a couple of your videos, but I am impressed by your honesty and sense of professionalism- it shows, that you really care about the well-being of the animals. This video was an excellent example of that. Thank you for educating all of us.
A real fun and informational piece today! The tokay jumping on the camera at the end was just precious. Although, anyone else catch the spider(?) crawling under Kevin's leg @11:05 it made me panic 😂 NOPE
Tokay Geckos are beautiful. Horrible how some people treat them. Loved seeing Kevin working to win their trust that he will not harm them. A bite now and then is no big deal. The reward of having earned the trust of the reptile is worth it.
Youv done sooooo much for the hobby kev ! 🦾🙌🏻 I’m coming up on 40 born and raised in NE , traveled the circuit in the 80’s and 90’s with my uncles , reptiles shows and gun shows 🙌🏻 god bless America ! God bless you kev , again for all of the innovation! Sooo much respect brotha 🤙🏻🫡
This was so interesting to watch, I'd love to see more videos like this where you explain what you're doing, why and where they come from etc. The way you watch and take in their natural behaviour over the years and find ways to "use" it - done so myself (to a degree) with all kinds of animals/reptiles and insects which have helped me a lot in different situations. Thank you so much for this educational video!
I suggest duct taping your thumbs to the palms of your hands the next time you handle this tokay👍😅👍. I love socialization and handling videos. They are an excellent resource for the correct way to interact with animals. Patience, patience, patience. In the end, this tokay finally chilled some and you put him back on a positive note. That is very important for people to know. This defensive tokay may have kicked your butt...actually, your thumb... but you gained the first step to a budding trust which is priceless. Sorry about your thumb - much respect to you as usual.
I love these longer socialization videos. Keep doing them. Funny you should mention horse training. When a horse is thinking during a training session it will lick and chew. There are a lot of horse trainers out there. One man, Steve Young, uses similar techniques. Thank you Kevin.
This video couldn't have come out at a more perfect time! I've been looking into care and taming for tokays because I want to get a baby one at some point in the near future.
I love these videos. It has helped me with my collection of reptiles. I am also interested in tarantulas and spiders. Any chance we might get some video's with some tarantulas? I know you have some great species in your store. Keep up the good work!
I got nailed by my leachie like that once. I thought it hurt pretty badly until she did that same thing that tokay did where the jaw muscles tighten enough to pull the eyes in. Gecko bites are no joke.
its not just their micro teeth either its the pressure and sharpness of its entire skull pinning down on your skin like a metal chip clip. theyre such powerful animals even though they fit in your hand
Very very cool. Have to say it was encouraging to see you being temporarily owned by a nervous reptile. Gives us all hope that we can accomplish our most discouraged goals. Thank you for the Sylvester update. I'm totally invested in his outcome. Good or not so good I know you, Kevin, of all people could give him his best fighting chance of not just survival but thriving.
What a absolute beautiful animal. I love tokay geckos and hope to own one someday. Your videos have helped me "rethread" the trust with my beardie. I took her out in my yard in her harness for the first time & she pretty much told me to eff off and unalive myself. I have been following your methods and things are better now than before. Thank you so much.
Really enjoyed this, more please! I had horses and parrots, it reminds me a lot of natural horsemanship, make every encounter a positive experience for the animal.
What a beautiful Geiko…feisty little devil. When I was very around 4, we lived in Hondo, Tx. There were so many horned toads..actually lizards…beautifully patterned guys covered with spines. One day I was sitting on a fence watching a very big one hanging out just below me. Suddenly he grabbed onto my big toe…I think he thought it was a grub. It didn’t hurt but scared me. My Dad tried to get him off, but he hung on for dear life. Had to sit and wait until the fellow decided I wasn’t food after all. I loved those guys so much…there was one that would come out to find me when I came outside. S/he liked head rubs. Little kid fingers can do that…I can testify the spines and sharp. Sadly, they are now endangered. The San Antonio Zoo has a breeding program to reintroduce them to the wild.
Tokek Tokek has the most amazing tokay socializing videos on the platform. It you want to tame down your tokay, check him out. It'll blow your mind. He makes tokays look like any other reptile pretty much. The Reptile Whisperer, a very old channel, is a lady who has tokays that even her daughter can handle and chill out with. Can't wait to see Kevin's go at it here.
One technique Tokek uses is to take a folded up napkin or paper towel, folded to give it some thickness, and allow it gecko to bite it, sort of satiating the geckos desire to bite, in order to make it feel more secure, having exercised it's defensive tendencies to a substantial degree. Kevin seems a bit out of his wheelhouse here with the tokays lol. His strategy seems to be to give the tokay Stockholm syndrome 😂
Thanks for doing this! Ive mentioned it before because there are no videos on socializing tokays and I knew if anyone could show it it would be kevin. It's great to see these beautiful animals in a calm/ calmer state. Cant wait to see updates on the display enclosures for some of your animals. Im sure the enclosures will be amazing and being able to see your beautiful animals on display will be awesome. Just a question, how do you think certain animals behavior may change or take time to adjust since its a new and different thing? I know they know you guys so that will be comforting to them. Have a great day
This was a hilarious video. But it's clear that it actually paid off -- it took quite a while of tiring the gecko out, but once he was no longer able to flee or fight, he had no choice but to sit there and think instead. With some animals, especially wild caught animals with traumatic experiences, sometimes that's the only way you can do it. Scared animals would rather react now and think later than risk getting eaten, so sometimes you gotta wait for them to get tired of reacting to get them to actually engage with you.
Tokays are hands down the coolest looking Gecks out their. I think once we have solid captive bred programs out there, and they become more tractible to work with, they could be everybit as big as the ball python industry.
Nice job Kevin. It's great to see a viable way to communicate with tokay brain. I have been considering a tokay for years and while I don't intend on handling them much it's good to see that you can move them from one viv to another without manhandling them. I was leaning towards slide doors otherwise between enclosures.😂
Such a beautiful lizard! I have heard that they bite quite hard but I didn't know anything about their barks. I found this session interesting ( and a bit funny too ) but it's heartwarming to see an animal gaining trust for a human . I hope Sylvester will live too! I feelt so sorry for him when i first saw him but i know that you guys will do what you can for him, good luck with him and with taming that little bity gecko ( so adorable ❤️)!
Tokay 1, Kevin 0 😂 I do respect how Tokays can bring some of the greatest reptile minds to "their knees". They are amazing creatures. I have a cbb girl and I rarely see her tongue flick but when I do, I'm like a kid in a candy shop. I get so freaking excited. Nothing like my crested/chahoua hybrid that tongue flicks all the time. You have to earn it. One additional comment...that slow head turn when a tokay looks at you is quite unnerving lol. Loved this video ❤ I actually talked with you about my tokay at AnimalCon so I was excited to see this video come up on my feed.
Another amazing video guys! Those geckos are very beautiful and I would love to learn more about other kinds of geckos!!! I didn’t think you looked like a fool at all!!! Keep up the fantastic work Kevin! 😄💙🐬🐍🐊🫶🏼
Oh my gosh the splat sound when it hit the ground hahaha. Great video again guys. I appreciate you listening to feedback and doing more animal education videos! Tokays are a wonderful example that animals are still, well, animals and deserve to be respected. (Even if theyre tiny but mighty!) My question is could these little guys sustain injuries from falling? I'm sure if so Kevin would have addressed it, but I'm just curious.
i know mine will readily jump from locations 6 feet high to the floor to get where he wants to go. But I am here learning how to not get messed up. I took in a CB tokay from a house that actively had cats opening the door to his cage and him hiding from them. He has the worst lockjaw I have ever dealt with. He held onto my hand for 4 hours one time...and it seems the solution is to just let it happen and show you arent going to hurt it...

@@debbiestumm511same, can't stand puppies or dogs under like 3 years old, I have alot of sensory problems and young dogs trigger every single one of them! Old dogs have my heart though I love them
Lol I love these so much, thank you for suffering for our education.
Hello Kevin-
I have only seen a couple of your videos, but I am impressed by your honesty and sense of professionalism- it shows, that you really care about the well-being of the animals. This video was an excellent example of that. Thank you for educating all of us.
That snake at the bottom to Kevin's left look quite interesting
A real fun and informational piece today! The tokay jumping on the camera at the end was just precious. Although, anyone else catch the spider(?) crawling under Kevin's leg @11:05 it made me panic 😂 NOPE
Tokay Geckos are beautiful. Horrible how some people treat them. Loved seeing Kevin working to win their trust that he will not harm them. A bite now and then is no big deal. The reward of having earned the trust of the reptile is worth it.
You nailed it ! I couldn't have said it better myself !
Kevin shows his love for animals that's enough for me to say he's probably a decent human
Thank you. K
I’m a simple man. I see tokay, I like.
Kind words. K
This is some of my favourite type of content you guys do. Longer form, passing on skills, unedited for most part. Its great.
I could watch tokays handle Kevin all day
I look forward to these videos awesome stuff man keep them coming. I always look forward to them when I have time to view them. Great stuff:P
I love these educational videos. Especially as someone who works in a vet office. Your style is what I try to do for the animals I see. Please post.
Haaa haaaa tape my thumbs. Hmmmm k
Thank you for this video!
I love these longer socialization videos. Keep doing them.
Funny you should mention horse training. When a horse is thinking during a training session it will lick and chew. There are a lot of horse trainers out there. One man, Steve Young, uses similar techniques.
Thank you Kevin.
Really enjoyed watching this video, you have so much love and respect for these geckos. You actually have so much respect for all lives.😘😘💖💖🙏🙏
Thank you so much! K
Great video. I love today geckos. I have a crazy gargoyle who likes to bite. I'm going to try this . Love these training videos. ❤
love these videos; the socialization is so important and hard for many to do. seeing the examples of how to do it is really fun
I'd like to imagine all the reptiles are just sitting in their enclosures and enjoying the show =D
"look guys a newcomer! This is gonna be good"
Great video, like the longer format 👍
I like seeing how you work when you have to speed up the process. Even under high stress, the progress is amazing.
This video couldn't have come out at a more perfect time! I've been looking into care and taming for tokays because I want to get a baby one at some point in the near future.
Another great video to help understand threads of trust and the process! Love the content guys! 🤙🏽
Appreciate it! K
Uno, deuce, trece, wait for the ending. Thanks NERD.
Another great video, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! K
Tokays are gorgeous! Sorry you got bit. You have a lot of patience with your animals, it's lovely to see.
Such a cute little thing, that noise he makes is adorable.
You are the Reptile whisperer x
At 2:00 in I'm laughing thinking to myself "NOT THE BALLS!" 🤣 Suckers latch on and don't let go lol
Tokay said I told ya guy NO BUENO lmao hahaha
love behavior socialization vids .
nice job
They're really cute when they're not trying to kill you 😂
This was an awesome video. Thanks for everything you do, Kevin! ❤️🔥🤘
My pleasure!! K
@@LukeMcGuireoides Whatever works lol. As long as the animal is not being harmed or seriously threatened.
I’ve tamed many but I was showing a crash course version. The longer form may bore everyone. K
Im happy to see one of my favorite reptile keep up the good work
This is probably one of your coolest videos ever. I love It! Greetings from Germany.
Have a great day
You're amazing, Kevin! You have a sincere love for these animals, and they can feel that. ❤
I think once we have solid captive bred programs out there, and they become more tractible to work with, they could be everybit as big as the ball python industry.
and the tame, sweet ones i have seen are just ridiculously precious and beautiful. they have the capability to be even more chill than leopard geckos
Love the longer videos and showing the good the bad and the ugly!
4:01 again that cow retic is super spotted i love it
Nice job Kevin.
I really hope to see more videos like these. A "Taming the Untamable" series would be out of this world.
I do admire your patience & tolerance.
This was very fascinating! Thank you!
