I love that when Emily gets really tired she's just like "i gotta teach, I must teach about All The Things, here's some math, here's some zygodactal, learn, learn my eager students"
Now I know why the math teacher worked so hard to teach multiplying fractions. If I'd known it was to understand snake breeding, I'd have paid more attention in high school. Congrats to Lilly and Joy on their beautiful clutches.
I love that Emily gets so excited about eggs. She's seen dozens of eggs like this is her first egg laying. I love you Emily and Ed. Love your videos. 😘
I’m so eggcited about them and I didn’t even used to like snakes and have already watched several hatching seasons but I seriously cannot wait til they all hatch!
I love how Aziraphale ends up contributing to the rainbow clutch. Also, I love how Emily has completely missed the mark on the spelling. How long until she gets enough fans recommending she read Good Omens as a result of this snake?
I actually think the original owner wrote it differently, I don't know if it was a mistake or intentional but I'm pretty sure Emily is using the spelling that came with the snake
It could be that the person that shipped the hognoses to her spelled the name wrong too, so she’s going from that. Oh people have been recommending they read the book/watch the series! Hey, actually, cool middle ground: There’s a version of the audio book where Tennant reads Crowley and Sheen reads Aziraphale. So you can have the book version but still hear Tennant and Sheen “drunk rambling”😂
Aw I literally just today learned what rainbow clutch would mean in this context from a video about the tv show Bluey. I didn't think anything of it when Emily drew the pattern but I just realized. Idk anything about Good Omens though so maybe I'm still missing some context and you don't mean that the way I thought you did.
I love that even tired Emily is still so dedicated to educating viewers that she worked in a mini math and vocabulary lesson that was also a mini science lesson too 😂
Dear Emily and Ed(d?), please do take a real vacation sometimes. You can pre-record videos or let some of your trusted workers do it for a month. Outside USA it is seen unhealthy and unbeliavable to not have vacation really disconnected from work. If it feels hard just take a week or two off when you trust your staff. You need to take care of yourselves ❤
They pretty much already do that. Notice the dates on the egg boxes? Laid on 5/1, that's one and half month ahead. They also have someone taking care of the snakes in the warehouse. They've been slowly delegating their tasks to staff as well. So I'd say we don't need to worry too much as I'm sure they know when to take a break :D
the last time they took a vacation, they spent the whole time filming, editing, and I imagine, coordinating and managing the facility over phone and computer. I think they're just intense people who don't know how to not work
Also, it'd be really fun to see the other staff try to make egg videos or something similar! We could not only get to know the staff, but see their excitement towards the eggs as well!
Hognoses made me start loving snakes at age 36. Lavender hognoses made me want a hognose as a pet. Budget led me to get a toffeeglow conda, which is my super cute and exploratory boy Curious George. I love him and he has added a fun and interesting new dynamic to life.
Congrats, sounds like me except I doubt my ole man will ever let me have a snake in the house. Hope you continue to enjoy your boy & maybe the lavenders will go down in price some so you can get one of those too lol. I can’t wait to see if they get lavender supercondas!
owls and ospreys are also zygodactyl! Theyre weird zygodactyl tho, because they can actually have one of the back toes face forward _or_ back, based on what they need
The word you were looking for when describing that you had a good likelihood, but not certain of getting toffee supercondas, is stochastic (the ch makes a hard sound, like in school). That refers to processes that are random but with predictable bounds and probability. I learned the term when I was studying physics, but it would also apply here.
Thanks for the rainbow clutch, Emily! Happy Pride month to my fellow rainbow folks! Our son's speech therapist wished my wife and I a happy pride month the other day- it was adorable! 🥰
Never too much information! But I hope you don't have many of these very long days, I know you guys are still young 'uns but overworking can really knacker your health. As someone who did that very thing, and has been paying for it for a couple of decades now, I know being self-employed - and you guys have the responsibility of being employers too - how easy it is, and it'd break my heart to see either of you loose the energy and spark that makes you both so special. Much love, take good care of yourselves!
I just love how you guys went from breeding a few snakes in your spare bedroom making you tube tutorial to full time breeders, zoo keepers, large pet store owners and our favorite program presentors over what seems like so little time. I mean its been a few years but it has passed so quickly. A few years ago I was scared of snakes and now I wouldn’t say I could own one but definetly touch one. Its been quite a process. Congrats Emily and Ed for being people who prove you can fulfill dreams if you just go for it (and work sooooo hard).
Just remember, tho - the odds for eggs is per egg, not per clutch. Emily and Ed often talk about how they “should” have gotten X result because there were Y eggs, and that’s sort of the pretty textbook math result, but reality isn’t quite as pretty. So for the superconda lavender eggs, if Mike TV is the dad, it’s not that half the eggs will or should be superconda lavender, it’s that each egg has a 50/50 chance. But you could still end up with all the eggs being superconda het lavender! It would be weird, but not impossible. (This is also why they won’t be able to say for certain who the dad is, since they’re both superconda. Ideally it’s an experiment that should have been done with one regular hognose, because THAT would have been a way to know who the dad “really” was. Here, they’re going to guess based on the odds, but it’s possible that either dad could produce the entire clutch pattern with Lily. Just because it’s longer odds with one of them doesn’t make it impossible!)
It’s almost 8:30 pm here where i am, but I totally relate to your comment. I’m frequently awake at the 3am hour. Hope you fell asleep eventually! PS- Loopy Emily is the best. 😜
Like what? 3 minutes of Emily doing match just taught me more than 1 year of match in school. I finally understand how multiplying fractions works, I think.

I really appreciate that little math portion! I really suck at math and have honestly thought about snake breeding someday in the future. so, seeing you do that math portion was very helpful!!

@@starharts I love that, apologies, I haven’t caught up with Snake Discovery in a while so I'm not up-to-date in all the snakes they've got at the moment in their facilities
I never thought I would find math interesting, but I'll be honest, it's fascinating learning about the different odds of different types of babies. It's awesome that you don't treat your viewers like idiots but actually treat us like people who can and *want* to learn the genuine science. Even my partners are noticing that I'm starting to geek out over snake species (and other reptiles) since starting to watch your channel, and I love it.
Emily has great math skills she should be a science teacher that uses they math skills to teach about snakes. Great job on making great content for kids👍😊😃😄👍
I'm an adult and I have learned LOTS of stuff from Emily! She's a great teacher to everyone. I had a Science teacher like her waaaaaay back, and she was who got me interested in Science. Unfortunately, I didn't have the math skills and had to become a professional artist.....but I often regret not being pushed harder to understand math.
The whole reason this channel got started was because Emily did educational programs at libraries and parties about reptiles and then told people to go to her youtube for more videos for content she couldn't fit into the program.

Your feet drawings, especially the birds, got me thinking (they all look pretty good BTW). Osprey have the coolest bird feet IMO. Not only are they zygodactyl, they can rotate their outer toe on each foot to face forward or backwards, to aid in their catching and holding of fish which as everyone is aware, are quite slippery. They are the only raptor that can do this. Plus the underside of their toes has small spines to help grip also. Love them, one of my favorite birds.
It's been too long since I was at school, I had forgotten how to work out probability.... Embarrassed it's so easy 🤣 I'm going to have a lot of fun with maths when I get myself a new ram for my ewes, I have a lot of recessive genes to work out! Thanks Emily 🤣
Hey, I love you guys. Thank you for introducing me into the reptile world. I can’t wait to be able to have my own one day. You’ve really inspired me and taught me more than I could imagine. I hope you guys have a great week!!!
Lavender superconda is my dream snake. I don't have any Snakes. But if I did, that is the one I'd want. I have been watching you guys for years! This is SO exciting!
Another fact about zygodactylous birds: You can get ones which are “semi-zygodactyl” (dunno the proper name) such as ospreys and owls. Their outer most toe on the front is in a position where it can move to be zygodactylous to better grip prey such as fish! You can sometimes see this when looking at them, as their toe sometimes looks like it is pointing straight out to the side! Also, now that you know what zygodactyl feet are, you will always be angry at drawings/toys/other representations of parrots etc that have the feet anisodactyl (3 at the front, 1 at the back)!! You are very welcome for that new minor annoyance! :)
Joy is definitely one of my favorites on the channel now! I just got a little toffeebelly male, so I’m pretty partial to that color mutation. Also love the pride eggs! 🏳️🌈
Id love thiss!! Especially because theyre using all colors of sharpies now. It would make it feel like less of an "oh we have pride flag merch were allies!!" And more like actually supporting. Idk just actions are louder than words (or i guess in this case merch)

You can get ones which are “semi-zygodactyl” (dunno the proper name) such as ospreys and owls.
Woooo 🥳 10 (maybe 11) beautiful eggs, congratulations!!

Over-tired Emily is a joy to watch. And thank you so much for the real-life uses for math.
this is such an exciting and fun video!
Wow, when Emily gets tired she shows off her Geek Power of knowledge! 😂❤ love it!
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SNAKE BABIES!!!!
Joy is definitely one of my favorites on the channel now! I just got a little toffeebelly male, so I’m pretty partial to that color mutation. Also love the pride eggs! 🏳️🌈
If a clutch is laid here in June, you should draw different pride flags on the eggs
Id love thiss!! Especially because theyre using all colors of sharpies now. It would make it feel like less of an "oh we have pride flag merch were allies!!" And more like actually supporting. Idk just actions are louder than words (or i guess in this case merch)

...I get that, but these are also 2 very real ppl, not corporations. They have v real, v visible rainbow edition friends (and employees), even if being straight-passing themselves.
