One of my favourite things about your channel is just how American it is. I’m British so I just sit here nodding along like it’s a presentation while wondering ‘…the fuck is going on over there?’ Like don’t get me wrong we have some wild shit happening over here too, but sometimes I wonder how America is real. Just so much happening all the time.
I saw someone post this same question on instagram and all the girls in the comments just must not have watched the documentary or anything because they thought the only issue was about the sizing. They were like “Why can’t we have stuff for us smaller girls, everyone else gets things for them” that’s not the real problem love. It’s the fast fashion, the racism, the creeps who own the company, the alleged assault… so many issues
..... I know for a fact that there are multiple stores with names likes 1-3-5 where they only carry sizes 1,3, and 5. I've had a lot of health issues and have unfortunately bounced between 70 pounds to 240 (120-140 is my normal weight range and, most importantly, where my team of doctors want me). And yet I never failed to find clothes even when I was so small I couldn't look in a mirror without bursting out into tears. Like, smaller girls obviously can have so many problems, but as someone who has come from both sides, when it comes purely to clothing, the vast majority of smaller women, even those who are naturally incredible petite, short and without much curves to help give the clothes form STILL have miles more choices than your average big vitl
When I was in Italy for an archeological program in college, we visited Florence on the weekend and a lot of the girls were so excited to go into Brandy. I walked in, saw it was one size, and walked out. I kind of regretted not getting a T-shirt to commemorate Florence on my visit, so the next weekend, I asked some of the girls who were going there to get me a shirt and gave them 20€ for it just in case. They came back with a Brandy Melville Florence crop top that cost the full 20. I wasn’t excited about it, but thanked them and wore it anyway. When I say this shirt got a hole in it after 2 WASHES (hand-washed, since we were on location at a villa)…I didn’t even wear it while at the dig, just to sleep and for downtime! The girls who were excited about Brandy all bought matching necklaces, and they all had green stains on their necks by the and of the dig that wouldn’t come off. Even if you’re okay with the fat phobia, lack of representation, and shady owners (which you shouldn’t be), the quality is not there for the high prices!!! I’ve had shirts from H&M and Target that have lasted for years for half the price 🙄
You literally need to have a specific skeletal size and shape for it to fit it's ridiculous but the girls that it does fit for some reason think they're special for it and they keep buying that stuff and keeping them in business 💔
I'm gen z and sometimes I don't think we think of gen z broadly enough. Yes, a lot of us are politically active, care about environmental issues, and shop sustainably. However, that doesn't mean ALL of us do that and in fact brands like Brandy Melville and Zara rely on the fact that every generation will have it girls who are "too cool" to give a shit. The tides are definitely starting to turn but based on the amount of clothes that are in the ocean due to fast fashion, the change is not happening fast enough.
I always wanted clothing from Brandy as a teenager, but was always too big to fit into it. Now knowing how shady they are I’m glad I didn’t fit their clothes so that I never gave them any of my money! Also, your videos are always very entertaining and informative! I love them!!
I paid like 90 euros for a BM sweatshirt (without thinking! I was jet lagged!) in Zurich last year…and it fell apart before I got home. I wish I’d spent my money at an actual European brand and not something I could literally get here in California 😅
As a 50 yom. I say Kudos to BM for not bowing down to this BS WOKE culture!!!! And my daughter loves shopping there. Though the lines are sometimes annoying!
I forgot that this company existed after going in a store once in college because a roommate wanted to go. I found the one size thing stupid and unrealistic and didn't make a purchase. They must not have many Midwest locations, because I haven't seen one since.
This is so wild, I had no idea the company was even worse than I thought. But people LOVE to be part of an exclusive in group, if you're the 1% they target and can fit into their clothes, then you're simply not like the other girls
@@tylerbenderrbecause they sized up and we can’t fit it now ? Yes brandy is shady company and I don’t support them. Buts what’s the problem with having a store catered to smaller women? The ‘made in Italy’ label might be misleading. Here in the EU it is allowed to put that label in as long as the last step of production happens in Italy. Eg. a button down shirt is made in china but they sew on the buttons in Italy, voila shirt made in Italy. Worst case: they just put the label in in Italy. It is a common technique for wanna be luxury goods because especially Italy and France have that kind of image.
So I’ve never shopped at Brandy Mellville bc I’m 42 years old. But I’ve always been curious about what they sell since I am a fashion freak. I’m so glad I’ve never shopped there and now I never will. I also saw Brandy Hellville and it was a real eye opener👀
I’m not even a huge brandy hater, when I was younger I didn’t fit into a lot of stores smallest size so when I found stuff that fit me there, it was exciting. However, everything I have ever owned from there has fallen apart in some way. I am not rough on clothes, I still wear the Lulu lemon leggings I got in the 5th grade and have made many fast fashion pieces wayyy outlast their normal lifespan but Brandy Melville is genuinely the worst for quality.
It pisses me off how people will still claim bodies like mine aren’t elegant or fashion forward or whatever. Like they truly don’t understand some people physically can’t be below a certain size. I’ve done enough self-work to appreciate and love my body for what it can achieve, but I like fashion too, and so much of the industry is *just* about exclusion. It’s so strange to only make clothing most people can’t even get on their body at all.
I am not from US, so I never heard of the brand. It just looks like clothes in those shops found in seaside cities in Europe, and those are the only places I can digest or accept that, because I think it looks fucking horrible. But if you buy only one piece of clothing in that kind of shop, you are still able to stylize it properly. I died when you said people should go to Walmart and grab little boy undies, because it's exactly what I do when I want to stylize as seaside chick (note: we don't have a sea in my country).

FYI Just because something says "Made in Italy" it doesn't mean ot was actually made in Italy, ita just means that they did the last couple things in Italy, like maybe attaching a button or even just the label. And it's not only company like this that do it, but also high fashion like some years ago they did a exposé about how Armani had all their jeans made in sweatshops in south-east Asia, for like maybe 2 euros and then labeled them as "made in Italy" and sold them for hundreds of euro

In the bathrooms and shit. There's no way this rich weird creep CEO who collected photos of teenagers didn't do something like that 🤮
As a teen I was once told that I totally fit the brandy melville brand (I was very underweight) when shopping with friends. I went there one time and did not get the hype, it was so boring and I felt like it didn't fit anyone
im aussie, and i've only just heard of brandy mellville today. but i think it's yikes™️ only giving xs/s sizing. very 90s and 2000s fashion sizing imo. it reminded me of that dress shop in mean girls where they just sold sizes 0, 2 and 4 or whatever... and they tell regina she's too fat after eating those kalteen dieting bars
I remember when my highschool friends took me here and i just felt like i was looking through someones Grandparents closet. It's so weird and it just screams old money aesthetic.
I've been to Chill Since 93 pizza place in West London, I was the only person in there, food was minging, and i wondered why there was a rack of cheap looking tee shirts on the wall. It all felt like a money laundering business, not a legit restaurant.
Because consumers have even fewer values that corporations. If only there were some way to prohibit labor violations and predatory employment practices.
I'm a 42 year old dude who's never heard of brandy melville but i'm getting inundated with ads for that documentary. I searched the brand name on here just to see what it is (I assumed it would be an actual girl, some sort of tiktok kid or something who started some malaysian sweatshop fast fashion brand.) and your video came up. I have no interest in this subject whatsoever but I just wanted to say you're hilarious and that got me through the video and now I know what Brandy Melville is. Now that I know what brandy Melville is i can move on with my life and push this out of my brain because I don't need it.
Im a 32 years english dude who randomly came across your channel. I have no idea who any of these people in your long form videos are but i find it entertaining as fuck 😂
Seriously. Just like back when I was in high school, I was a 2, sm/m in A&F and so many people were whining about how only ed riddled girls could wear it. Like no, I didn't have an ed and was just fine lol
I literally thought this brand was a MLM of some sort. I don’t get the hype! It’s another old navy from I just saw. THIS is the style people have been pooping their pants over?? My word. I suppose my opinions doesn’t count, since I’m more off a thrift store gal.😂😂
I haven't been in high school in 10 years and it was the same then 😂 something tells me the target demographic could not give 2 shits about fat phobia and racism
Just started watching ur channel (for abt a month lets say) and i really love learning about all the stuff u post. Im not from usa and was not online as a child so this is really interesting. Ur great at explaining as well. Love you ❤️
all the girls in my school wear it and when you ask them if they’ve ever watched the documentary they’ll say, “yes and i don’t care 🙄” like ok way to be a bad person
I looked through the comments real quick to see if anyone brought it up yet but I didn’t see so let me say that only reason I had ever head of Brandy Melville growing up was because of Bethany Mota and she was, at least to me, so sweet and innocent at the time so it’s crazy to hear all this. Idk if anyone else remembers she had like a full on Collab with them. I hope she didn’t go through anything weird with them.
Brandy Melville copied Abercrombie & Fitch’s blueprint. There’s too many parallels - discriminatory hiring practices, non-inclusive sizing, the “All American beauties” / “cool kids” they want to attract, etc. Check out the documentary “White Hot” next- former A&F employees tell similar stories Also, based on what happened with A&F, Brandy Melville is only a few lawsuits away from having to either change their policies or be shut down
Help I have a top from there that I can barely lift my arms all the way up and I don’t even where a bra with it because it’s tight enough on my chest that I don’t have to, btw I’m literally 12 years old and 5’5 and about 130-140 pounds with a 29in waist and a 34in chest
Brandy Melville reminds me of another ethically questionable company that was popular in my teenage years. Anyone who’s anyone, AKA, the young, rich & skinny crowd, wore Abercrombie & Fitch. Nobody knew or cared about the questionable behavior of the CEO & problematic nature of the company. People often cling to status symbols of fashion, partly due to classism, showing “we’re hot enough, can afford these things & we BELONG”
Here’s the thing with Victoria secret though… they say they are inclusive but their xxl underwear I bought when I was a size 18… only just started to fit me at size 10/12… so it’s a complete facade they they are inclusive. At size 18 and xl and xxl underwear fit me in all other brands.
I was a Brandy girl 10 years ago I was the only girl that wasn’t white. I did visual with the other girls.. I’m really thankful for the experience because I did not have any experience in a store and VM. But now i noticed its weird that we had to make photos of customers and sometimes of ourselves,. We never knew what they where doing with it.. After Brandy I worked at Subdued and they did the same as Brandy
I’m a man, so it’s probably just different for me, but I’ve just followed the “Old School European” method of buying clothes Which is that I buy clothes once a year at most but you can get those clothes are going to last me for a decade at least. Maybe more if it’s a sentimental piece and I bother to get it repaired. It’s an expensive up front purchase but it sort of evens out to the same price people spend yearly.
People would stop completely shopping there if there was a comparable brand with a nearly identical aesthetic. There should be, but ethically, of course, since there is a specific market that wants this aesthetic.
@tylerbenderr thank you for the clarification. Where would I be without chronically online girl? Thank you for all the sacrifices you make so people like me can keep up with the important stories of today.
YESS!! I remember checking the subreddit for BM to see what they thought. What I saw was "I mean it's not their fault they promote health 😒" like okay.. we all know what that's code for
People still shop at a&f after their old greg looking ceo said he doesn't want fat people shopping there, I have no doubt that for some people, fatphobia does sell. I don't think in general that most companies do their sizing or whatever specifically because they're fatphobic. I do know for a fact that some people, especially teen girls in their competetive era, hear that some company only sells a 2-4 and that does appeal to them. If you can fit into brandy or "it's too big for me now" then you feel you're winning and like you're getting the approval of some creepy adult guy.
Brandy Melville is what you would get if Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, and the forces of evil had a very small "one sized" baby.
lmfaooooo too accurate
Doesn’t A&F own Hollister? I think it’s their little sister company.
@brib6046 Yea, I'm pretty sure they are .
I would agree that I think they’re still ✨thriving✨bc of their target demographic! Like you said, they’re selling to young, cool girls and young, cool girls absolutely do not care about mission statements or properly run businesses.

im aussie, and i've only just heard of brandy mellville today. but i think it's yikes™️ only giving xs/s sizing. very 90s and 2000s fashion sizing imo. it reminded me of that dress shop in mean girls where they just sold sizes 0, 2 and 4 or whatever... and they tell regina she's too fat after eating those kalteen dieting bars
It's giving Dov from the old American Apparel.
Really appreacite you spreading this message. F Brandy
I remember when my highschool friends took me here and i just felt like i was looking through someones Grandparents closet. It's so weird and it just screams old money aesthetic.
I love how ur videos have some activity related to the topic its fun ‼️
I wore Brandy like... 8 years ago?? I can not believe it's still popular??
"Brother euww"🤣
I've been to Chill Since 93 pizza place in West London, I was the only person in there, food was minging, and i wondered why there was a rack of cheap looking tee shirts on the wall. It all felt like a money laundering business, not a legit restaurant.
Because consumers have even fewer values that corporations. If only there were some way to prohibit labor violations and predatory employment practices.
Brandy Melville sounds like a company run by the Italian mafia.
It's absolutely insane that they are still in business.
I love how you tell me about hellish things that I didn't know existed
I have never heard of this company ?? Thank you Tyler for again educating the masses 🙏🏻🙏🏻
God bless!!
Went and watched the docu so I could watch your video. Gotta do my homework 💅
Love that, hope it was worth!! 👏
Wear what you want, as long as YOU feel good in it who cares. I’m in my 30’s and I don’t have an ed and my waist is 27in and I fit BM just fine.
My word. I suppose my opinions doesn’t count, since I’m more off a thrift store gal.😂😂
never heard of brandy melville until I started seeing trailers for the new doc
I haven't been in high school in 10 years and it was the same then 😂 something tells me the target demographic could not give 2 shits about fat phobia and racism
Your microphone placement is giving sister missionary ❤
😂😭
I love that documentary! I haven’t finished it yet but it’s so interesting
It's so good!
I really appreciate how you are planning on returning the items lol
Done & done babyyyyy
This is like, almost exactly what happened with American Apparel lol
Good question.. because of tiktok and teen girls.. it used to be tumblr and teen girls
This is what cigarrette moms would wear... 🤣🤣
What in the hell is a cigarette mom? 😂
Check out the documentary “White Hot” next- former A&F employees tell similar stories
Also, based on what happened with A&F, Brandy Melville is only a few lawsuits away from having to either change their policies or be shut down
“something cigarettes mom’s would of worn to pick up their kids at school” is she maybe referring us to Kimberly Rhodes’s cigarette mom character?
My rotted brain read Brandi Glanville at got excited 😭😭
Omg I’ve started S1 this weekend 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Help I have a top from there that I can barely lift my arms all the way up and I don’t even where a bra with it because it’s tight enough on my chest that I don’t have to, btw I’m literally 12 years old and 5’5 and about 130-140 pounds with a 29in waist and a 34in chest
I’d never even heard of Brandy Melville, I don’t think they’re a thing in the UK but this whole thing gave me the ickiest vibes imaginable
im kind of drunk rn but you're just the best
Love this
I've never heard of this brand.. Probably because I'm not the target audience but I'm here because of HBO. Tyler's shade is soo good lol
Loveee when Tyler POSTS ❤🎉
I love my ride or dies fr fr
God, I feel old. Saw the title and was like "who is she?"
I’m a man, so it’s probably just different for me, but I’ve just followed the “Old School European” method of buying clothes
Which is that I buy clothes once a year at most but you can get those clothes are going to last me for a decade at least.
This is my first time ever hearing about their brand
“One size fits all” 🙄
Crazy, right?
Lol I thought this was about that website where husbands cheat. I feel like maybe I live under a rock.😅
girl you mean ashley madison, i'm deadddd 😭💖
@tylerbenderr thank you for the clarification. Where would I be without chronically online girl? Thank you for all the sacrifices you make so people like me can keep up with the important stories of today.
The business model is thin-spo and body checking. Yuck ew gross
YESS!! I remember checking the subreddit for BM to see what they thought. What I saw was "I mean it's not their fault they promote health 😒" like okay.. we all know what that's code for
I honestly never heard of B. M. until the HBO documentary
