I like both bikes, and decided the XSR was a better choice for me. I have the FJR1300 for touring and commuter when needed. So a sporty, around town and weekend blasts w/friends seems the logical way to go w/ this new gem. IF, I didn't have the bigger bike also? Probably would've went w/ the MT10.
I wouldn’t let my MT-10 go anytime soon. But I do like the looks of this XSR. Maybe after a year when more custom parts are available or is been tested more, I’ll consider check a trade. For now I’ll keep my MT-10 :). Thank you for posting this kind or reviews man, it does helps us riders to keep up with models and gives us enough info to have conversations about it. Keep posting them brotha
Just bought a brand new XSR900, but I would have loved to test drive the MT-10 to feel the difference. I can’t speak to which one I would prefer but coming from a 1000cc BMW (RnineT), I absolutely LOVE the XSR900!
I have never owned a motorcycle with a windscreen. I figure as long as I keep it that way, I won't know what I'm missing and can continue long-hauling naked bikes.
The #1 selling point of the mt10 is the high speed stability. I hated my fz07 on the highway, but the mt10 is rock solid at speed. Bike literally never feels unpredictable.
I couldn’t agree more. I have a 2023MT 10 and since I’m still breaking it in I haven’t had it over 80 maybe 85 mph on the highway but holy shit it is so rocksolid even at those speeds I’m sure it’s really good all the way up into the triple digits. I met a guy a couple weeks ago and he said it starts feeling kind of light around 130 mph. I’ll take his word for it because I’ll probably never have it up to 130. 105 may be 110 miles an hour That’s about as fast as I have ever gone on any of my bikes
OC. I'm going to spin it a little different and say that the tracer 9GT plus is a mashup of the two. I would already have one on order if they weren't so damn expensive. Bigger tank for touring, cruise control, heated grips, windshield. All the good stuff and the CP3 is plenty of power.
I wanted to like the Tracer. Then I felt like they took an MT-09, threw away 90% of it, and put the CP3 into a massive, heavy, complex, too-touring and not-enough-sport result. Oh it's good. It's sporty. It's quick. But compared to its naked bones, it's quite a bit muted. I was hoping for a Yamaha version of a MV Agusta Tourismo Veloce. A light, sporty, leg-room, more comfortable, more distant capable 85% MT-09 with identical horsepower. It's not. It's like a MT-09 trying to out-FJ the FJ1300.
The Xsr900 has a really nice clean, oldschool look. It is so sexy. The new xsr900 GP with the front cowl looks absolutely amazing and I love the sound of the 3 cylinder reving up.
Had 2 MT10"s (The first was a 2020 that was) stolen) Got a 2021 MTo9 and sold it at 600 miles. I put heated grips and small wind screens on all of them. I liked the sound and power of the MT10, and the way it runs the twisteys . And the fact that you can get a comfort seat makes it so much better for the longer two or three day rides. I recomend gettting a 20170thru 2022 MT10 (and putting on a shift tech auto blipper) is the way to go.
OC. Great pick. It is hard to beat everything the MT-10 offers... aside from MPG, but the smiles is more than worth a fuel stop every 100 miles. I tour and camp off my 2017 FZ10. No wind screen and it is amazing!!! Keep up the great content, Chase.
I've got the 2019 MT-10 I bought it used with 10K miles some luggage windscreen heated grips I've only had it for a week now but boy it just rips the freaking corner so well and I'm on the fence of decading it because I don't know is that a cop magnet
If you had picked the XSR 900 over the MT-10, I was going to point out that it wasn't fair comparing a 2019 Yamaha MT-10 to a 2022 Yamaha XSR 900 because there have been many improvements on the 2022 MT-10 over the 2019. However, you picked it anyway....have you thought about getting a new MT-10 (maybe even the SP) and moving the parts over from your 2019?
If the small screen, scroll wheel and lack of wind protection (c'mon, it is a naked btw 😂) are all you can fault with the XSR, I"d say that's a very very positive review!
I have this exact same 22 XSR900, and while I haven't had any issues with the scroll wheel or dash, the very short fork lock is the only thing I don't like about this bike. It is without a doubt my dream bike in every other way, and like you with your MT10, it totally revitalized my love of riding after 10 years. I've had two '07 SV650's, a '20 Vstrom (650), and a '98 DL650, so the move to the XSR was a huge one for me. Can't wait for the after market to spark up, but for the time being MOST of the stuff that fits an MT09 also fit the XSR900. And then there's tons of universal fit stuff out there for the little mods.
Never had the MT-10, but as far as MPG on the CP4, I averaged beter MPGs on a ford F-150 than on my R1M. as far as the looks of the XSR900... that blue paint is amazing! I rode one for a bit, and it is a great bike, and it has such an unique sound! and that blue color with the gold is just perfect for it. OC I"d choose the XSR any day, though between that and a Street Tripe RS... That is a much harder choice.
i agree the scroll wheel on xsr900 is a nightmare, but it doesnt affect the look or the riding. it wont affect your choice of motorcycle. set your settings and you never have to use it again. love my xsr900 -22 and i cant find more "bang for the buck" on the market today. I tried the mt-09....no, no and no. If they made a zx750 -92 with better engine and everything modern like the xsr900 then maybe....if you dont like xsr900 in the naked bike category then you are probably more into sportsbikes or touring bikes. It is a top contender for sure for the price you pay. If i had a "no limit budget" i might go for some ducati with 200hp but I'll look like a clown when a better rider pass me on a slower bike. You cant buy riding skills but you can learn them over time.
MT 10 all the way. I just picked my MT 10 up last week it’s a 2023 model. I rode it last year at the Yamaha demo and fell in love with it. I traded in my 2021 Kawasaki Z 900 RS café that’s how much I loved the MT 10
MT10 has the best of everything i possibly need ina motorcycle, power, agility, configurability, easy to service, easy to understand, never suprises you. I think yamaha's one of the best creations, that i will only upgarde to 2022/23 model, maybe.
OC: I am facing a similar dilemma, I am thinking of getting the new MT10 over my 2016 XSR900 60th. If Yamaha ever decides to release a XSR1000 I would put a deposit down the next day.
What a great video, very informative. I do think bikes are subjective I prefer the XSR-900 I have one on order in black and I can’t wait to get it mid august!!
I want to ride one of these so bad, coming from a mt-10 but haven't had it for a handful of years, haven't ridden since I sold it. This bike is beautiful. Big fan of the Z900 as well. Wonder if the Z900 cafe would compare, don't think you mentioned it.
Whilst the Z900 is heavy, it looks awful. No fancy electronics which most nakeds have now, its expensive, and doesn't compete with the likes of the MT09 SP, 890R and 765RS. The RS Z900 is only really for poodleling around on, very under powered, in4 is lack luster and no modern amenities. For me, the 1200 Speed twin was a better bike than the Z900 RS.
@@inked-96 is there no head to head for these two bikes? There's no way I believe the Z900 doesn't compete with the mt-09. Doesn't the Z make more on paper so even if it's heavier it should make for somewhat of a even playing field. As far as the looks I guess to each their own, I love the looks and I'm not the only one who thinks that. One of my best friends got a naked Z900 because it looks so good to him.
@PDillz MT09 is a better bike. Don't get me wrong, the z900 is good but inline 4's are dying and have been for years. Z900 doesn't come with most modern amenities like quickshifter up n down, corner abs, cornering traction control, no decent suspension, no cruise control and yet still demands a high price... it's one of the heaviest in it's class, it's near on a 1000cc not a 900, it's not a middleweight bike... 765RS 890R Mt09/SP Are all better bikes and similarly priced if not cheaper. What you get with the Z900 is reliability and aggressive looks.. that's about it. If im paying 13k for a bike, I expect it to compete with the competition which it doesn't.
@PDillz z900 makes 125hp and 98nm. 210kg. MT09 SP is 193KG, 118hp and 92nm. I always found a triple to be a happy medium. I'm just basing my opinion. We ride what we like... no one makes a bad bike, just some are better than others in our own view. Have a good day.
I was so so tempted to get the MT10 but doing touring i went with the MT09SP and was still happy with my choice but its a nice comparison and fuel range was important in my choice too as found that i got over 200 miles out of my MT09 in the end be interested on how far could get with MT10
Entertaining video! You're right about that cross plane being one of the best sounding bikes, BUT the Aprilia RSV4 is the best sounding. 😁 Keep up the good work!
Depends on use and conditions but ive ridden both and im going with xsr.. the newer models have everything i want and since my new commute is about 20miles shorter each way, i can stop worrying about the smaller tank and lack of wind protection
I bought the new gen '21 mt09 last year and then found a screaming deal on a '18 mt10, you know how that goes. I can't keep them both, VERY tough decision but I'm leaning towards the mt10. I watched till the end, I think you've helped me make my decision.
OC; Chase complains about both dashes. Audience: What the hell do you want? Me: He wants a Ducati. Admit it, if you could afford it you would own a Ducati.
I'm so glad I picked my 2020 Mt10 dark knight edition abs. Thanks for video. Made me feel allot better about my choice 3 yrs ago. B safe but .....when in doubt tach it out.
Having owned many heavy big engined bikes over many years when you ride a lightweight machine everything just feels better, easier, more fun. XSR gets my pick.
I knew you would stick with the MT10. I would have done the same. The ergos, engine, practicality and sound win it for me hands down. Good video. Keep up the good work. 👊🏿✌🏿👍🏿
Great review video I appreciate this and the comparison I’ve been strongly looking at an MT 09 but you have convinced me I need to look at other aspects instead of falling in love with a bike for it looks
OC: I think you nailed it when you said (in essence not verbatim) the day to day usage a heavy bike just feels better than something that is lighter. if I wanted a fun weekend thing then the xsr 900 is what I would go for.. but the bigger bike yes. as for the Gas mileage on the MT10 that is something one can not only get used to but figure the sweet spot on a LONG long trip. anyway MT10 for me if I had to choose just between those two.
Ive ridden both of them, and own a MT10.. I wouldn't give it up for anything. XRR and MT09 feel like toys to me not as serious as the MT10. That moto GP sound is second to none... Can't go wrong with either. I've owned almost every liter bike out there and needed something similar to that feel. I don't care about electronics and turn them all off with the exception of the quick shifter.
My BMW F900R has the best TFT of any of the bikes I have seen. I love the jog wheel screen control setup on my left hand side and don't think I would like it at all on the throttle side.
I currently own a 22’ z900 and am going to try and pick up a mt10 next season if possible! Can’t wait. Won’t sell the z900 tho, sentimental value is too high.
I had a 10 for two plus years and it’s one of the best bikes I’ve owned. My xsr900 is highly modified, and though it’s 5 years old, I wouldn’t trade it for any bike. The only thing the new one has that I find interesting is cruise. I have that with my tracer, so….
I have lusted after the XSR900 as soon as I saw it. I got to sit on one at my local dealer recently, and I love it even more except for the seat. I don't mean looks as I think it looks great on that bike. It's the comfort I didn't like it was lime sitting on a piece of plywood. I would love to ride one I just haven't had the chance yet.
I have the FZ-10 and I want the XSR 900 so I'm glad you made this video. Some the things you stated on the video were right on the money, but the brakes on the FZ/MT are horrible. I leaning towards getting the XSR 900 because I personally like a lighter bike, but I don't think I'm ready to give up my FZ just yet. I guess I will get a windscreen and upgrade the brakes and keep rolling and get the XSR 900 in the future!
I wonder how long til Yamaha releases an xsr 1k. I get the vibe chase would choose the more powerful bike despite what he said about being more reserved as he has aged.
With your MT10 as you wish, and it has a quick shifter.. you got to go MT10.. If it didn't have the QS, might be a different decision. A Quick Shifter is the VVT of DOHC, gotta have it. Cruise control to boot, but not a big deal for me.
For you and your current situation I can see why keeping your MT10 makes the most sense. Depending on what you end up doing with your ADV bike plans could change the situation though. If you end up with and ADV bike that has good weather protection and highway comfort then the XSR or some other smaller more sporting bike would be a better fit for you.
The travel of the wheel is designed so that you need to rotate your hand just a hair backward to have your press in line with the wheel. Yamaha did this on purpose for safety reasons. If you press it not lined up with the action of the button you’ll roll it every time!
ajor complaint WHY do I have to buy an XSR900 to get the longer swing arm?? Or have to buy the MT09SP to have nice suspension? Seriously I cant have BOTH on at least ONE of them???
I just bought a 2023 MT09. I was hoping all the MT models parts and the tracer parts were interchangeable since they seem to share the same basic frame and engine.
I am a owner of mt 07 and i am thinking xsr 900 is better looking of mt 09 2022 and better performance from mt 09 2020.. so xsr 900 it will be a perfect choice... Mt 10 is a quite big and a lot powerful for every day!!
where did you get that windscreen from on the 10? & good pick to keep the bike! im looking for a 10 atm (riding the 09 now) any tips when looking for one?
I own a 22 MT 10, which has the electronic goodies and that big, bad ass motor, set up for sport touring with a flash and link pipe. I will take that over the xrs900 any and every day. XRS is a very nice ride, but can’t really compare to the MT.
Hi man, I just would like to know what are the saddle bags (or cases??) that you have on your mt-10 and can you put your helmet inside? Just like let say.. ninja 1000sx cases??
good video, I have the xsr900 myself and I am completely in love with it, I was just wondering what do you think of the saddle? I found it too hard myself.. I had it reupholstered and thicker padding in it. thanks for the video.
Stole every word out my mouth! Especially at the end, where you talk about riding through every season and situation with your 10. 30k and almost four years of ownership and I can’t believe how much I still love it. Perfect? Nope, but it’s got charisma and a fun factor that endears it to your heart. It’s my bike-wife. I’ve spent time on an MT-09 SP, and as great as that bike is, it doesn’t even come close…

Had a 2022 XSR900 and I just could not live with the seat, after an hour I was done, swapped it for an MT09 and I love that bike
Why not just buy a Corbin?
You swapped the bike or the seat?
I mean, a simple modification is to take it to someone to put extra padding in it
@@jimmydgrantc’mon bro:
$650 vs $11,000
Answer is obvious- entirely new bike!
😂
Just bought a brand new XSR900, but I would have loved to test drive the MT-10 to feel the difference. I can’t speak to which one I would prefer but coming from a 1000cc BMW (RnineT), I absolutely LOVE the XSR900!
I have never owned a motorcycle with a windscreen. I figure as long as I keep it that way, I won't know what I'm missing and can continue long-hauling naked bikes.
Much quieter that way, believe it or not.
Its is still 60lbs more than the XSR900...but once add touring stuff on the XSR will make it around 450lbs, still a little lighter.
@@exothermal.sprocket I was thinking that the Tracer is kinda like Yamaha's version of Honda's VFR
It would be cool if Yamaha did a single sided swingarm on the xsr900
hmm.. would single sided weigh more? Those swing arms and entire forged aluminum integrated frame is gorgeous.
@@markhall3434 just plain logic screams that a single sided swingarm is lighter
The Xsr900 has a really nice clean, oldschool look. It is so sexy. The new xsr900 GP with the front cowl looks absolutely amazing and I love the sound of the 3 cylinder reving up.
Th GP is ugly.
I recomend gettting a 20170thru 2022 MT10 (and putting on a shift tech auto blipper) is the way to go.
are those sporty looking bags available for the xsr900?
I'd go for the XSR 900. MT-10 is too big for me. If you seen how tight the roads and traffics in Southeast Asia, you'll understand
OC.
My decision would have been based on insurance for me.
In California XSR 900 @ $45 a month, MT-10 @ $320 a month for me.. so yeah.... LOL!
This was so dope I'm glad you stayed loyal to her❤
If the small screen, scroll wheel and lack of wind protection (c'mon, it is a naked btw 😂) are all you can fault with the XSR, I"d say that's a very very positive review!
Not to mention he added an after market screen to the mt 10... lol
Where can I get that jacket it’s dope!
Your decision was shocking!
Would be my choice too tho…love the sound!
i agree the scroll wheel on xsr900 is a nightmare, but it doesnt affect the look or the riding. it wont affect your choice of motorcycle. set your settings and you never have to use it again. love my xsr900 -22 and i cant find more "bang for the buck" on the market today.
After all this time did you make the right choice or was it brutish acceleration you were looking for ?
Here because I'm thinking about this XSR9 for 2023 despite buying a new bike in 2022. I swear it never ends.
I have XSR900 22 and I love it. Upgraded from XSR700 so heaps more power but just as manoeuvrable.
Bought my 22 mt10 after trying out a few bikes including the mt09, totally agree this will be the bike I want to keep for a very long time.
It's too big for you, get a Grom .
765RS
890R
Mt09/SP
Are all better bikes and similarly priced if not cheaper.
What you get with the Z900 is reliability and aggressive looks.. that's about it. If im paying 13k for a bike, I expect it to compete with the competition which it doesn't.
@PDillz z900 makes 125hp and 98nm. 210kg.
120 miles a tank approx
@@cornbred0327 yea didn't think would be much over 100 so is that riding normal or full tilt everywhere
@@PureEvolution normal in Bradenton FL riding. In town w traffic and lights. Gotta go on a tour sometime tho. It should get better highway.
Hi. That was a no brainer. MT10 is so hot. And I do like what you said about the "making it yours" customizing factor of the MT10! Like the grey!
I bought the new gen '21 mt09 last year and then found a screaming deal on a '18 mt10, you know how that goes. I can't keep them both, VERY tough decision but I'm leaning towards the mt10. I watched till the end, I think you've helped me make my decision.
OC;
Chase complains about both dashes.
Audience: What the hell do you want?
Me: He wants a Ducati.
Admit it, if you could afford it you would own a Ducati.
You aint wrong. lol
Why not sell your MT-10 and get the new and updated MT-10 2022?
I'm so glad I picked my 2020 Mt10 dark knight edition abs. Thanks for video. Made me feel allot better about my choice 3 yrs ago. B safe but .....when in doubt tach it out.
Having owned many heavy big engined bikes over many years when you ride a lightweight machine everything just feels better, easier, more fun. XSR gets my pick.
I knew you would stick with the MT10. I would have done the same. The ergos, engine, practicality and sound win it for me hands down. Good video. Keep up the good work. 👊🏿✌🏿👍🏿
I only ride my MT10 in mode one. I love the feeling of that throttle!
100% rather have an MT-10. I had an MT-09 and thought it was a great bike but not quite what I'm looking for.
I like the term Angry Bionicle more than transformer/deceptacon. Someone coined that term a while back and I think it's a very good description
I currently own a 22’ z900 and am going to try and pick up a mt10 next season if possible! Can’t wait. Won’t sell the z900 tho, sentimental value is too high.
OC, I would love to ride the MT 10. I’m a BMW rider but this bike looks so fun.
Good decision it’s more important that a bike does more things if only bike
How 'buzzy' are the bar-end mirrors at cruise? On the XSR that is. I traded in my BMW S1000XR because they were useless above 60mph...
What custom parts does the XSR not have compared to the MT10? SC Project exhaust, ECU Tuned, Suspension parts, etc… are all available. 🤷🏽♂️
Own an MT10 and have rode an XSR, both are wheelie tools 😂
Love them both but I'd go MT10 👍
What microphone do you use that can drown out the "loudness" of the exhaust.
Gsx 1000 GT if you like it in blue or Ninja 1000 sx ?
Test road the new MT09 SP over the summer. It was so nice in many ways but I’d still have the MT10 in my garage if I could only have one.
What ECU Tune is on the MT-10? 2WDW?
I just bought a 2023 MT09. I was hoping all the MT models parts and the tracer parts were interchangeable since they seem to share the same basic frame and engine.
Great video. How many miles do you usually get on a full tank with your MT10?
how didn't you touch on the breakes ?
Agree on the sound of the MT10....mostly. The RSV4/Touno sounds a little better
Keep the MT10. Luggage on the xsr900? Save your money for a brandnew MT10 in the future.
I wish they would make an XSR 1000
@@cassius348 right it would be so awesome
I am a owner of mt 07 and i am thinking xsr 900 is better looking of mt 09 2022 and better performance from mt 09 2020.. so xsr 900 it will be a perfect choice... Mt 10 is a quite big and a lot powerful for every day!!
I'm going to need a breakdown of all your different gloves.
where did you get that windscreen from on the 10? & good pick to keep the bike! im looking for a 10 atm (riding the 09 now) any tips when looking for one?
Which Ruroc is that and can I get your honest opinion? Thanks!
O.c. definitely the mt10. Nice looking bike and as you said you can really make it your own
I own a 22 MT 10, which has the electronic goodies and that big, bad ass motor, set up for sport touring with a flash and link pipe. I will take that over the xrs900 any and every day. XRS is a very nice ride, but can’t really compare to the MT.
OC Puig universal Vision windscreen looks very nice on the xsr
I dont know if you can get them in the u .s but inthe uk you can get body work fairings and tanks kits starting at £1500 for the xsr 900
My dreambike would be: XSR900 with the CP4 of the MT10❤🎉
OC. Looking to upgrade to my next bike. What would be a better bike for a novice to intermediate rider? Im leaning towards XSR900
Hi man, I just would like to know what are the saddle bags (or cases??) that you have on your mt-10 and can you put your helmet inside? Just like let say.. ninja 1000sx cases??
If you had to choose new 22 xsr900 or 22 mt-10 for daily or day trip? I have an adventure bike for longer touring.
good video, I have the xsr900 myself and I am completely in love with it,
I was just wondering what do you think of the saddle? I found it too hard myself.. I had it reupholstered and thicker padding in it.
thanks for the video.
Stole every word out my mouth! Especially at the end, where you talk about riding through every season and situation with your 10. 30k and almost four years of ownership and I can’t believe how much I still love it. Perfect? Nope, but it’s got charisma and a fun factor that endears it to your heart. It’s my bike-wife.
I’ve spent time on an MT-09 SP, and as great as that bike is, it doesn’t even come close…
