    To everyone that has commented, thank you for being a part of the conversation! If you are looking for the first time, read through the comments here. There are some great suggestions if my fix doesn't solve the problem. But, I just wanted to hop in and say that since making this fix, the fan is still going and I haven't had any issues. Again, that's just me so if you still have issues, keep digging, there is always a fix! Thanks!

      hey man, Just saw your video, great content. My Sprinter van fan works real good but I can't get it to blow hot air on my feet. I turn the knob and the air flow changes accordingly it seems, until I get to the down arrow and no air comes out of the vents down there. The plastic duct does get hot but no air from there... I know this is a different issue but just wondering if you have any ideas.Thank you!

    If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem :>D Just did this on my 2018 Sprinter 40,000ish miles. Fan stopped working. Was troubleshooting the fan, ran across this video...gave the fan a spin and got it working again. I sprayed with electrical contact cleaner and some dry film silicone spray on the bearings, see how long it lasts before it dies again.

    if you pull the hepa filter form the air box under the hood, reach in and spin the cage ( moisture, cold etc stuck) will free it and wont have to pull glove box

      Also good to remove and try lubricate if that doesnt work though.!! Also there is a cage which makes it a bit awkward to get in and spin it

    Thank you for the video! I just went outside to test my blower that stopped working. Opened the hood, removed cabin air filter and turned the blower with a stick. All working now! I will take the blower apart to lubricate, good thing I watched your video before buying a new blower.

    Thankyou for the video sir !!. I’m in the UK and my fan stopped today . Hardest part of the job was emptying the crap out of the glove box.
    It’s working again so I sprayed some electrical service spray in to it and it now spins really easy. It’s predicted to be 31c on Friday so I’m really going to be thanking you👍🏻🥳 The vans on 380,000m now so it’s done very well......cheers.

    You're the best! The mechanic wanted to replace a relay and the fan motor. $$$ This simple procedure worked. 2015 Sprinter Cargo van. p.s. 7 screws for the glove box on the 2015 model. Four across the bottom. :)

    This worked for my 2018 Sprinter 2500.
    I removed the glove box and blew out the existing motor and tested it before I put it back together and it ran just fine.
    Thanks

    It works as advertised. Thank you. Mines works but makes a funny noise. I seem to have a lot of the little black pellets all over the place and I wonder if that got inside the housing. I blew it out and it is a uiet.
    Tip. Spinning out the blower was a bit tricky so I use the screw driver to help. Also remove that one screw holding the black frame or the motor won’t come out. This screw is different as it has a flat washer.

    The bushings are dry causing it to stick. I noticed when you spin it by hand it stops immediately. I hear a small squeek when it starts up too. You can pull the motor from the plastic housing and put a few drops of light oil on the bushings. That got mine working again. But it's probably best to just order a new one. You can get them off Rock Auto for $40

    better not cheap out and buy a new blower motor.Reason is the motor is overloading the electrical because it's worn out and eventually you will fry your motor resistor,and sometimes wiring harness,which will cost more than a motor to replace.Sure the trick will work in a pinch,but always replace the motor if it ever seized up on you like this.

    I had same thing happened. Stuck fan motor in the rear interior roof Ac. I have checked fuses and relays all work but fan blower didn’t spin. Checked dashboard control unit, all works, checked wiring of the fan was all good but fan wasn’t spinning. Finally turned fan by hand it began spinning no problem. Somehow it was stuck. Saved $300 on diagnostic and didn’t need to replace anything. It seems to be common problem. Try spins fan. Be blessed!

    These are all over the wen for like $60. I’d say its wearing out. That’s what the chirping noise is when it’s turning. Maybe get some longevity by lunricating it. Interested to know how long it lasted after this.

    Interesting video but you're overlooking two key indicators that your fan motor is approaching the end of its life. 1) The fan does not turn freely - you should be able to spin the blower cage easily and it should continue spinning on its own until it finally slows and stops. 2) Your fan motor is squealing - a sure sign it's about to fail and the end is sooner than later.

  • @dodgeplow

    Depending on how much use it's had, I would suspect worn brushes. If so, it'll stop again in the future.

    • @TheMaryJaneExperience
      @TheMaryJaneExperience  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I mentioned in the last comment, it's worked fine for months now in the Colorado Winter. Any reason, say rusting, freezing, etc... why you think this will happen again? Can you explain what worn brushes means?

    • @dodgeplow
      @dodgeplow 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TheMaryJaneExperience The shaft of this type of motor design is spun while riding on electrical contacts called brushes. After a lot of use, they wear down and typically don't make good contact. The shaft itself can develop a little bit of pitting or rust as well. Then you lose operation because of bad electrical contact. When you removed it and spun it by hand, you likely removed some of the corrosion from the contact surface, but the brushes remain worn. At 3:20 or so, you can hear the fan get a little squeaky. That's the bearings being a little worn too. These factors increase the current needed to start the fan spinning. Once it spins, it needs less power to keep it going.
      Don't get me wrong, you may have many more hours of use out of this fan, but it will likely stop again since it's already done it once. The good news is that you know how to reach it to replace it when it does. If you are handy and don't mind doing a lot of leg work (finding the small parts is a hassle. We used to have many small electric stores for parts, now in our throw away society it's much less likely), you can replace the brushes and bearings if it happens again. Or you can just replace the whole unit.

    What year is your sprinter? I have an 06 T1n. Mine crapped out. Sounded supper ruff like a trash compactor in the end only running on high. Then nothing. my understanding is i need new resistor and fan. Not sure where it even is on my model or part number. This would be a reasonable fix. I do know that the resistor is located under hood next to right of intake fan. Thanks. Also, I heard theres a spray for electrical stuff wondering if that might work well once pulling out to help give it some more life.
