Speaking as a female this episode has really touched me! It is SO refreshing to hear a group of chaps sit down and speak so openly and honest. It’s Not easy for a lot of men and I am sure it will definitely reach and help more than you realise! Well done to you all! UTV!! 💜💙
I don’t normally comment but I just wanted to say thank you to all five of you gentlemen for taking the time to speak about your struggles and mental health in general. It’s not something that’s spoken about enough, and I appreciate all of you for having the courage to open up. This video has helped me massively and I couldn’t be more grateful to you all. Cheers gents and UTV 🙌❤️💜
Lads this wasn't self-indulgent at all. I really appreciated all of you being so honest and sharing such challenging stories. It definitely made me pause and reflect about mines and other's mental health, which is so important for us blokes to do. I know I've had challenging times over the past few years, and having the Claret & Blue podcast to look forward to consistently has always made me feel better; especially as I'm unable to get to games due to struggling financially and my social circle dwindling too. Whenever I tune in, it always feels like I'm listening to a bunch of mates down the pub. Thank you so much!
I have so much respect and admiration for you for doing this Dan. You can only talk about your own experiences, there is no self indulgence whatsoever in opening up and saying how you feel about things. Well done all of you ❤
Dan, the attitdue of putting the content before the numbers is utterly admirable. Especially when it comes to this subject. I really appreciate the real talk from all members of the 5ocial - not just your generic mental health chat. 2017 I parked my work van on the edge of a cliff in North Wales and seriously considered every single aspect of my life. That still felt a time where was little to no support or recognition of mental health struggles, particularly for men. I spent some months off work, working through therapy and with medication and felt myself grow so much as a person in recognising, discussing and taking action on feelings - both historical ones that had been tucked away as well as current challenges. Things are always difficult but I feel myself being aware of them allows me to stop them growing and worsening. I big part of what helped coming out of that was in fact audio media, podcasts and especially fan media which is I big part of why I love the things everyone single one of you guys work on and produce. Its actually huge. 2024 has been probably the toughest year since then. A few pretty massive challenges have come up, but my wife also suffered a miscarriage earlier in the year - with next week being the week she was due to be taken in so the talk from experiences of this as well as the real experience of the birthing really hit hard - not afraid to say I needed a bit of a cuddle during that. TL;DR - Absolutely great work, massively appreciatd.
@@villarule06 Well done for still being here mate. I was the same after the Newcastle game a couple of seasons ago. Felt the time was right. One day at a time. UTV.
You boys are a credit to us Villa fans, I think there’s something you’ve spoken about there that many of us can relate to. Totally agree with Dan regarding the flooding of social media.
A seriously impressive Pod Dan, Mental health is a problem that us men always hide from especially by using alcohol & trying to act hard pretending it's not affecting us but it really does. Great content especially hearing the other side of your life & everyone involved on a personal level. Keep up the great work Dan would like to see more of this Mental health content & mens problems 👏
Don’t normally comment on YT videos but fair play to all of you for addressing the topic. You all are doing great things and remember the vast, vast majority of people love your content. Most people, myself included wouldn’t be able to put ourselves ‘out there’ like ye do never mind make content that people look forward to each week. Continue the great work. Love all of the content! 👏
There’s loads out there like you too, I’m the same. I watch and I enjoy so I don’t comment, I just keep going back, as James said you just take that as ‘carry on what you’re doing’ the silent majority are definitely out there and we appreciate everyone watching, whether they comment or not.
This was so refreshing to listen to. I could relate to so many aspects of this pod, from suffering with severe anxiety and depression to traumatic experience as a father to be in the hospital and my then partner having bipolar and what that did to me mentally for yrs (PTSD) I've gone through so much and talking about it was the biggest healer for me. It never fully goes but it gets to a stage where you have the tools to manage it and see the warning signs before it escalates. Full respect to you all for sharing this, this could help ppl a lot more than you think. Thank you guys!
I want to say a massive thank you to you all for opening up. Really puts it into perspective that a lot more men go through things than you really think. I struggle a lot with my mental health. I look forward to listening to all the different Channels you all have because I’m a massive football fan and look forward to villa all week. But it can be lonely living on my own and being a lorry driver so going to the villa is my thing but even now I’m being priced out to going to every home game as I’ve on the waiting list for a season ticket for years. Sorry about the paragraph just want to once again say thank you to you all for doing alittle bit of a different video. Up the villa 💜
Now my emotions have settled down I want to say that I've always loved listening to all your views on the Villa, now my respect and admiration has got up ten fold for each and every one of you 5 for speaking so openly about things personal and traumatic for you. It makes me sad to hear that Ty is stepping away from his platform, the majority love his passion and he's totally relatable. I do feel when I see personal, vindictive comments to content providers it's from other jealous men who have something lacking in their lives, I can honestly say I've never see a woman posting abuse. It's easy to say ignore the haters but it's so hard and we're all only human with real feelings and emotions. This episode will stay with me for a long time. Thank you guys 💜
Between you boys, you’ve represented every single person and the challenges we all face and have to overcome in life. Well done, great episode and very important topics covered.
Well done guys 👏 it takes real strength and bravery to open up about mental health to your mates but to open up on camera and post it on TH-cam is just incredible and really refreshing. Massive respect to you all 👊
Thank you. One of you early on in the discussion said that because people see you on their platforms, they think they know you, but the way you all opened up and related your experiences does make you more relatable; you’re not just five guys who do my favourite podcasts, you’re five guys who go through the same highs and heartbreaks that we all do, and that’s made my appreciation for you go up immensely. Thank you all for sharing, and all the best for your respective futures, wherever they lead.
An outstandingly open podcast fellas. Appreciate this. I've been through mental health issues and have kids with mental health issues. It's not easy but it's amazing to hear other stories. Also, to Ty, there is no shame in autism. I have 3 autistic kids and there is nothing wrong with it, it is who they are and Ty will find himself and thrive through the process
I just also want to add, you lads sticking together is probably what has touched me the most. Great team, great mates and keep on sticking together 👊🏼🤞🏼
A very moving podcast and essential that we get this message out to all fans. As a psychotherapist and Villa fan I’m acutely aware of how rarely men connect on an emotional level and this can store up issues that can later on become overwhelming. You are great role models for all young men, although it’s sad you also have to take some grief along with in. Please keep going. UTV
Guys, to all five of you, that was incredible. Really special. As a Villa fan who has suffered badly with mental health for the last ten years, that was actually quite therapeutic. I remember the 3-0 win against Newcastle at VP because I was ready to go that night. The timing was perfect as the Villa had kept me going. You should all get hugely proud of that and if I see any of you at a game, I’ll let you know in person. Thanks lads, UTV.
Listened to this 2days ago & still thinking about it. Not self indulgent at all, it was refreshing to hear you all talk openly about your issues. As a older lady who still sits up the Holte End & still manages to see the goals go in 😉 I am grateful for my friends who are always there to listen 😃 An excellent podcast 👍🏻
Guys thank you for this. I have related to pretty much everything you have said here. The last six years I have lost my marriage, my kids have grown up and forgot about me. Lost my friends. I started listening to Dan n Tom on the villa view and started going to the villa again, not just to watch the game but just to be surrounded by people again. Dan, you stopped to chat to me when I saw you and your dad going towards the club shop back when we were in the championship, it was the game against Sheffield Wednesday when McGinn scored his banger? Then the pandemic took even this away from me and I can identify with everything that Ty said and feel the same. It’s just been my 50th birthday and my new partner has got me a ticket to the palace game this weekend. I haven’t been since the pandemic pretty much for the reasons Ty said about wanting to stay home all the time. I still suffer from anxiety due to the way my life has changed so much these last six years but the one constant I have is Villa and all the podcasts you guys do. I listen every night to help me settle, to shut out my worries keeping me awake, only to listen to fellas talking the mighty Villa. Never stop please 🙏 Mark
Mate, such a hard but nice comment to read. Glad the pods help you, it makes it worthwhile in my mind. I hope I bump into you on Saturday, if you are on socials DM me 👊
I’ve been struggling recently with my mental health and listening to this a few comments really resonated with me. Especially Ty’s experience. Well done lads this helped give me a different perspective
I don't normally comment on any social media post. However, after watching this, i just wanted to say thank you to you all. This video was one of the best videos you have done. I have struggled from the age of 13 to speak to people about how i feel and now being a 40 year old man and having another tough year this video has made me realise it's ok to talk and that i need to go and speak to someone. Keep up the great work, lads. UTV
Very interesting issues: Mental health is basically the ability to cope. We’re all at different stages of mental health. Much respect to you blokes for speaking about these issues
A thoroughly enjoybale listen. Thank you chaps, refreshing to hear you all talk so openly about your feelings, challenges and the support you've shown to each other. Inspirational stuff.
Gents. Well done for talking about this. It's a hugely important topic, and men need to break out of the 'stiff upper lip, boys don't cry' mentality! You don't have to have all the answers, and you should be able to talk about stuff. Well done for starting the conversation 👍 Also UTV ✌
Lads, that was a great episode considering the topics which were being discussed! I appreciate you all being open and honest about your individual experiences with mental health, as Dan Bardell mentioned, everyone has probably suffered from some sort of event which has affected their own life one way or another! Men should talk to each other more about what may be causing them to not feel the best, as they say, it's OK not to be OK! Well done for doing this and hopefully it'll help those who need it 🙏🏾 Look forward to the Christmas edition of the social in a few weeks time! UTV!
Brilliant episode and a great topic. Brave of all of you and though it started as men's health the social media impacts us all to varying degrees. Also good for women to understand too as some think its women affected emotionally and not men when it affects us all. Differingopinions make us individuals and should be accepted as someone's opinion without derogatory or abusive responses.
I’ve just been stunned by this as I wasn’t expecting it. I started listening in my car and had to pull over in the supermarket car park to take it all in. I can’t thank you enough for all of your honesty and frankness about your issues and struggles. Loving the fact that you have all been able to put valued content above numbers of clicks. Thankyou so very much to The Villa social from someone having his own battles at the moment.
Good on you guys. As you said, it’s not an easy topic to talk about but a real one, and I appreciate you sharing your personal experience. I look forward to the Christmas one.
Well done VILLA 5OCIAL what a brilliant show . To highlight mental health in men . To listen to all 5 of you with issues that may not have come out in normal times . I am sure that will help others to open up to someone who may help them through these stressful times.
Thank you all! Men with any kind of profile opening up should only inspire other men to be better versions of themselves! Good work! Ty, opening up about being at the birth of your Son ... I shed a tear! Bless you! Matt, also thank you! Trust NHS Professionals, they are almost always spot on! Dan, Imposter Syndrome can be suffocating, you are legitimate and DogDad's are legit too (I trust any humand who loves animals, any animal who doesn't trust a human is a red flag too) UTV Gang!
Well done guys I loved this podcast I am sailing from Gibraltar to Miami and at sea for 14 days,I was fed up listening to the Villa pods after that set of results so this was a breath of fresh air and is a good insight into the the lives of ordinary people who share a passion although US based I am a season ticket holder and passionate Villa fan.
Brilliant, respect to you all and it's definitely not self indulgent. You have all come through traumatic life experiences some different some the same but you have come through and out the other side. You have become stronger and more caring because of them. There is no need to beat yourselves up about anything we all deal with what life delivers to our door differently what's important is that we learn from it and you all have. They say pride comes before a fall but you all should feel very proud of yourselves. UTV
Technology has alot to do with mental health issues amongst people . Digital "communication"is destroying our humanity . Nobody really talks anymore ! UTV 💜💙
Guys I listen watch all of ur content but have not commented until now. No reason just not really my thing to comment. I really enjoyed listening to this it touched me to be fair as up until recently I have suffered quite severely with depression and when your in that hole it’s a very lonely place and you guys have demonstrated that I wasn’t on my own! It’s ok to not be ok UTFV xx
This is amazing. We need more things like this for not just men. I can too relate a few stories here this is amazing to watch. Well done all that are involved. It’s ok too talk 👌
What a great episode listening to you all about your struggles and how you overcome them this is truly inspiring for me thank you for doing this episode. UTV
Brilliant podcast lads...men really don't talk enough about their problems in life, everyone presumes that the guy next to them is ok and there life is wonderful but this podcast shows that life isn't perfect. Doesn't matter how small or big a problem is if we don't talk about it it's only going to fester , so it really does matter to talk to someone. Cheers lads you've started something that hopefully other guys will understand and call for help if needed. UTV 💜💙
I'll be honest, I was skeptical about this episode when I first saw it. This is where I come to listen about Villa etc. I listened though as I like all content produced from all of you. I'm pleased I did. Was refreshing to hear the chat and listen to how life can go up and down for everyone. Thank you all.
What a great episode guy's your a credit to the villa family, just picking up on what ty mentioned, I'm 50 and can't remember the last time I didn't worry about everything, it's not a good thing to deal with, I wish I didnt 😢
This was brilliant lads. Absolutely brilliant. I know you helped one person here at least. Working in tv/film/media in front/behind camera in Los Angeles where it’s a hard to talk in a place of make believe I feel this deeply and I had it rough this year. Aston Villa have been one of the things that I have clinged onto and conversations like this. Well done for your vulnerability and hold onto those friendships. So proud you made this. You never know how it could help - Danny
Would like to say thank you to all 5 of you. It was so refreshing to hear the conversations you guys have had makes me realise that I’m not alone and it’s not just me . I’m 55 and was brought up kingstanding Birmingham in a children’s home where is was tough and I went through mental , physical and sexually abuse . However we are taught to get on with it it’s just the way it is . I try and be positive but there’s days where is a struggle to get my head of my pillow, , I hate myself and put so My pressure on me and who I think I am . I’m in a good place and have a partner and teenager and I live my life through them and of course the Villa ( which causes its own issues hahaha ) . Any way I just want to say thank you to all of you and keep it up and this podcast made me feel ok and then feel I’m not alone x ps UTV
Referring to your phone video fail story, I watch the match live at 4am in Rockingham,Western Australia. I wanted to record the Champions League theme music, on my phone, as I was watching the TV, with the players lined up. However, as it was 4am, I didn’t want to wake the missus, so I had my headphones on, so sitting there, music blasting through my headphones, holding up my phone recording the TV, and of course the TV is muted…. 😳🙄 Great show guys UTV!
Fabulous to see/hear you all sharing your experiences particularly the bad side of social media. Hopefully this will help others realise that others have the same feelings/reactions and coping strategies. There isn’t one particular person or event I want to pick out as the general discussion should be valuable/helpful for others
This was superb lads… it’s a time of year when some people really can struggle, and hearing the genuine situations of people they watch every week will really mean something. I’m not a father, but Rolo’s story was incredible… can’t imagine what that was like. Also, Dan’s imposter syndrome, i think that’s a really big issue for many people, so that was well worth the discussion. Thanks lads, appreciate that 💜💙
Just want to say thank you so much for sharing, it didn't come across as indulgent at all. I'm not male, but can totally relate as an anxious person. If anything it reminded me that no one is alone in their struggles and gives hope. I have had so much support from the Villa family in the past and this video sums up why. Thank you 🥹💜💙
Absolutely brilliant boys, giving the viewers insight to your personal struggles is very revealing to how men can struggle in silence. Well done lads, fantastic episode 👍🏿
Long time listener but never really comment. This was outstanding, fair play to all involved, i can guarantee you've helped more than one person with this
Female here, not your target audience here but this was an excellent episode - such an important topic to discuss. I love how millennials (and younger) are so open about their mental health struggles - Too many Gen X and older men suffered in silence. Also, thanks to Dan B for bringing up that podcast episode he did with Dave where they spoke about miscarriages - it really stuck with me - I’ve had many friends and family members miscarry and until that episode (I’m ashamed to admit) I’ve never really thought about how it affects the potential dads to be, the focus for me was always on the mom.
Guys, I appreciate how candid you were in this video. I feel for each of you, having suffered with my own mental health for many years. I know how disrespectful some comments are and how just a flippant comment can just floor you. I hope it doesn’t stop any of you from carrying on as that would be horrible. There are many of us Villa fans who rely on your input. Thanks.
@ I’m very pleased to hear it, I can’t remember who it was who spoke about the effects that Sertraline can have on you. I too have been on Sertraline for what feels like forever, I just take it because my doctor said that I should, but what was said about it made me realise why I have changed so much. I found it helps with my intrusive thoughts and the like, but I ve lost all my empathy with so many things. I lost my Dad in August and I felt nothing same with other family members and friends who are no longer with us. I’ve felt guilty for feeling nothing like I couldn’t give a damn. It now makes total sense so maybe I can be a little less hard on myself, if you hadn’t done this type of content I would still be none the wiser. So thank you so much, I appreciate all your various efforts,so I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Absolutely well done for speaking about stuff most men don’t want share or confide with others how they feeling and not coping with life in general full stop. Iv got a very good mate staying with me right now whom I was worried about and together hopefully working his issues through just talking and sharing shit. I put your pod on this afternoon as no games etc to watch and was amazed that it was relating to just the very thing my mate is going is through, he Liverpool ST holder and I just told him it’s Villa pod so hard luck, watch or for walk… absolutely one the the best things he seen recently especially in reference to the anti depressant drug Ty managed to kick. Anyway well done for really real pod talking about real real problems 👏👏👍💪

Gents. Well done for talking about this. It's a hugely important topic, and men need to break out of the 'stiff upper lip, boys don't cry' mentality! You don't have to have all the answers, and you should be able to talk about stuff.
Well done for starting the conversation 👍
Also UTV ✌
Can relate to a large number of the topics raised and thank you all for being so open and honest.
Great chat lads, I’m sure this will help more people than you think who are going through something! UTV
Dan, Imposter Syndrome can be suffocating, you are legitimate and DogDad's are legit too (I trust any humand who loves animals, any animal who doesn't trust a human is a red flag too)
UTV Gang!
Excellent episode lads. It's great to see you all sharing and encouraged me to do the same!
This is quite simply the most important podcast I’ve ever listened to.
Thank you.
Amazing episode thank you for doing this lads. It actually really helps. Thank you 👊🏻👊🏻🙏🏻❤️
Brilliant, respect to you all and it's definitely not self indulgent. UTV
Brilliant episode, lads. Not at all self-indulgent, just open and honest in the best possible way.
Well done Gents. Watched it start to finish, very thought provoking. Keep up the good work and Up the MIGHTY Villa !
Well done chaps! I identified with so much of what you said, and these programmes helped keep me together during the lockdown.
You’re definitely not alone
Absolutely superb this Dan. Will help a lot of people.
Fair play lads for putting yourselves out there, being open and sharing your stories. Great episode.
This is amazing. We need more things like this for not just men.
I can too relate a few stories here this is amazing to watch. Well done all that are involved.
It’s ok too talk 👌
That was the best podcast you guys have ever done.
Wow! Thanks a lot
What a great episode listening to you all about your struggles and how you overcome them this is truly inspiring for me thank you for doing this episode. UTV
Your always going to get some negativity and life is a rollercoaster.Your all confident and decent people.rise above it and keep up the good work.UTV.
I think this is a pretty common response and I’m really glad you stuck with it
Only just caught up with this. Absolutely fantastic guys. Thanks for the openness to us all. Stick it on your Bluesky account. Peace. x
It's on there, I think!
What a great episode guy's your a credit to the villa family, just picking up on what ty mentioned, I'm 50 and can't remember the last time I didn't worry about everything, it's not a good thing to deal with, I wish I didnt 😢
Good chat Gents. Thanks for doing this
thank you for this lads... much appreciated #UTV
Forgot to comment before, but this is a great pod guys. Well done.👏👏👏💜💙
I dont normally comment either but I just wanted to say well done lads and thank you for sharing. Brilliant 👍🏼❤️
Amazing pod guys, super relatable, smashing it as always Dan 👏
Great episode chaps. Respect all round.💙💜
Thank you for sharing and being so honest . It’s not easy at times UTV🦁
Danny ❤️
Great episode 💚. Good to hear ppl, sharing. Respect to bardell, on the plant based, I agree, it's delicious 🌿💚
I try and be positive but there’s days where is a struggle to get my head of my pillow, , I hate myself and put so
My pressure on me and who I think I am . I’m in a good place and have a partner and teenager and I live my life through them and of course the Villa ( which causes its own issues hahaha ) . Any way I just want to say thank you to all of you and keep it up and this podcast made me feel ok and then feel I’m not alone x ps UTV
You’re certainly not alone Simon. Keep plugging away mate
Great show lads respect for being so open 😊 brilliant podcast 👍🏻
Referring to your phone video fail story, I watch the match live at 4am in Rockingham,Western Australia. I wanted to record the Champions League theme music, on my phone, as I was watching the TV, with the players lined up. However, as it was 4am, I didn’t want to wake the missus, so I had my headphones on, so sitting there, music blasting through my headphones, holding up my phone recording the TV, and of course the TV is muted…. 😳🙄
Great show guys UTV!
Thanks for the podcast lads. Really enjoyed it.
Thanks lads, appreciate that 💜💙
Thank you for listening ❤️
Just want to say thank you so much for sharing, it didn't come across as indulgent at all. I'm not male, but can totally relate as an anxious person. If anything it reminded me that no one is alone in their struggles and gives hope. I have had so much support from the Villa family in the past and this video sums up why. Thank you 🥹💜💙
Thanks Clare ❤️
Thanks guys for talking
Well done lads it was something that should have been done ages ago we all should remember we are human and have all sorts of thoughts and feelings
Absolutely brilliant boys, giving the viewers insight to your personal struggles is very revealing to how men can struggle in silence. Well done lads, fantastic episode 👍🏿
Thank you Wayne
Love the openness and willingness to be vulnerable by each of you, takes courage and bravery. Well done all of you.
Long time listener but never really comment. This was outstanding, fair play to all involved, i can guarantee you've helped more than one person with this
Lots of the long time listeners but don’t comment people have come out for this one. Really appreciate that
Great content. Well done lads
Thank you Nicole, appreciate that. Thanks for watching
Thanks.
We’re not going anywhere 👊🏻
Fantastic pod lads
Not a villa fan but I think Villa have the best bunch of fan channels / content creators. Top work 👍
A real compliment. Thanks Chris
Thank you for sharing lads ❤️❤️❤️
Loved this pod.
👊 Great pod UTV!
That’s a great story. Thank you for sharing
Great watch this wouldn’t mind something similar every once in awhile
Well done lads 👏👏👏. Doing my bit for the algorithm.
Legend.
Very good podcast and very relatable in parts
Fait play lads. Top class work again
I've been at my lowest point in years for the last two months. I needed this. Thank you.
Big love
Great job guys, great listen ❤
Thank you for this great episode. UTV
