Very informative, Well Done!, looking forward to your conclusions about this modification. If you haven’t already done so, I invite you to join us over at the XR1200 owners group, great bunch of people, always willing to help.
Thank you for the invite! I've already joined and yes it does seem like a great group of people. I've even recognized one of the names from the Buell boards.
Wow, nice work. I’m a big Buell fan boy. I have a 98 ST3T and a 00 Blast for the fun of it. I appreciate your videos so much. Looking forward to seeing your results.
They seemed to want the spring action to be progressive. I agree that springs with different rates but all the same length would have been better. It says right in the service manual that the assembly will rattle so I don't think it was a screw up just a poor design. Now that I know what is causing the noise I just ignore it kind of like a Ducati dry clutch.

My xb doesn’t rattle but weaker springs the same size that actually fit snug would have same affect and I’m thinking it would fix rattle also
Same as my buell its done the same thanks for the video i might weld it
I didn't like the vibration when it was solid. If you weld it you might want to find a spare basket on Ebay to experiment with.
Nice job, what’s the best primary chain maker for replacement chain?
Maybe a bit of fuel hose in the spring to hold it quite i might try that
That definitely might work.
smoothing out huge torque ripples is important. Shock loads on the transmission are not good.
True. I wouldn't have even experimented with it except for the fact that the regular Sportsters have a solid clutch basket.
Did this mod stop the rattle and keep ok over testing?
It helped with the rattle but caused a vibration that I didn't like. Here is the results video. th-cam.com/video/IL_ZUIiXhgU/w-d-xo.html
Why not just get springs that all fit snug idk just a idea seems like a screw up on Harley’s part that can’t be right
