He will always be a hero in my mind. A patriot who loved his country and just wanted to design the best rifle possible for its defence. He cannot be blamed for how its used and by whom. Thats like blaming Henry Ford for road deaths.

"That's an EPIC words from him that's totally trolled the M16 users lol"...It's also bullshit made up by him. I happened to use a variant of the m16 in afghanistan, and I've never heard of such bullshit there's no way in hell we'd pick up an ak. No need to. Any professional soldier capable of properly cleaning his weapon would have any need for a crude, inacurate ak. In fact, ak's were adequately out of range in afghanistan where several firefights would take place more than 300 yards away. In this environment, my 16 prevailed.

      - The first variant being so bad and not fit for mass produced, so they had to come up with the AKM
      - 7.62x39 accuracy at long range is generally worse than 5.56
      - So simple that you have to use non-dominant hand to change the magazine and dominant hand for pulling the charging handle
      - Despite the invincible reputation, still crumbles like cookies and the first M16 variant if handled by random pirates

Not only did he design the AK47, he designed the RPK, the Saiga, the PK, and other guns, which are all still used by almost all of the armed groups in the world, including rebel groups, paramilitaries, and special operations units, due to their cost and reliability.
Compare that with the M16, which its ammo corroded in the weather of Vietnam, causing jams, while the Vietcong was literally ambushing soldiers with AK47 guns.

The m16s in Vietnam were crap... the colt company used an aluminum fireing mechanism that failed very easily and was cheap to produce

“I am often asked this question or those close to it. But I'll tell you this, any country must defend its borders. I’ve made weapons not for attack, but for the defense of the borders of my Fatherland. And that is how it should be. And the fact that it is used in other ways is not the designer's fault. These are politicians who cannot agree peacefully without using weapons. This question can be directed at them.”
