How $1.5 Billion Was Allegedly Stolen In Pakistan | The Big Steal

  • The Bhuttos are amongst a few hundred feudal families, mostly large landowners, that have dominated politics and business in Pakistan since its creation in 1947. In the eyes of the west, Pakistan’s Benazir Bhutto was a beacon of democracy and a staunch foe of Muslim extremism, but at home, the slain opposition leader was a controversial figure, mired in allegations of corruption and accused of acquiring wealth, worth over 1.5 billion dollars.

My grandmother remembered when she came into power twice. She told me that she did nothing for women. Instead she made corruption mainstream in Pakistan. Her only achievement according to my grandmother was bring Cable/Satellite TV.

This isn't even 'casual' corruption. This is 'making my great, great, great, great, great, great, great, grandchildren' billionaires level corruption.
Some people really have no shame.
What's so jarring is that the first time I heard about Mrs Bhutto was through a BBC podcast on 'great figures' in history and they were so glowing and almost sickly. But I bought into it hard *sigh* 😔

My family was close friends with hers before we cut ties due to political differences (over Karachi). We've lived in Dubai for over 40 years and visited them at least twice in the 90s. I can confidently say that $1.5 billion is a nearly negligible fraction of what they actually plundered from Pakistan. At first, I didn't think she deserved to die the way she did, but after seeing the deprived state of interior Sindh on a trip there a few years ago, I changed my mind.

We can thank her father for that. Zia Ul Haq gets all the hate but really it was her father who started Islamatizaion of Pakistan. Her father wanted to make Pakistan into a Socialist republic but he needed the Mullahs to get his reforms through. Zia Up Haq who was unpopular at the time, decided to continue Bhutto work without Socialism.

It's because she's a woman and in both countries🇮🇳 India and Pakistan🇵🇰 the law , police , society , Media always focuses and will focus on The Men indulged in crimes, corruption, murders and all that but when women take the charge whether it's Benazir , Mariyam Nawaz or any other powerful female . Every watchful eye suddenly turns into a blind eye as if it doesn't understand.
The thing you'll hear from everyone is "hamare ghar me bhi maye behne hai"
"Khatoon hai mai baat nai karunga" and so the list goes on
It's our men who need protection from the instruments of state which are always used against the Male figure but not the women .

I’m an american muslim and not only is there garbage and trash everywhere in New York, but rodents and poor people peeing and pooping on the street and gang members shooting people. Also people who want to hurt you for being Muslim…. No where is better for a muslim than a muslim country. I wish my parents stayed in their homeland

I am not sure what's the point here; do you actually believe that you can apply power with having financial means? Don't you think that Pakistan is living an inside war since decades now? How do you make things better if you have any cash to keep key people of power under your influence? You cannot ask for batter place on one side and cut all your means to get to your goals at the same time.
