Fun fact: while the stg was an influence to the design of the ak47, the main influence was an m1 garand, while they don’t look similar, their mechanics are very similar
I was gonna say; while the Sturmgewehr influenced the basic layout and intermediate rifle cartridge concept, the gas system and action of the AK has a lot more in common with the Garand. (Long stroke piston with a rotating bolt that has 2 locking lugs) As a side note, look at the safety lever on a Remington Model 8 and tell me that doesn’t look a little familiar lol
asgsg gasfs I remember seeing a video of a man firing an AK until the wood on it caught on fire and it completely burned away. He then kept firing it until the bolt stopped working. To fix this issue he let the weapon cool. Took it apart saw the barrel was slightly bent. Repeatedly banged it against a table, until fixed and fired a drum mag through it, and it was completely fixed.

@@swietoslaw no it isn't? It's pretty accurate to what the russians went through with their AKs. the original AK-47 was very much a flawed weapon that needed improvements to some very important parts (like the early m16s). So my high school in Vietnam sends us to a military training center for one week every year, and in my 2nd year we got to study and tinker with these. As students in a country where firearms are illegal to civillians, we were understandably excited when we got to hold these with our own hands. The AK has this sort of allure and ominousness to it. We were holding a real weapon of war in our hands, we were supposed to fear it, yet here we stood, admiring how oddly beautiful it looked and how satisfyingly hefty it felt on our hands. The gun was incredibly easy to work on as well. Us inexperienced high school students could dissasemble then reassembled it in under 30 seconds. It truly is such a wonderful weapon that I'm a bit dissapointed that I may never get to hold it in my hands again

Funny thing about the AK47 is that actual AK47s are pretty rare today. If you were to find an actual, honest to Kalashnikov himself factory-"new" AK47, you could get rich selling that off. Majority of the 7.62mm AKs you find in the hands of irregulars and really elsewhere, are AKMs, which was the variant of the AK that was mass produced at absurdly high numbers for the Soviet armed forces.

As an owner I can say it’s got some kick. The accuracy you see in video games on full auto is optimistic at best. The penetration and stopping power of the 7.62 isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Not all enemies stand in front of you. Most people hide behind stuff when you shoot at them. The ak74 allowed for a much higher ammo capacity to be carried per soldier due to the smaller size and weight. This increasing their fighting effectiveness.
AK on full auto really doesn't have that much recoil at all. I have shot them. Granted you aren't going to be hammering a 10cm target at 400 yards on full auto, but it's absolutely stable enough in closer distances. AK-74 on the other hand with the muzzle brake is incredible, less recoil than a AR, that thing is a laserbeam even full auto.

It's shit though, ya your not gonna hit 1" groups, but you definitely can do 5" at 200 yards. AKs aren't nearly as inaccurate as pop culture makes them out to be. No rifle in full auto is accurate.
@@JM-bb8xi The AKM as any other rifle should be zeroed ! It's a fine rifle, it's just that most people don't zero it because of the "you can throw it in the mud and let it there 15 years and it'll still work just fine" bullshit
"Strapping anything superfluous to the weapon is an insult to the design principles of Kalashnikov" The 'dove tail' system that Kalashnikov himself added for the gun:Am I a joke to you?

The scene in that movie where they are standing inside a room full of AK-47s in Eastern Europe... those are REAL AK-47s. The film crew found out that buying a lot of real AK-47s in Easter Europe for the movie set was actually cheaper than getting fake props from Hollywood.

Dude, I think you messed up the quote. I think it's supposed to be "if the day doesn't require an AK-47, then it is a bad day" I mean, what kind of bad day would it be if it had an AK47 in it?!?!?!
Based on what it's good at, I think it would mean fighting for 12 hours straight in an urban environment with heavy winds and freezing temperature, which does sound like a shitty day. Then again I don't know the original quote but either way makes sense in different ways.
The StG 44 is similar to the AK only in appearances. The gas system and lock-up of the AK-47 is much more akin to that of the M1 Garand. In fact, the gas system of an M1 Garand is basically the same as an AK, except it's upside down. Kalashnikov even talks about the inspiration in his book, and most of the inspiration for the AK came from the Garand. Not a diss to the StG 44, it basically reinvented the rifle, and it is the first "assault rifle" ever made, and it's probably untrue to say that the AK isn't partially inspired from the StG. But people have a tendency to say that the AK is nearly a carbon copy of the StG. It was mostly inspired by the Garand.
Funny story about the end of the video my grandfather has an ak pattern rifle (Not fully automatic) and there was a problem and... we hit it with a hammer and got it to work (The bolt wouldn't go back all the way)

Then again I don't know the original quote but either way makes sense in different ways.
today i didn't even have to use my ak today was a good day....
+Joseph White You don't get it. It's a reference to Ice Cube's song "Today Was A Good Day"
The StG 44 is similar to the AK only in appearances.

It's the world's most popular assault rifle. A weapon all fighters love. An elegantly simple 9 pound amalgamation of forged steel and plywood. It doesn't break, jam, or overheat. It'll shoot whether it's covered in mud or filled with sand. It's so easy, even a child can use it; and they do. The Soviets put the gun on a coin. Mozambique put it on their flag.
