      I bought the AK12 a few years ago. Apparently these are a hard rifle to find in the U.S. It is a fun rifle & has a lot less recoil than the AK47/74, etc. It’s a great option for shooting hog & drops them with one shot every time. (Almost) I find that with the 5.56 round i need to tap them twice. I had a bar hog get up & take off with a bullet in its head. I trapped him 2 weeks later & despite a good shot, he was still full of beans. The AK just drops the suckers

      Gulf 2, I was there.
      Lethality wasn't as issue, we have plenty of bigger calibers, and plenty of ammo, and they weren't wearing armor.

    On the gun itself, Ak-74 is accurate enough for the regular infantryman. No need to invest huge amount of money for a very marginal improvement in accuracy, if any. Especially considering the type of environment where is supposed to be used. But its great for the special forces who use it in very specific situations where individual accuracy plays a bigger role.

    The reason why the An-94 won the akban trials was because the first two shots were 1800 rounds per minute while standard fire rate was 600 rounds per minute. So the first two shots could hit the target before the enemy could shoot their gun. The sad thing is that they never made a modern AN-94 variant.

Inside it is terribly complicated, with some cables and double loading. It has it funky 2-round burst hitting one spot, but it is not enough to justify its other shortcomings. And price, over 1000$ per gun in 1994 must have been total astronomical.

You can go around massacring civilians while you are clearing rooms and dig out the bullets later like US special forces but that doesn't make a successful tactics a "success" because winning battle isn't winning the war or even just the priority mission. if it is a strategic failure - especially if many of your troops die in a mere diversion - thats not a success, thats desperation. Did Ukrainians succeed in taking back their airport? Yes. Would russians have held it if reinforcements came, maybe even forever so they can negotiate for it after the war? Probably. Your commanders realizing it was a wasted effort afterwards doesn't take away from the operators skills and ability to clear objectives. Its not the soldiers fault their commanders rely on cannon fodder and WW1 style mass deployments even with specialized infantry. Again, the operation can be a failure even if the operators were successful, and thats a strategic failure that lies purely with the chain of command not with the fault of Special Forces executing bad commands successfully.

This head garment has its origins in the Caucasus region, associated with several local ethnic groups, and similar garments have subsequently been used with modifications by different Cossacks groups, and seen use in the Russian Imperial army in the past (by Cossack units), but they have otherwise little to do with ethnic Russian (Slavic) culture/tradition per se. One pretty well known modern days athlete who uses this headdress is the MMA fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov who is of Avar ethnicity from the Caucasus region (Russia's Republic of Dagestan).

Except for people from rural areas, especially shepherds and older generations, these garments are normally used mostly at "folkloric events" or otherwise to take pics by younger generations, not as regular everyday headdress anyway. 4.During the Chechen Wars, ethnic nationalism/undertones to the conflicts ran high, so it was more likely and common for Chechen fighters to take photos of themselves posing with a piece of garment that would stress their cultural belonging and ethnic pride, rather than for a Russian Federal Army soldier to do so "for giggles".

    My favourite of the Abakan weapons is the TKB-0146. Largely a normal bullpup, funni little feed system but nothing unprecedented (if you include artillery).
    It was a runner up to the AN94, losing to it on the grounds of it being too complicated. An exploded view of the internal parts shows that might be code for "it doesnt look like an AK".

    Russian air assault on Gostomel was not a failure, VDV did exactly what was expected from them. They occupied the airport and kept it, defending it all the time till order came to leave. l mean occupying an enemy airport in their capital city can not be considered an failure by any standard, Russian military operation in Kiev did fail overall but Gostomel air assault as one smaller element of entire operation was successful, a victory that could not be exploited with out other elements.

    AK-74 was (and still is) known to be MORE controllable compared to M-16 in automatic fire. Mechanical accuracy was to be within Russian equivalent of 5MOA which is near-lineball to US requirement for army rifles. The reason behind starting works on increasing accuracy had to do with increasing hit probability from UNSTABLE POSITIONS. AK-74 has a pattern of behavior in burst fire: first round on target, second high and to the right, third close to target but still higher and to the right. If held in a certain way, that behaviour is reduced, but when in an instable position (prone on a side, half-crouch on the move, quick pop-up shooting) it's not feasible, and that is something Russians wanted to improve upon.
    US moving away from full-auto proved to be a useless idea: they returned back to it in M-4A1
    GRAU designation. Basically Russian equivalent to US "M" designations for military equipment.
    Actual reason for A545 and A762 being issued to SpetsNaz only is simple: those guys are trained sufficiently well to be able to take advantage of the lower-recoiling weapon. It's a long-proven fact that in most cases, soldiers can't fully realize the existing mechanical accuracy of their service rifles in combat due to combat stress and general firing skill. As a result the simple logic dictates that the extra precision would be simply lost on them as they'd not be able to realize the potential.
    Given the relative size of the general infantry vs SpetsNaz, it stands to reason why that's the case that so few were ordered compared to AK-12.
    The rifle shown doesn't feature a suppressor. It's actually simply a LONGER muzzle brake compensator.
    As to your comment that combat shifted to long-range accurate single-shot fire? Sorry dude but that applies only to Afghanistan and its long-distances. Engagements in Ukraine shown otherwise: LOTS of close-range combat indeed. Absolute SHITTON of forest combat where ranges are less than 40 yards, many simple point-blank. In fact the only time when long-range fire is used is at extended-distance street fighting when enemy has a high position on top of or at high floors of a building. Out in the open field, it's mostly automatic grenade launchers and artillery.
    Military combat ranges vary wildly and as a former infantryman you should know that depending on location it can be either 20 feet, 500 yards and everything in between.

    • @Max_Da_G
      @Max_Da_G 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@appartinaappartina-izola8732 Complexity isn't actually all that much more than on AKs. The disassembly method isn't difficult to grasp either. Remember, A545 was designed to re-arm the entire Russian military, given that it was submitted to Ratnik trials as a contestant to be the next INFANTRY weapon. So it was meant to be used and abused by the said general infantry from the get go. All Russian firearms are subjected to the now-infamous set of tests: rain chamber, silicon dust chamber, -57F/-50C chamber, multiple drops from 5ft/1.5m high onto barrel, magazine, top of the receiver, stock and charging handle. All of which it must pass with flying colours. So A545/A762 can be issued to general infantry. But as you correctly said, all that would indeed cost far more than doing what they do now, and that extra cost also was a consideration behind the decision.
      Maintenance? The only increase in complexity and maintenance would be the synchro gears and the balancer mechanism, testing which wouldn't require any more than a length measuring device and a set of field gauges which armorers would be getting. Technologically it was perfectly feasible to equip Russian military with those rifles. Price wise it's not unfeasible either: a whole lot of money was being spent and rifles were far from the most expensive item in the grand scheme of things.
      Another thing is that Russian infantrymen aren't all that careless with their equipment. It's a stigma given to them which grows from officers growing up not having much and not wanting soldiers to break things that will be needed in war. So they refused to give soldiers equipment citing the carelessness, yet care for the weapon is INSTILLED if the NCOs and officers are at least decent at their jobs. Generally I was very caring about the rifle that I was issued, but during my last couple of weeks in rookies I was running, tripped over something in tall grass and my rifle went flying out of my hands and rolling stock-over-barrel for good few meters. Does that make me a careless soldier? I'd like to think that no, it doesn't. By the way, the rifle was Steyr AUG, and if worked fine after that. Though whether the sight kept the zero I don't know since we finished our quals and did blank fire exercises at the time.

The recoil is mitigated by having springs that prevent the bolt carrier group from slamming against the back of the gun. It gently glides back

      Constant recoil = it doesn't touch the back but the first shot will still jump up. The mp40 is also constant recoil
      AK balance recoil = two pieces smack the gun forward while the bolt smacks backwards and they cancel out.
      Balanced recoil is probably less reliable and a very heavy system. Constant recoil is only useful for guns that are meant to only fire in full auto such as machine guns

    In the newer A545/ Kord 6P67 and in its other derivatives have simplified counter balancing recoil system in which the two counter moving pistons are concentric i.e. one inside the other so now when disassembled the whole working mechanism can be taken out in a single piece like in AK. So beside the counter balancing recoil system, the bolt carrier group is similar to AK while external is made out of stamped steel. So I think it is simplified and provides enough performance improvement to warrant adoption. With optics attached and with its low recoil it will be easier to hit fleeting targets while also more accurate in rapid semi auto. But the Russian Military doesn't have the money to do so. Instead of wasting money on AK12 they could have gotten AK74 parts modernisation like M4 sopmod while replacing it completely or supplementing it with A545 later. The original Abakan intention was to give AEK971 to everybody while spestnaz and other special units get AN94. But the thing is AN94's hyper burst is more beneficial to regular troops while its maintenance requires the skill of elite troops and is much more expensive. So they should have selected AEK971 for further development while making do with modernised AK74 as mentioned above. One of the reasons for AN94 complication is the whole mechanism doesn't have enough space to achieve mechanical simplicity, during the trials there was another rifle Stechkin's TKB-0146 which has a hyper burst and was in third place in Abakan trials but was rejected because it was bullpup. Similarly before the Ratnik trials there is A-91m family of rifles which has been under production and use. Also they have much better simple conventional design like Dragonov MA which is being now developed to replace 9x39 family of firearms and also the ultra compact AKS74U. For 21st century Russians have much better options than AK12 but to cling on to their Kalashnikov heritage lead to wastage of money which can be better put to buying optics for everybody which can be mounted even without picatanny rail using Russian side mount and by adding rails over the handguard.

    • @alijankhan3330
      @alijankhan3330 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Lol I read they don't issue optics because the troops just sell them. Russians gon Russian. Anyway, the Dragunov you're talking about in 9*39, is that the AMB 17? There's also an AM 17, one is in 9*39 and the other is 5.45*39

    • @TakNuke
      @TakNuke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@alijankhan3330 If soldiers are paid shit then they will sell whatever issued to them especially conscripts, this problem was also in ANA and ANP. Even if the Russian Military has money it's generals are conservative in issuing optics even if the unit is a professional i.e. they are well trained, motivated, treated and paid. This type of mentality is only cured by showing the effectiveness of the said equipment by elite units. But the disaster on the airborne airport assault led to the lowering of trust on special mission units. Instead more politically loyal units are well equipped whose effectiveness cannot be verified.
      Regarding the Dragnouv MA design yes I mean both the improved derivative of it AM17 and AMB19.

Some of these tests found QC problems and that the counter recoil system wasn't really all that effective and most of the work was done by the muzzle device. I remember this thing being rejected because of the overly complex system and high cost of manufacture.
    Also, some reports say that the internal mechanisms designed to reduce the recoil are pretty much pointless because the massive muzzle break is the one doing the majority of the work when it comes to removing recoil.

    I've got an AR in 556 that has almost no recoil at all. It's a mid length gas system with an A2 rifle stock. Makes an extremely balance rifle system. Tried the A2 because the forward weight of the upper. Even if it was my only rifle I'd be extremely happy with it.

    AEK and AN are completely different guns. AN-94 is indeed a part of Abakan Project, whilst AEK-971 was developed for Ratnik Project.
    AEK is indeed used only in military specops (as well in other Russian SOs), while AN-94 was deployed to regular military as well as to SO units. I happen to know a guy, who in his time in the Army was assigned with AN-94.

    After besieging Shanghai and zavod plants, this weapon is brilliant, but i still prefer the Famas for high rate of fire and better burst groups.

    Knight's Armament Light Assault Machine Gun (LAMG) is a constant recoil mechanism. The 5.56x54mm version is even more manageable than the 7.62mm weapon, which is already insanely controllable.
