As a CA home owner that has had to make major work to get it up to code, I can confirm, tough on taxpayers, easy on the homeless and criminals.
Friend of mine from California bought a house in Texas. Went to get his remodel permit armed with his drawings. "That'll be $325." "Don't you want to see my drawings?" "What for? It's your house."
Your property assessment goes up by the increase in value of the remodel or addition. What is that additional tax being spent on? The biggest fraud with government is how money is spent.
Example of Safety Overkill. I ran an Asbestos Crew working at the Case Tractor Plant in Racine, WI. Because they were about 40’ up, they had full safety harness with. 6’ lanyard they could tie themselves off. Their Safety Officer said this wasn’t good enuf. I had to provide them with a 8’ belt that they would tie off & hook their lanyard to that.
Currently,if they had fell, they would drop 2-3’ b4 their lanyard would catch, now they would fall at least 10’, THRU the piping & structural work.
But they refused my reasoning on their “Perception” of added safety.
Asbestos was put into 3000+ materials. Anything with 1% or more was considered Asbestos Containing. I did removal, crew Supervisor, & Inspector. And most of the time with floor tiles, it’s the Mastic gluing them down that has it.
I work on construction (remod) sites in Texas from time to time and can confirm, drywall stilts still being used a lot here.
I agree I had no fear of COVID and everyone around me was like shaming me for not freaking out. It was such a strange time. Still upset about that time in my life.
Oh, it's not over man. It could happen again overnight. All they have to do is declare an emergency and the sheep will be right back at it. The problem is that no one shames THEM. only us

Yeah, I remember I was had an outdoor forest preserve and passed people wearing masks that were over 10 feet away from me and they were giving me the dirtiest look because I didn’t have a mask on I’m fucking outside you dimwits and I’m not even near you, it was horrible. It was an excuse for assholes to be assholes which we know they love.

Some parts of how it was handled were bs though, such as Fauci receiving payments from the drug companies, he’s not the good guy he pretended to be.

My dad was the head of the asbestos removal team at the AF base in NY in the late 80s, early 90s.He said that it's not harmful until you start messing with it, tearing it out, creating a powder that is inhaled.
In California they need to put the fear of going to prison back on the books. Fear does work.

How dare you sir. Weird Al is a national treasure. Yeah, some of his early stuff was rather schmaltzy, but Amish Paradise? White & Nerdy? Stuck in the Drive-thru? Those were ingenious. Some of the biggest stars thought it was an honor to be parodied by Weird Al, and his career has lasted longer than most he’s parodied.

The horse sense analogy is pretty accurate. We’ve rounded most of the sharp edges of life here in the US and now we’re dealing with people who are almost entirely removed from the harsh realities of life.
That’s how we got adults who believe that mean words are the worst thing on earth, as they use derogatory words and analogies or or vile labels to describe you if you don’t fully agree with their world view.

If you think that is gay, here in Oregon, they're making us switch from hard hats to those dumb bicycle rubble rescue helmets that they wear in the middle east when they have to dig people out of earthquakes and bombings. Before long, I'm sure they'll want us to wear the 1/8" thick plastic body armor 5 yr olds use in paintball.

I did that, I got a garden sprayer, put drop clothes on the floor than put the plastic down and taped the plastic about 2 feet up on the walls and sprayed just water on the asbestos ceiling scraped the ceiling, rolled up the plastic and threw it in the dumpster. Let the drywall dry 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint and done
Adam: re the safety issue, there’s a term for it: “diminishing marginal returns”. Each extra increment of improved safety costs more than the last.

I think the hydrating after the massage thing is that the force of the massage does deplete your muscles of water and you may cramp up if dehydrated.
As far as the asbestos deaths go, it makes more sense to use the mesothelioma death rate in those who had a known asbestos exposure. The secondhand smoke thing is tricky because it typically won't kill directly (unless it triggers an asthma attack or some other respiratory distress), but there is a higher association with lung cancer in those exposed to it
Disagree on Weird Al, he didn't invent the parody song, but no one does it better, plus he has a lot of originals too. With his career longevity, innovation with music videos, and Grammys, he deserves to be the rock n' roll of fame
You won’t cramp. But if you don’t hydrate (and most people are not taking in enough water to begin with) you’re going to feel like crap the next day.
I told clients to hydrate, do some vitamin C and stretch all those muscles that I worked on. Do not favor it stretch it and massage it. Retired now . 😢

Lol love this. As a new construction plumber that worked in LA until a year ago (moved thank God) I can 100% confirm all the permit/ inspection grift. Also in residential construction/ remodel the shirt over the face and squint eye chop saw safety protocol is still the industry standard😂... asbestos is not good but it's guys in shipyards and HVAC with long term heavy exposure that get f-d up with mesothelioma, not homeowners doing a kitchen remodel. Maybe pajama journeymen too.

I just want to say, Adam my mother was the same except more mentally ill, the same with my father. Now imagine you have that but it’s multiple times worse and they’re overtly abusive and physical instances like throwing actual bricks at you and attacks as well. But at age 16 they force you on pills you don’t need, well known to have severe side effects, and then what? You end up with a body that doesn’t work and people think you’re lazy and all the inversion of reality … I wasn’t lazy I was very smart and discipline but I had mentally ill nutjobs for parents and my body is still fd and nobody acknowledged anything.
But Adam and nobody supports or believes me .. ever.. and with manipulation so good from my mom and dad I never had a chance. 30 years later and the only obstacle is financial, to allow me to work from a house because I want to work whichever way that I can figure out despite what’s against me and on and on. I’ve pushed myself to do a lot and paid a lot for it but people only see q what they want to see and this never matters.
But anyway I can relate to the parenrs being very similar in mentality to mine but Adam doesn’t understand how much worse it could have been. He could have been trapped with them for eternity and why is there no mercy or compassion for me EVER ????

Adam, there is no asbestos in brake pads. asbestos was phased out in 1999. That’s why we have to change our brakes 2-3 times a year.

Tyrus would make a great middle school teacher at least for social studies. If you watch the movie 'Gangs of New York' you'll see how the Irish, the Polish and everyone not English were treated. We saw the movie when my boys were 12 & 13, it was a great lesson on prejudice. There's always a new group that gets treated like crap until they work their way up then another group shows up. I never understood the asbestos grift it’s in your house you’ve been living in the house for fifty years but it’s so dangerous you have to pay to have it removed and they have to water it down and bring in ventilation equipment and put up plastic and everyone has to have full body suits and respirators but the people that lived in the house didn’t have to do anything and don’t get cancer.
