Guided Mindfulness Meditation on Feeling Alone - Isolated or Lonely

  • This is a new guided mindfulness meditation on loneliness and feeling alone. In this session, we will focus on finding a deep sense of peace within ourselves, even when we may be missing loved ones or a pet who we wish were there to be with us and provide comfort in our most vulnerable times. It is also possible to feel lonely and isolated even when there are many people in our lives. Meditating on this will help us to realize that feelings of loneliness can be a natural occurrence. But, if we practice mindfulness, it will help us to be more present and at peace, better able to cope with whatever situation we find ourselves in.
Let the dialogue and ambient music soundtrack guide you. There are about 11 minutes of guided meditation and then 3 additional minutes of silent meditation to end the session. You are not alone!
This video was created as part of a research grant project at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Thank you to Clinical Social Worker Alison Noyes for sharing her expertise on the subject of mental health.

I am lonely for many reasons. Infidelity destroyed my marriage. I contacted (3) fatal STDs, which have destroyed my ability to love again, along with turning 65, and l am a companion to my 94 year old mother, so I still wear 😷 masks and I have no community, on top of that, I am agnostic, but I feel overwhelmed by Christianity which caused me PTSD & Trauma. I also can not walk my daughters puppy because there are alligators in the canal behind my backyard that come out onto the grass and the property, so I am always in fear and on high alert about that and on top of everything else I have nightmares every night. So this is a tough life that I'm living and not living well.

Loneliness and isolation was a huge problem during the worst of Covid, but just because the situation is better, doesn't mean that many do not struggle with these feelings! Whether you lost a loved one, are far away from friends or family, or miss a pet, this session is made to help us better understand feelings of loneliness and find a deeper sense of inner peace. 🧘 Thank you for joining me!

      Hi Virginia -
I’m sorry things are going that way .
I have struggled with the same thing my whole life and I have to wonder and I often think that I don’t make it that way, but I really do have to wonder-“ if ((we do))make it that way”?? ((unconsciously…))
I myself am afraid to commit to anything because of the past, not working out, so so so many times, my guess is we’re going to have to let go of that fear, and do it again and again, and again, no matter how much it hurts again and again and again, until it feels good again and again and again…. Your acquaintance- who we really are. J

My husband died two years ago and I am alone. We met late in life. We have very few relatives and they live in another country.

I’ve felt isolated and depressed on and off my entire life especially around my family. I’m not connected to them anymore due to abuse and many reasons.
Last year I went into deep depression after the loss of my dog. I started my healing/ spiritual journey.
I was feeling good most of this month May 2024 but not having family or friends is difficult and for some reason it really hit me today. I feel that most of the ppl around me are on very different paths and don’t understand me. I sound crazy explaining my spiritual journey to them so I isolate.
Thank you for this meditation and for all these comments. I don’t feel so alone now.

Thank you for this. I found a friend recently, but their emotional bandwith is already stretched so thin that I guess there just isn't much room for a friend, only an acquaintance. That's just how it's been, hoping and wishing for a friend, find a potential friend, get to know them, they sorta get to know me, then somehow I'm left with more emotional baggage than I had before knowing them, like they just needed a non-committal emotion dump so they can just get on with whatever they were doing. I feel like I'm wandering a desert of solitude and I keep seeing mirages that look like friends.

Thank you for helping me along that path.

I’m another responder who wants to mention your meditation on Joy; it was 7 years ago I was diagnosed with MS and I found your Joy meditation. It was incredibly uplifting and reassuring when I most needed it! Seven years on and I initially ignored this meditation, thinking: ‘I’m not lonely’ But then I was jolted by the realisation that I can feel agonisingly lonely in having MS. Those times when I’m the odd one out in the group, or am perhaps failing in trying to explain what it’s like; the worst being when I feel my husband doesn’t get it! (Not often I’m glad to say! He’s a star and I couldn’t do it without him!) So, I’ve just done this meditation and immediately felt the benefit. Seven years of living with MS and seven years of your wonderful meditations to enjoy and assist my life as a person with this disease.
      Thank you.

I myself would like to just thank you for this meditation.
A lot of the times I think well, these people are making money off of this stuff so they’re here for that reason but, you’re also helping so many people.
I didn’t think after 40 years of practicing this stuff that another meditation would help me, but this particular meditation really helped me on a particularly horrible Holiday weekend where I just felt like OK, I’m gonna be alone again…. So thank you so hugely
DO YOU understand -when we say thank you it’s not just thank you -
you changed everything moving forward ((for days ))for another human being. Who feels they are suffering.
    Thank you again. ❤🎉

Allow me to share what I imagined. I imagined being on my father's old property. Still alone but it was different this time. I wasn't lonely. The rain beating on a tin roof as a sat on his front porch made from plywood, staples, an old oak tree turned into support beams for the overhang, and all held together by hope. Johnny Cash and Marty Robbins was playing on his old analog radio. The sky looked as if it had opened up to expose the universe in all of its beauty. I could see stars, planets, galaxies. All for me to behold and witness. I saw the bonfire pit with the warmest looking fire burning as if it were actively trying to spite the rain. I could hear the creeking of the old chair I would sit in with every movement and shift I made. This was my space and I urge all of you to share yours, as describing it helped my better picture it.
