I really dig the chopped cheese, but I felt that the Pastrami was a bit more iconic and less similar to the Philly Cheesesteak (also in that East Coast video). I did make this tho, you might like it - th-cam.com/users/shortsdoa4D76ynC4

Interesting note: The Italian sandwich won, but the hybrid at the end had only the oil and vinegar and oregano from it. Most was Cubano, Italian Beef, and Tri Tip meat .
This is not a dig on the final ranking, this is more a what's a versatile ingredient. Italian sub is a singular magic sandwich. The rest can play with others well.

You should do the same thing again, just with sandwiches that either didn't make the cut or weren't suggested. Buffalo Chicken cheesesteak, Italian Roast Pork, Chopped Cheese, Meatball sub,
the other lobster roll, bagel and lox, Spiedie, etc There is a million of them. Or since you love Pork roll/Taylor ham, a series focused on regional breakfast meat sandwiches (which can also include things like Scrapple).

Great series! As a fellow Chicagoan that has spent a fair amount of time on the East Coast, your choices make a ton of sense. For a random meal fix/flavor bomb it's hard to beat an Italian Beef with peppers... Similar for the Cubano or Philly Cheesesteak too. But a proper Italian Hoagie/Sub/Grinder, etc. is flavorful but fresh and something I could easily eat for Breakfast, a quick lunch, or a dinner; it's just crazy well-rounded and doesn't leave you feeling tired and greasy.
Would love to see an international version of this Sandwich series now that the US is done. I think something like a Banh Mi would score high with you due to the flavorful meats and fresh veggies.

I agree with this winner. I'm from South Louisiana so a po-boy is kinda my favorite "of all time" or whatever, maybe kinda like your love for the Italian beef but I bring deli meat to my restaurant job and use other ingredients to make Italian subs all the time. I literally eat them like 3 times a week and never get tired of it. That's truly the mark of a great sandwich

    • @halycon404
      @halycon404 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It's balanced. A lot of sandwiches have some overwhelming property to them which is what makes them what they are. I love po-boys, but to me they are defined by the bread and the sauce. There's 10 different versions and they are all valid from the origin of the sandwich which were given away for free with whatever was cheap. Only the bread and sauce stayed the same. I love a cuban, but it's the rich smoked pulled pork cut by the mustard and pickles which makes it. If I'm not in for something that heavy I don't want one. Same for an italian beef. But an italian hero? A good one is everything. A good one will hit every single checkmark of what I want out of a sandwich without being too much of any one thing. Oh. And it's the easiest one to make. A child can make a good hero. And a sandwich should above all be easy. Otherwise what are we doing.

Love that "hoagie spread", aka "cherry pepper relish". I swear by Jersey Mike's over all other chain sub spots because of it, haha. Semi-related, have you been to Novi's Beef in Berwyn? It's personally my favorite beef in the Chicagoland area ESPECIALLY because of their hot giardiniera. It's practically a beautiful marriage of "normal" giardiniera and "hoagie spread". Try it out and make it yourself!

I like the idea of doing European, Asian, African sandwiches. But if other countries have as diverse a list of sandwiches as the U.S. which I assume they do, you will miss out on so many.
It would take far longer but would be far more interesting to do episodes by regions.
    The Mediterranean
    Northern europe
    ,Scandinavia
    Southern Africa
    The pacific
    Etc.
If you are looking for a nearly eternal series do the two most popular from each country to find national winners, then compare by region
