I was born and raised in Chicago, now residing in Las Vegas, and I always regret that I didn't get a chance to visit a lot of the amazing restaurants back home. The Chicago food scene is god-tier.
I was born and raised in Chicago. I call Florida home now, but Chicago will always hold a special place in my heart! This was my favorite pizza place! It was called UNO’s Chicago Pizza and Oven Ginder. Thanks for sharing your recipe. I will have to try it soon! My hubby is a wonderful cook. He shared you FB Page with me. Maybe he’ll cook the Pizza Pie for me😂!
20 years ago when I went to DePaul, I lived right in the apartments across the street from here. Back then they had an old man who would seat you by your face, you gave him NO name or anything, he just remembered who came first by your face. It was pretty impressive.
I was going to relay the same exact story. He would ask you how many in your party, tell you how long of a wait and point you to the bar if you wanted. Once it was your time he would come over and get you and lead you over to your table. It just added to the entire experience.
We loved the pizza at CPOGC! It was so much fun and the place was a great experience. BUT, the Mediterranean bread was one of the top 5 best appetizers I've ever eaten. Thanks for the vid!
oven grinders is honestly such a fantastic restaurant. The pizza bowl is good, but honestly having went there over 20 times I gotta say the sandwiches and mediterranean bread are what keep me going back once or twice a year.
When I was at Illinois Tech in the late 70's, this was always the go to place to eat before heading over to the Park West for a great concert! Glad they've kept it just the same! Doorknob sized mushrooms was the only thing one could change, if not a fan. The salads were always great too. Thanks for the recipe, I'll hafta try this at home now! CP&OG just rocks.
One trick I learned from my dad when it comes to crumbling up ground meats in a pan is to use one of those wire potato mashers...it's like the quickest and most consistent way to make ground meat as chunky or as fine of crumbles as you want...
As a Chicagoan living in AZ- I crave this often! So glad to see you recreate this, their Mediterranean bread is a sleeper though, a MUST have accompaniment!
Born & raised in Chi-town too. Been there many times. Good stuff as it’s different. “Ain’t” nothing like Chicago pizza. We have it all…deep dish, thin, stuffed and pies like this one. Thanks for sharing.
I made this with everything listed and it turned out beyond delicious! The cheese is fantastic, I had to order it online since no one i n Toledo carries it. It was really worth it, very flavorful. Thank you for your time & efforts. My Best ~ Joe
@@nedlyest My friend you would never ever be able to pull your concealed carry out in time to save yourself . They would have your car, phone ,wallet and your gun before you knew what hit you. Oh and you would probably not need any of that stuff because you are dead.
The Pizza Pot Pie looks delicious! My mom is originally from Chicago. So there is love to the Windy City! I looked for the Dis ord Channel but didn't seem 4find it, I'd gladly join if I could find it. ❤❤
I went to school in Chicago, graduating in 1979. At that time, Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder was considered one of the 5 best pizzas in the city. I was walking with a friend one day and passed the place. We decided to go in. It was the only time I ate there but I still remember it as one of the best pizzas I ever ate. Mark Murphy, the Food Network chef, did a podcast on it a few years ago. He also said it was one of the best pizzas he ever ate.
There was a place, in Tulsa Oklahoma in the 70s, called My Pii. They made Chicago style pizza. It was delicious. In 2010 I discovered Portillo's in Orlando. Their pizzas are great. I have lived in a small town in Texas for the past 7 years. I have to make my pizzas from scratch. They are a lot of work for one person so I don't make the often. But, they are a special treat when I do.🤤😋
Tip, fast way to break up ground meat/sausage.. Use a potato masher... Not the ricer...a masher the wire one shaped like a bunch of squished S's works great and leaves larger pieces... I want to try this reciepe looks so good and the sauce is how I make my homemade pasta sauce minus the fish sauce...
Best pizza I ever had Chicago pizza and grinder Co. Get the original..trust me. If I'm not mistaken, they simmer their sauce for 16 hrs. The mushrooms are the original style 😋
In all the universe, there exists no hotter or molten an object than a fresh pizza pot pie out of the oven. An object so scorching hot that the radiant heat has melted cutlery.
Thanks for posting this video. This is a fun dish to share with others. Also your recipe for dough makes extra. I know that this is an adaption of your Sicilian dough, so what can I use any remain dough for and how long will it last in the refer? Cheers
I make less common pot pies also sometimes.. id love to see your take on one of mine.. it's a ham/corn/broccoli/potato chowder loaded with cheddar and muenster cheese
Just found your channel Pizza Pot Pie. Oh my God, that looks incredible but I would have to get up the nerve to try to make that myself that looks incredibly. Just found your channel Pizza Pot Pie. In all my times having gone to the Oven Grinder, this is the first time I've seen someone put a hunk to mouth without fork - well played I do like the sicilian crust variation (having made this at home with 16 oz ramekins) will be trying my next time at home
This looked amazing. Question, can i make dpugh without salt? Can you do a video on how to properly make dough without salt please. I have CKD. I make my sauce homemade from red peppers. Its really good.
Almost reminds me of the kitchen sink pizza from JJ's pizza shack from NW Indiana. If you get the chance to visit the Indiana part of greater Chicagoland id recommended stopping at a few of the locations. While not the most appealing name their Kitchen Sink pizzas are a great experience
Another great video! But I’m still mad at you for using canned Skyline Chili in your regional hotdog video. Cincinnati deserves better. We have so little.
Fellow resident of the Queen City here. I think almost everyone on TH-cam doesn’t do it justice. Maybe just one of those things you have to born here to appreciate.
You had a great opportunity staring you right in the face! I would fill those mushroom caps with some Ricotta, put a whole black olive stuffed with a jalapeño sliver in a bed of goat cheese into it leaving those flavor bombs lurking in the Pizza Pot Pie....but thats me.
It’s so hard to watch this while drooling and crying at the same time 😂 I don’t know why I torture myself (I’m celiac)! Right before being diagnosed I told my neurologist that he better hope the test comes back negative for celiac because I’m a glutton for gluten! After about a minute of really intense silence he started laughing 😂 I would give one of my kids to be able to have gluten again and not be sick for weeks! This looks so incredible and I swear I can smell the yeasty dough!!
20 years ago you could walk right into this place even on weekends. now it's 2 hour waits. which means.... it's really good. btw the real star here is the mediterranean bread, it's a must.
Hi. I made the dough last night.. making the pizza tonight, can’t wait to try it!! I have a question about the amount of water used as you list both metric and US conversions…(I also typically only use metric measurements when cooking as it’s more accurate). The amount of water you listed in metric weight is 288g but that equals just under 1 1/4 cups of water, not 1 3/4 cups (which is the US conversion you listed). I was confused by the how far off they were so I used the US measurement first in my recipe and that was just way too much water. I made it again using the metric measurement of 288g and that was the perfect amount of water. Just wanted to let you know in case you want to change the US water amount to match the metric measurement as anyone who only uses the US measurements will be adding too much water.
Dam that looks good, I'm fasting atm cause i need to take a blood test lol haven't eaten in 12hrs+ by the time i get the test it will be 22hrs lol hungry and could go for that later on! TY for the video and LLAP!

Ive never heard if a Pizza Pot Pie, but I'll be making one this coming weekend... That looks DELICIOUS!!! Thanks Brotha
The pizza pot pie 🥧 heck yeah. Pot pie is one of the best comfort foods, and pizza best everything food
Made this three times now. Only thing I would change is to make it more than three times. It's fantastic.
Thank you!
Why have soup in a bread bowl when you can have pizza in a bread bowl?!
Heart health
because tomato soup and grilled cheese/garlic bread
