Y'alls is the only one that actually looks authentic to me. Langers second. I've never been impressed by Kats just based on appearance and how they act towards patrons.
I know a lot of people here are giving you a hard time, but I have actually been to about 90% of the restaurants you went to around the country and I agree with your assessment on most of the food. Just because the place is "OG" doesn't mean that it's better than the other guys.
Guys, Angelo's is the real deal in America, its perhaps one of the top 20 best restaurants in the US... You may think why? Easy: its got a Philly Steak Sandwich 9.5 from Josh and a Pizza 9.1 from Dave Portnoy. Best of the best under one roof: best pizza, best sandwich... Gotta visit Angelos for sure!
Nothing in America is the real deal, no matter how many sandwich or italian restaurants I go to, theyre all 20th generation American Italians. The paninos dont even have melanzane or bomba, really????
@@BuildinWings Ive been to Italy a few times, one thing I've noticed is Montreal keeps it authentic. Even Toronto I noticed is very Americanized with its Italian food.
I really, really like that you didn’t idolize Katz deli and criticized it from an unbiased standpoint. From what I’ve seen, their customer service is so oddly rude and snood. I don’t understand how that can appeal to anyone. If you’re paying that much for a sandwich, you should be treated so much better. Having to show your drivers license to get a sandwich is madness. I like you man.
It's a shame he went to Katz at all when there are so many other great Jewish delis in NYC. That's like judging Philly's cheesesteaks by going to Geno's.
I mean I was there 3 weeks ago, didn't wait longer than 10 mins for my reuben, the guy serving me wasn't talking but not rude, checkout dude was nice as hell... no complaints. Also a reuben was like 27$ before tax and tip
Hey, I ran into you in Tampa at Columbia restaurant! Thanks for chatting with me while we waited for our food. Turns out I also ended up at La Segunda the next day, and totally agree with everything you said. Love to see Chicago italian beef making it here too, a personal favorite. Can't' wait to try all the others. Keep up the great work!
Angelo's have been getting a lot of raves for one reason: _they make their own bread for the sandwich_ . This is unlike many other cheesesteak places in Philadelphia, which uses the Amoroso Bakery roll. (In fact, Angelo's have been getting a lot of traffic not only for their outstanding cheesesteak sandwich, but also (arguably) the best pizza in Philadelphia, a pizza that can compare with the best in New York City.)
As someone who spends a lot of time in NYC and Philly I will say that the pizza doesn’t quite stand up to NYC (idc what portnoy says) but the cheesesteak is as advertised. Outstanding.
As a native New Yorker - Katz is overhyped and over priced. I'm so glad you felt the same. I never understood the hype. I gave it 3 chances and was underwhelmed - and the service is also trash.
My family is native New Yorker and we enjoy it. Also, the workers are always super nice and do things like sharing samples while building my sandwich. But theres another spot that’s a bit better and preferred.
I don't think katz is overrated. But what isnt good is their corned beef. I don't get why it's so much worse than their pastrami. I experienced the same as josh, flavorless and dry beef. Then the pastrami was fatty, salty, juicy and amazing. Pastrami was worth every penny.
I have been binge watching your Best of... series. This one is king. I want to jump on a plane right now to try anyone of those great sandwiches. Well done!
My boyfriend bought me both your books for Mother’s Day . He thought I was crying happy tears but he didn’t know how awesome and simple the dedication was . But on behalf of my family , we love you !
@CaptainSkuzzy Your weird, she was just showing appreciation to this creator she likes. I cant tell if your just being a troll or not, but if your not stop judging people and let them enjoy themselves man.
Obviously y’all haven’t read who he dedicated his cookbook too 😅 yes it was very impactful on Mother’s Day especially. When you’re raising your children to be good people but also expressive it’s very inspiring how far it can get them . Some people like Gordon Ramsay or The Pinoneer woman but not me , Josh is definitely my favorite . Over the last 6 years learning how to cook was super important to me . I’m raising a family and the right thing to do is make sure everybody is healthy including myself and my significant other . His cooking style is easy to follow and when you watch enough of his videos and then actually ready the recipes you know he wrote this book himself . Recipes from cinnamon toast to different kinds of nut butter . And all the jokes and bleeped out cuss words inbetween . And as for whatever somebody said about a parasocial relationship…. Josh was one of the first people to like my comment asshat 😂😅🤫 I’ve followed his recipes before and have never had a bad result . I don’t know Josh from Adam . But I definitely trust his technique and expertise .
I am so happy that you went to Angelo’s. I honestly didn’t think it would make it in the tops because everyone I ask here in Philly hasn’t mentioned it. My wife and I travel for work and try all kinds of food. We have been in Philly for 3 months now and when we first tried that sandwich we had the same reaction. It’s unreal.
I'm going to try Angelo's. But if you're traveling for work, head on over to Curly's Comfort Food in Levittown, PA. AMAZING cheesesteaks. And just get one between the two of you. One is WAY too much for one person!
Josh, I have started using your website almost weekly! The layout with the recipes and videos is awesome. Not to mention there isn’t a 40 paragraph disposition or 10 pip up adds for every recipe. Great job.
As someone who lives in south jersey and can easily drive or take the train to Philly I love that Angelo’s won, best cheesesteaks and pizzas in Philly for sure. For anyone that wants an alternative, Woodrow’s sandwich shop has my other favorite cheesesteak with the cherry pepper mayo they use. They also have a amazing cubano
@@HiddenUsername1Lillo’s is very, very good. Just be aware it’s super garlicky. They use a garlic aoli, a lot of my friends don’t like it for that reason, but I think it’s up there with one of the bests I’ve ever had.
I would also recommend Donkey’s place in Camden one of the fewest places that can hang with Angelo’s pizzeria and beat the rest. Anthony Bourdain was correct about the best cheesesteaks until Angelo’s pizzeria
As a New Yorker, Katz deli is a tourist trap. I will not pay $26 for a damn sandwich. If it spiked up to $35, it just solidifies why I wouldn't go back. We got some Italian heroes a fraction of the price for 2x the size and quality. Chopped cheese, Jewish deli meat sandwiches are not justified. You're the first guy in any media I've seen that gives an accurate depiction of Katz Deli.
My favorite sandwich is a Bahn Mi, but I don’t have a specific place that I think does it best, I just think that flavors are the most balanced with a little pickled veggies.
Funnily enough, Philly is also a hotspot for Vietnamese cuisine in America, and I'd argue one of the best places outside Vietnam to get a really good, mind blowing bahn mi. Probably the third most iconic sandwich in Philly after the cheesesteak and the roast pork
dude i live in bellevue and i was so genuinely shocked to see omaha and i first i was like aint no damn way hes about to eat a runza, but no thank god it was the rueben. Im happy that we had the best rueben of the ones he tried.
@bubalubagus7037 Ha! The runza came immediately to my mind as well. I kept thinking, "Yeah, runzas are pretty good, but one of the best sandwiches in the country? Sorry, but no." So when the Ruben was announced, I breathed a sigh of relief. Yeah, it's certainly one of America's finest sandwiches. Thanks Nebraska!
Katz comments about the reuben are totally fair. Price and wait aside, I've always thought that their corned beef was always drier and had subpar seasoning in general, especially compared to their pastrami. There is literally no reason to get their corned beef if you can just get the pastrami.
@@thatguy-thatdoesstuff4257 Haha that was crazy! What, they think someone is going to order a sandwich, and someone is find out about it using their city-wide spy network, come there with a fake ID to steal the sandwich?
I prefer a Reuben with corned beef, it sucks that Katz’s corned beef is too dry. And yeah they give you way too much meat, which is probably why they charge you almost $30 for the sandwich
i made the mistake of my one time in newyork ordering the corned beef at katz, totally underwhelmed. After seeing hte prices now a days would never make a return trip.
I’m from Chicago, and while I will say Al’s was much better back in the day (like prior to the pandemic), there are other spots in the city that were even better than the ones you mentioned. The best italian beef of all time was at a place called Fast Track on West Lake street. It closed during the pandemic unfortunately, but the building is still there and every true Chicagoan is heartbroken that it’s gone. There’s also D’amato’s Bakery, which is not as well known for the italian beef (I go there for their incredible italian cookies) but they have the best bread and the best quality ingredients in the city. Very happy to see you paying a visit to the same Al’s Beef in the parking lot of my old high school on Taylor, across the street from the iconic Mario’s Italian Ice. Brings back lots of great memories ❤
@@CinderQueue I was looking for someone else to even MENTION JOHNNYS im disappointed he didn't go there. What he said about Al's spot on, beef great peppers meh
Go wolfpack SICP. I grew up around there and attended SICP for 2 1/2 years. There used to be la Vittori on may where they had a great cheesy beef. There's Johnny's and so many others. Chi-town gets down. Ohhh yeah I almost forgot Buona beef on Roosevelt in Berwyn😉 and carm's on Polk.
Josh, you nailed it on Angelo's cheesesteak .It's one of those, like a fine wine, that's so good the flavor just sticks in your mouth for long after you're done. I literally could eat one of those every single day and not get tired of it.
I waited way too long to try Angelo's because it's not the easiest part of town to get to from where I usually stay in Philly (in Old City on the waterfront). It was worth every bit of the 1 1/2 hours of walking I needed to get there and back.
@@tjpeluso - It's cheesesteak perfection. Their pizza is also friggin awesome. The upside down jawn is slamming good. The regular round is really awesome as well. I do prefer the upside down which is a deep dish style with the crispy edges that are fantastic flavor. I couldn't possibly eat it all but I usually get a round and upside down so I have lots of leftovers.
This makes my heart so happy!!! I'm happy to respect other sandwiches and thank you for calling out the best places to go get my other favorite sandwiches but I'm so happy you loved our cheesesteak!!! I'll pop on over to Angelo's right now!! I'm embarrassed to say I've never been, I thought John's was the best. Thank you for putting in the legwork! I trust your opinion above most others.
Just had to pause as a longtime Tampa Bay resident to say thank you for going to La Segunda. At first, I was worried you'd just go to The Columbia and I was sad, their Cuban food is really good there but it's not the spot for a to-go sandwich like that. La Segunda is the GOAT and the reason it was least voted is because it's more of a local secret than a flashy Michelin-recognized place in Miami. There are actually a bunch of other great Cuban sandwiches in Tampa, the TRUE home of the Cuban, but Segunda is the measure for sure.
Been going to La Teresita's since I could walk...Their mojo roast pork is unbelievable. They are a bakery as well and make their own cuban bread that is amazing. Great price point too.
Made reubens one time and realized we didn’t have any sauerkraut. We used kimchi instead. Definitely not for everyone but my wife refuses to eat them without kimchi now. Worth trying once.
Sauerkraut and kimchi are essentially the same. Both are fermented cabage, it's just different bactaria and spices. Of course the flavor of both are very different. It's like they had the same idea on 2 different sides of the world.
What can i say, As an Aussie visiting the USA next year A Reuben at Katz's was on the list but seeing as though I am also visiting a mate working in Omaha Nebraska and its where its from my mind has been changed. Looking forward to visiting the Crescent Moon ..Thanks for this video
Omaha's got an incredible restaurant scene. The Blackstone neighborhood that Crescent Moon is in alone has some great choices. If you like sushi, check out Yoshitomo while you're here. Nebraska is landlocked but it is somehow among the heaviest hitters of sushi in the US. Block 16, Dirty Birds, Boiler Room, and Centi are all worth looking up as are so many more. Hope you enjoy your trip!
Another Aussie who has been travelling in the US the last month or so and visited a bunch of the places he mentioned, if you want a great reuben and you're in Philly the best we had was in Hershel's East Side Deli in the Reading Terminal Market (which is also worth checking out in and of itself).
On Chicago Italian Beef sanguiches... Al's and Portillo's started off with great products, but IMO, now they've become just another sandwich chain. Mr. Beef is very good! But there are SOoooo many others you should try... Tony's on the S. Side. Dukes, who's moved further away frome the city. Chickies in Hillside. Johnnies Beef in Elmwood Park. - To name just a few. They're all classic mom & pop shops with that old school class, moxie, style and charm.
I am very passionate about cooking and sandwiches are the food I cannot stop loving in my life. If you also like sandwiches the most like me, please like to share with me.
I've been making beach club mockups from Jimmy John's. I use bagels, with vegetable cream cheese, (or mayo, depending on you preference) sundried tomato turkey, provolone, cucumbers, tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, sprouts, which are a must imo, and avocado. Bacon if you'd like, but be careful with peppers and pickles if you choose to have them on the side. Unless you find the right pairing it overpowers the sandwich.
Guy's is the shit, I eat lunch there as often as I can. The chicken special is a sleeper hit for me, because getting back to work after a fried poboy ain't alway easy.
The best cubano I've ever had was in a little hole in the wall shop in Barcelona, about half a kilometer from any bus stops, but well worth the walk. Served by a surly Cuban expat who seemed to resent our obviously very American presence until I started praising the food in halting Spanish, which earned me a big smile. Absolutely amazing sandwich. If you're in Barcelona, look for "El Cubano Machin."
Pausing at 15:50, if Angelo’s isn’t one of these 3 I’m going to cry. Sincerely, South Philly native who’s eaten and reviewed nearly every cheesesteak in Philly, Delco and South Jersey. Edit: YAY this made my morning! 😂 Angelo’s really is the goat, and I’ve shamelessly spent probably 40+ hours combined waiting in lines for their steaks. Also, Cafe Carmela is a fairly close #2 btw.
I’m glad you mentioned delco and south jersey (born in delco, currently living in south jersey lol) some of the best cheesesteaks reside outside the city. LILO’s tomato pies in Hainesport, NJ is TOP TIER
Same, I waited patiently for the part about cheesesteaks to see if Angelo's was one of the places he went to. I'm not a Philly native, but it was recommended to me by a coworker who is. Hands down the best cheesesteak I have ever had.
Was saying the same thing. If there’s no Angleos or John’s, this video is invalid. He nailed all three Philly places. Angelo’s is the GOAT, John’s is 2nd, and Delassandro’s is overrated .
South side represent! Also funny enough, my first thought was it's definitely a cheesesteak. Second thought was it better be John's Roast Pork. My third thought was Angelo's makes cheesesteaks? Legit didn't know they were up there on the list for cheesesteaks. I had their pizza once and it was good but I honestly prefer Santucci's. But now I know better and I know what I must do next.
Katz’s is basically a museum that sells food. It’s an old school model for a small restaurant that is completely dysfunctional and overrun by tourists.
Let’s judge a cheesesteak with mayo, something majority of people would never put on a cheesesteak. Why not judge a Ruben with bbq sauce? While I don’t disagree with Angelo’s winning, Josh should have consulted as to what most people actually would order. Absolutely should have ordered with cooper sharp, w/ or w/o onions, that’s it.
Not every steak shop offers cooper sharp. He went with something all 3 spots had. Personally, I'd never put sharp prov on a steak. American or mild prov is the way.@@mikeymezer
The fact that Angelo’s is near my work hotel (flight attendant) makes me so happy. Next time I visit from the uk i am heading there right after the flight!
pro tip: ordering is pretty fast but then you have to wait a while for the food to be ready. But there's lot's of stuff to do in the neighborhood! John's water ice a few blocks away is another philly classic, plus little italy is right down the street with cool shops and farmers market stalls. Good way to burn some time while you wait for your sandwich!
Urban legend has it that the Italian Beef started out as wedding food during the Great Depression. When you soak the bread in the au jus, it satisfies like meat. Wet is thus the proper way to eat this sandwich. The best way to enjoy this sandwich is to order it with a side salad instead of fries. Eat the sandwich (wet with peppers of your choice) directly over the salad. Whatever falls into the salad will make it taste better. Portillos got sold to a corporation that reduced portion sizes. Don't go there for Italian beef. It's normal for sweet peppers to be mushy. They are cooked in the same au jus as the beef.
Portillos is till very good, at least in Chicago. It might have a slight drop in quality though I think portions is the bigger issue with it being corporate.
The fact that Portillo’s is on the list is an affront to Chicago. They used to be awesome but since private equity took over their quality went way down, it’s still good o it’s your only option but shouldn’t make a top ten. You should have put Johnnie’s in there instead of Portillo’s but the voters spoke, unfortunately most of them probably don’t live in Chicagoland anymore.
I SCREAMED at the inclusion of that one. Dude went to a chain and got a soggy sandwich. Like, Portillo's is fine if you have no other options, but he went to a CITY FULL OF OPTIONS KNOWN FOR THIS EXACT SANDWICH. He should've gone somewhere local instead that's not being actively kneecapped by private equity.
That's how the restaurant biz works sadly. Great restaurant over expands, investors who need more and more profits extract money as the product goes to shit, then they all cash out as the chain shuts down and pick a new virgin restaurant to ruin.
Portillo's was always grease over quality. It was literally first recommended to me by a guy going in for lap band surgery. And to this day that's the only guy I've known who went there on the reg.
Glad you enjoyed Angelo’s so much. There’s a reason its so beloved. Next time you’re in town, I recommend getting it with cooper sharp (local specialty) and adding peppers as well. And if you’re really feeling adventurous get their housemade Cooper Sharp Long Hot Cheese Whiz (my personal favorite)
Appreciate Josh giving credit to Omaha and going to Crescent Moon, literally across the street from the Blackstone hotel (now called the Cottonwood) where it was invented, to enjoy that incredible sandwich. And if you ever want to come back, the whole Blackstone neighborhood does The Great Reuben Debate every year and some of their takes and twists on the sandwich are truly amazing. Get Real Sandwiches did a Ko-Reuben this year and kimchi and gochujang thousand island changed my perception of perfection.
Remember those days when Josh would say profuse thank you’s for reaching 2, 3, 4 million subs… bro. 9.18m and counting. Good for you, Josh. The hard work is paying off ♥️
7:21 La Segunda does a mustard/mayo mix for their sauce, makes it stand out over other Cubanos in a good way. Tampa is home away from home for me and La Segunda's definitely my Cubano of choice in town, so really happy to see you went there.
Would love to see a part 2. I'm from Maryland and we've got the Crabcake Sandwich, Fried Soft-shell crab sandwich, pit beef, etc. Lots of great options
As a foreigner, I'll happily vouch for the American sandwich. Ya'll have perfected the art of putting meat between two slices of bread. There is so much variety, innovation and attention to quality.
@@Jon-mo9ks Katz's pastrami is like 3 sandwiches. You go with a friend and you get one sandwich and 2 slices of bread. There's enough meat on there for 2+ sandwiches.

1) The amount of dedication and work that goes into these videos are insane. 2) The video was awesome! 3) Off topic youre looking very Svelte. Keep up the great work!!
Can I make a request? Best Taylor Ham sandwich! It is god tier breakfast food, served with well done fried egg and melted American cheese, optional salt pepper ketchup, served on a kaiser roll (standard central-south jersey) or a bagel (north jersey). It's a thick, heavily spiced, freshly deli sliced pork product....like a top shelf reserve spam, lol. The kicker is you really can only get it in new jersey, a small part of Pennsylvania, Connecticut and a small area of NYC/Bronx. In case you didn't know, NJ is home to some of the best bread (bagels, pizza dough, hoagie rolls) in the country. The exclusivity of the Taylor ham makes it that much more special.
I am having the exact opposite experience. His older videos were so much better. He’s going down a route that I have seen far too many creators fall into. Rather than just continuing to make great, solid videos, they start to change so as to chase clout.
too bad you didn't go to Johnnies Beef in Elmwood Park. That is a must go if you're in the area. By area I mean within an hour away. Make a point to go there Josh.
@@erik.pajula Why wouldn't a Chicagoan choose Portillos? That's an insane statement. I recommend someone visiting Chicago to get a Chicago Style hotdog and beef there, it's a great example of both in one location.
There used to be a spot in Chicago called Susie’s, they used Italian beef meat to make the Philly, and used sour cream/mayo sauce, it was so damn good. They closed down a few years ago, a north side Chicago landmark gone forever. The order was a Philly, cheese fries in a tortilla bowl, and a baboon milk shake with extra Oreos. Iykyk
Local tip, call your order in ahead of time to save yourself about half of the already crazy long wait. You’ll still have to wait in line to pick up but it’s worth
Here's the thing about Katz's, from a New Yorker. Unfortunately, it's become just a tourist spot. That's why the line is so long and probably why the people who work there were skeptical jerks. Even like fifteen years ago you could walk in, wait in a normal line, and get your giant sandwich, sit, and enjoy. But I rarely go even though I love the sandwiches because, as you say, it's NYC and I can get a Reuben anywhere and it's no longer worth the experience. Blame, in part, When Harry Met Sally.
Maybe I'm just not familiar enough with NYC prices, but $35 for a sandwich is absolutely insane. Looking online for a pickup order it's also $10 for a side of fries and $3.75 for a CAN of Pepsi. I can get a bone-in ribeye, with a side and drink here in Buffalo for less than just the price of the sandwich.
Joshua, if you’re ever in Buffalo NY, you need to try our Beef on Weck. Rare roast beef, horseradish, on a kimmelweck. As a salt apprecianado , you will enjoy the crunchy top on a freshly baked weck roll.
The thing is, the recipe and origin of the Cubano is heavily debated where are you have Miami style or Tampa style. Same thing with the Poboys, Reubens, all these sandwiches. You can’t just go to one city and say they have the best of one particular sandwich without all those variations. Best po’boy & Cubano I ever had were both in NC. Best “Chicago style” pizza I had was in NYC.
Josh/his team seem pretty good at exploring suggestions; testing recommendations :) Be specific! Name the places where you had the "best" whatever. Even if Josh doesn't visit - his followers may :)
Day 1 of requesting Josh and the crew to visit the Ruta del Lechón in Guavate, Cayey, Puerto Rico! There are lots of restaurants that make amazing slow-roasted pork and other Puerto Rican dishes. 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷
The Chicken Vesuvio Sandwich at Ricobene's in Chicago is my favorite sandwich in the world. The 50/50 Oyster / Shrimp poboy at Parkway in New Orleans is my second favorite. Great video cheers
I heavily regret that I didn’t read this comment before I left NoLa because I did not even know a 50/50 option with Oysters (my absolute favorite food next to Otoro) was an option for a PoBoy and I didn’t even have one while I was there. I did have the best ever chargrilled oysters of my life at Arnaud’s though and I’ve been yearning for them again ever since. If you’re a fan of oysters I highly recommend them.
@@ashhellwig I believe they only have oysters on wednesdays at parkway, It is such a great sandwich. I also love chargrilled oysters. Casamento's and Superior Oysters are my favorite. Never had Arnauds, will have to try them.

I lived 5 min from Angelo’s. Pro tip for y’all wanting to visit - Angelo’s unplugs their phone 30 min into opening so put in your order in person and then walk a block to chapterhouse cafe to grab a drink while you wait (and you will definitely wait at the minimum 1 hour). Order a dirty chai or a London fog latte. Or if you aren’t a caffeine person, go 2 blocks the opposite direction and get yourself a cookie from the Italian bakery isgros. Man I miss living in that area the food scene is amazing. I also lived in nyc and yeah, Katz deli makes me irate from the jump I will never understand the hype like even for movie lovers it’s not worth the stress. When I had friends that visited and wanted to go there I’d tell them I’ll meet up with them after lol
A traditional "Cubano" which originates in Tampa, has a cured meat on it, usually Salami. The Miami version omits the cured meat. It's unfortunate that your sandwich from Columbia wasn't hot. I've eaten there a number of times, & it's always been hot & amazing. The cured meat does make a huge difference
I second this. A Columbia Cuban sandwich eaten hot and fresh is truly a thing of culinary beauty, and is deserving of the accolades and acclaim the restaurant garners as a true Florida institution since 1905.
@@DarkMattr To be fair, the Columbia is a Spanish restaurant. I've never had their cuban but I'm sure its good. There are so many traditional cuban spots in Tampa that aren't as hyped.

The cheesesteak is my all time favorite sandwich. We dont have really any great ones up here in ohio so i just make my own on the blackstone and not to brag or nothin, theyre pretty good. I use mozz and onions only. Green peppers if people request them
There's so many good sandwiches I'm gonna start off with the BLT after that the italian beef, Coming in a close third the French dip, Roast beef with pepper Jack, Monte Cristo, Hot Pastrami on rye.😂
I've never understood breaded shrimp on a sandwich. I tried a po boy when I was in NOLA, but I wasn't at all impressed. I'm gobsmacked that the NOLA Muffaletta wasn't on the list! Now THAT'S a sandwich!! The best one I've ever had!
Turano bakeries make moat of the Italian beef bread. Dense soft French bread intended to soak up and hold up to the natural juices of the thinly sliced beef. Sauteed green pepper cooked until soft, sweet and delicious. Giardinara optional.
Angelo’s pizzeria is 100% #1 spot for a great Philly cheesesteak and pizza. John’s Roasted Pork is #2 without a doubt. Dalessandro is overrated by a mile they’re more of the bottom top 10 choice. I don’t understand how that can appeal to anyone. If you’re paying that much for a sandwich, you should be treated so much better. Having to show your drivers license to get a sandwich is madness.
I like you man.
$35...I bought an entire brisket for that on closeout a month back. That's a lot of sandwiches....
You pay $5 to wait in line and $10 for the name Katz
Unbiased?
Dude was pissed about the customer interaction and took it out on the rating 😂

Get outta here! That's a Sarcone's roll. They are literally NEXT DOOR to Sarcone's, the best hoagie/steak roll in the World!
I'm so tired of the angelos glazing
@@tomodda1 also there are a lot of places in philly that use sarcone's stuff.
Most of the best places in Philly use better rolls than Amoroso. Philly has a lot of good bakeries.
As someone who spends a lot of time in NYC and Philly I will say that the pizza doesn’t quite stand up to NYC (idc what portnoy says) but the cheesesteak is as advertised. Outstanding.
And here I thought Nebraska would be forgotten since not many people talk about it. Thank you for visiting Nebraska. Glad you like your Reuben. 😊

As a native New Yorker - Katz is overhyped and over priced. I'm so glad you felt the same. I never understood the hype. I gave it 3 chances and was underwhelmed - and the service is also trash.

@@DannoHung S&P. Classic or their Flat Iron Delight - swaps sauerkraut for coleslaw. It's amazing. Give them a try.
My family is native New Yorker and we enjoy it. Also, the workers are always super nice and do things like sharing samples while building my sandwich. But theres another spot that’s a bit better and preferred.
@@spike_021 What spot?

@CaptainSkuzzy you might wanna read about what parasocial relationship is lil bro
Is your boyfriend your son?
Their pizza is also top tier
I was really worried that the picks were going to be Pat's and Geno's.
Josh, I have started using your website almost weekly! The layout with the recipes and videos is awesome. Not to mention there isn’t a 40 paragraph disposition or 10 pip up adds for every recipe. Great job.
Disposition? Don't think you know what word you're trying to use, yung soft head
I wanna get over to lillo's so badly.
Donkeys Too in Medford is phenomenal. With the spicy ketchup and seasoned fries too
As a New Yorker, Katz deli is a tourist trap.
With the rent as is erry bodega be charging $20 for a grilled cheese
He said $35 and my chest started to hurt. I could never.
35 is actually insanity
It’s a Jewish deli what do you expect

Absolutely
GIve me a Bahn MI over one of those soggy 'Italian' beefs any day
Funnily enough, Philly is also a hotspot for Vietnamese cuisine in America, and I'd argue one of the best places outside Vietnam to get a really good, mind blowing bahn mi. Probably the third most iconic sandwich in Philly after the cheesesteak and the roast pork
You just made me write that down. I've never heard of that sandwich before but it looks really good.
I do love bahn mi's, but I get it--American sandwiches not Vietnamese.
What a great episode! All the sandwiches look so good, and Respect for giving love to the mom and pop shops! ❤
As a Nebraska boy, I’m so glad that you went here for Rueben’s. We do not get enough credit.

I had no idea rubens were invented in Nebraska.
dude i live in bellevue and i was so genuinely shocked to see omaha and i first i was like aint no damn way hes about to eat a runza, but no thank god it was the rueben. Im happy that we had the best rueben of the ones he tried.
@bubalubagus7037 Ha! The runza came immediately to my mind as well. I kept thinking, "Yeah, runzas are pretty good, but one of the best sandwiches in the country? Sorry, but no."
So when the Ruben was announced, I breathed a sigh of relief. Yeah, it's certainly one of America's finest sandwiches. Thanks Nebraska!
Where is Nebraska?
Katz comments about the reuben are totally fair. Price and wait aside, I've always thought that their corned beef was always drier and had subpar seasoning in general, especially compared to their pastrami. There is literally no reason to get their corned beef if you can just get the pastrami.
And get carded for it
@@thatguy-thatdoesstuff4257 Haha that was crazy! What, they think someone is going to order a sandwich, and someone is find out about it using their city-wide spy network, come there with a fake ID to steal the sandwich?
Katz pastrami is the best, never had to wait more than 30 min. He must have gone on a bad day.
Definitely needs to hit Mario's Italian Ice. But the best beef is Johnny's.
I miss fast track so much
@@CinderQueue I was looking for someone else to even MENTION JOHNNYS im disappointed he didn't go there.
I'm a little upset that he ordered the beef with peppers. The way places prep it can vary widely. Kind of like how Johnnies doesn't have cheese.
Their italian hoagies are awesome too. Pizza is no slouch either! All about the bread, and they got it.
Ya like Joyces on MLK. I've been getting my Cuban there since I was a small kid.
I've found the food at The Columbia is a bit overhyped. La Seguna is a treasure.
West Tampa Sandwich shop is also goated, $7 for a huge Cuban and they are all delicious
la bamba - westshore district has one of the best cubans I've had.
I love kimchi so I MUST try this!
this is a scholar and gentleman move
That would work for me. They're basically both fermented cabbage, but sauerkraut is one-dimensional.
That is definitely an acceptable substitution. Right up there with using pastrami instead of corned beef.
Thank you for the Katz's hate, that's exactly how I felt when I went to New York City and waited all that time.

You'll like it. It also has a huge selection of beer.
Johnnie’s is my all time fav!! ✨
Johnnie’s and Augustinos are top notch!
johnnies in elmwood park for sure and pops in evergreen park, even Romas on the north side, theyre all way better then als, mr beef, portillos
Johnnie's is incredible. Food and experience. I have never had any use for the sweet peppers though. Hot-dipped is the way.
Johnnies is top tier
I am very passionate about cooking and sandwiches are the food I cannot stop loving in my life. If you also like sandwiches the most like me, please like to share with me.
Like begging over enjoying sandwiches is wild
Make sure you buys melanzane and bomba. Do it right, not like these American 20th generation Italian ppl.
It wasn’t like begging, and I could tell, you are just used to like beggers
Im salty he shouted out Guys lol. That is my spot. But they deserve all the love for sure!!
It is now on my list
I used to live a few blocks from Guy's. Them and Adams Street Grocery were my favorite poboys
Pausing at 15:50, if Angelo’s isn’t one of these 3 I’m going to cry. Sincerely, South Philly native who’s eaten and reviewed nearly every cheesesteak in Philly, Delco and South Jersey.
Edit: YAY this made my morning! 😂
Angelo’s really is the goat, and I’ve shamelessly spent probably 40+ hours combined waiting in lines for their steaks.
Jersey now living in VA, I envy yall so much....I missed the days I can drive over to Philly abd grab 2 or 3 cheesesteaks from Angelo's
Was saying the same thing. If there’s no Angleos or John’s, this video is invalid. He nailed all three Philly places. Angelo’s is the GOAT, John’s is 2nd, and Delassandro’s is overrated
.
The winner is absolutely no surprise to me, and I’m so here for it. Fuckin deserved
Best part is Angelo’s also has some of the best pizza in the country as well
i'm glad your comment doesn't spoil the video, well done
1000% as a Philly native I was so worried it wasn’t going to come up. Recommend cooper sharp cheese to anyone reading. That would have made it a 9.7
Let’s judge a cheesesteak with mayo, something majority of people would never put on a cheesesteak.
Highly recommend you get the cooper sharp cheese
The way I screamed when you said Angelo’s! I knew it’d be that. Philly forever; Go Birds 💚
Birds are just the best. :)
Kudos to you & your team for doing research on the good spots!!!
Thank you AI
1000% agree with this. I wouldn't put portillos anywhere near the top of the list. Even Johnnies is a lot better in my opinion
I was really hoping Johnnie’s was going to be in the list and wasn’t happy to see Portillos, oh well, Mr. Beef is an awesome spot
11:00 that wasn’t bias at all 🙃🙃😂😂
Appreciate Josh giving credit to Omaha and going to Crescent Moon, literally across the street from the Blackstone hotel (now called the Cottonwood) where it was invented, to enjoy that incredible sandwich.

@@chrissnyder4439 Again, catering to tourists. It's no longer a spot that locals can just go to for a good sandwich.
@@DavidRiganowhere do you go and eat a delicious pastrami on rye sandwich?
Where’s day 2
Florida king sandwich “Publix chicken tender sub”
Facts!!!! Pub sub for the win!!!!
Damn straight. Man I miss Publix
Thank you for great reviews You break it down to the grains of salt. I love the reviews and look for more
showing ID to pick up a sandwich is wild 💀💀
yea.. it's a f***in sandwich.. who cares if someone stole someone else's sandwich order? you're in a sandwich factory, make another one ffs smh
As someone who is from PA I'm glad u gave Angelo's cheesesteak such high praise 😊❤
We Pennsylvanians don't have much, but we do have cheesesteaks.
@Rankallthethings I don't live in Phillie but God damn do I love my cheesesteaks
Ricobenes is so bad man come on
@JessieJellybeans go upstairs your meatloaf is ready
Ricobenes is good I like the chicken Vesuvio, I’m kind of disappointed on his rating for Al’s but I’d say my favorite sandwich is Al’s beef and the vodka chicken parm at Damatos.
YES! angelo's is phenomenal i go everytime im in philly
this is such a great video. so much effort behind each videos.
I think I found a bucket list item. All the places in this video lol
Me too! lol
Josh’s “Not So Love” for Katz Deli!! 🤣
I woulda got out of NY in a hurry after dropping that heat 😂
@@kwerby3285, LOL!! Right? 🤣🤣
The sandwich costs a dollar for every minute you wait for it apparently
@@Shiftheads, IKR? It’s ridiculous!! 🤣
Katz's got savaged for bad service. Food servers note - mail it in at your own establishment's peril.
TAAAASMMMPPPAAA BAAAAYY. WOOOOOOOOOO
AWWW SNAP YALL YBOR OF THE HOOK SON
Ybor fo live son
@@DarkMattr To be fair, the Columbia is a Spanish restaurant. I've never had their cuban but I'm sure its good. There are so many traditional cuban spots in Tampa that aren't as hyped.
More travel/regional content from Josh
Togos' double pastrami, double provolone, chopped onions, not sliced, chopped lettuce, sliced whole tomatoes, mayo top and mustard below, steamed hot, but not toasted bun....yum yum yum!
Best sandwich I ever had was a Big Mac style sandwich made with onion poppy seed ciabatta rolls, the top layer was an Italian cold cuts situation and the bottom layer was a southern fried chicken sandwich. Everyone should have it
Where did you have this Masterpiece?
Josh you missed the actual greatest sandwich in America. Un Bien in Seattle has the caribbean pork sandwich!! Make a part two and go there! Trust me you won’t be disappointed.
While it's probably amazing (I'll have to try it next time) I wouldn't really call a caribbean pork sandwich "The Regional Sandwich of Seattle" which seems to be pretty important to qualify for this
@@Ubernaught012 Ah yeah good point!
Josh: "You guys know how I feel about salt"
*cut to 100s of videos of Josh dumping tablespoons of salt in his dishes*
Yes, that's what he meant about that line... he likes salt
The cheesesteak is my all time favorite sandwich. We dont have really any great ones up here in ohio so i just make my own on the blackstone and not to brag or nothin, theyre pretty good. I use mozz and onions only. Green peppers if people request them
$35 for a sandwich is ridiculous.
Getting carded for a sandwich is outright embarrassing.
It's not if people will buy it.
They're also not $35, I dunno wtf he bought. But a Reuben ain't $35 there.
@JonasBarnesComedy how much
You goofed by not going to Johnnys for the Italian beef. Best in chicagoland
Next time you come to Philly you should try a roast pork sandwich with sharp provolone and broccoli rabe.
Exactly… 👍
There's so many good sandwiches I'm gonna start off with the BLT after that the italian beef, Coming in a close third the French dip, Roast beef with pepper Jack, Monte Cristo,
Hot Pastrami on rye.😂
Schwartz Deli in Montreal has an amazing Reuben!
this is the best one . Katz is over rated and over priced . you go for the history
"in America"
@@CC80 technically, Canada is North America, so it tracks
@@syaanino. Like not at all
@syaani do you say "Chicago, North America"? No. Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Not, Montreal North America.
I've never understood breaded shrimp on a sandwich. I tried a po boy when I was in NOLA, but I wasn't at all impressed. I'm gobsmacked that the NOLA Muffaletta wasn't on the list! Now THAT'S a sandwich!! The best one I've ever had!
should've gone with the Cooper Sharp for the cheesesteaks. provolone is for tourists
Agreed cooper sharp is solid, I would say whiz or American are more the tourist cheese. Provolone is fine, especially when it's good quality
All about Max's steaks
And it would have spiked the salt he loves
Prov is legit if it's sharp... but yeah cooper is still GOATed. Also gotta get some long hots on that sucker.
Turano bakeries make moat of the Italian beef bread. Dense soft French bread intended to soak up and hold up to the natural juices of the thinly sliced beef. Sauteed green pepper cooked until soft, sweet and delicious. Giardinara optional.
Not going to Johhnies Beef in Chicago is a warcrime.
That bread at Angelos! Damn it looked so good!
And that first Cubano had me drooling too.
Angelo’s pizzeria is 100% #1 spot for a great Philly cheesesteak and pizza. John’s Roasted Pork is #2 without a doubt. Dalessandro is overrated by a mile they’re more of the bottom top 10 choice. Their steak lack flavor and they bread is horrible you can find better at a Papi corner store. Donkey’s place in Camden, NJ is the one spot that can rival with Angelo’s pizzeria .
