- In this video, I explain why it is better to make your own sterling silver ear wires, rather than purchasing pre-made ones. I also show my quick and easy method for creating consistent, functional and attractive French Wires for earrings.

Just getting ready to make some changes to a friend’s earrings Chad and was going to buy some gold ear wires. Changed my mind and am gonna have a go making them. Thanks for this video!
This video has some more ideas for earwigs as well Bill, and is quite a bit more recent:): th-cam.com/video/TtWRR1bhj3Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hTuH9Z33AU1dq4Me
Hi Chad, I like the different way you arrive at beautiful ear wires in this video. I have a suggestion; it is a great tutorial, but it is hard to see what you're doing in several parts. You are out of frame. I think all of us would appreciate a second detailed look. If you feel like it. I get this, but I've made hundreds of these. Your technique is superior in that it is very refined looking; clean wraps and the "eye" of your loop is uniform (rare). 😎👏👏👏👍
Thanks Flying Chef! I was going to make a newer one with several variations and a better view pretty soon. Good suggestion. At some point I will redo some of the early videos with better shot and edited ones. As always, thanks for the good advice!
Thank you.
You're welcome Catherine! This one features some other options as well: th-cam.com/video/TtWRR1bhj3Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_y_bAmU0TWqtckM4
Very nice dear.
Thanks Ma Wi!
thank you / best
You’re welcome Mehmet! Glad you liked it!
I totally agree about that cup tool it’s definitely worthless
I bet a rotary tool cup burr would work. Have to try that sometime!
@Chad’s Silversmithing yes they work great on my foredom!,,
I am so sorry for you because you were off camera?
Hehe. This is one of my early videos while I was learning basic video editing. Here is one that is a little better with more types of earring findings including that same type:). th-cam.com/video/TtWRR1bhj3Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=EPusRDi0SynjB5yB
Even if you buy dead soft you can work Harding them by putting them in a tumbler with steel shots and a drop of dish soap and tumble for at least 12 hours. But yes, using the half hard is the best but if you only have dead soft use the tumbler technique
I’ll try that sometime:)
