  • In this video I will show you how to make your own balled ear wires with a torch. Similar to making balled head pins, this process uses a larger gauge wire and I will show you how to shape them into ear wires to give your earrings that special artisan look!
    Materials used:
    20 Gauge Rnd Sterling Silver Wire (I get mine from Monsterslayer.com)
    Optional: Homemade Jeweler's Pickle for oxidation. Directions Below.
    Tools used:
    Butane Micro Torch-amzn.to/3hvFGDd
    Cross Locking Tweezers-amzn.to/3huiR2S
    Rock Tumbler-amzn.to/2YtqVcH
    Stainless Steel Shot-amzn.to/3hs3Gag
    Bail Making Pliers-amzn.to/2D1UASO

    Round Nose Pliers- Swanstrom
    Flat Nose Pliers- Swanstrom
    Natural Jeweler's Pickle Recipe:
    Best to use a crock pot and add...
    1 Cup of Vinegar
    1 Tbsp Table Salt
    Heat it up!

    Good one, thank you. I have what I need to torch yet I am still hesitant to try, not sure why. Some day :)

    Hi lovely video, thank you, very clear and instructive! What's a tumbler though?

    • @ZurickDesigns

      I use a rock tumbler with stainless steel shot and it with polish, harden and burnish jewelry.

    Thank you for this demo. Just wondering what options there are if you don’t have a tumbler please?

    • @ZurickDesigns
      @ZurickDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could use half hard wire and/or hammer them bit with a rawhide mallet to harden them up

    Great tut! Can you put silver in the same pickle pot you use for your copper?

    • @ZurickDesigns
      @ZurickDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! I don’t think so. I know you don’t want to introduce iron but just copper and silver should be ok 👍🏻

      I use stainless steel shot, water and a tiny bit of soap.
      I use dead soft round sterling silver.

    • @ZurickDesigns
      @ZurickDesigns  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can hang charms, bead dangles or anything you want from them for earrings

    Thanks for the great video! I'm wondering if the tumbler makes the balls smoother? Sometimes the balls look pitted. I don't have a tumbler but have used one when I did some silversmithing classes. Thanks!

    • @ZurickDesigns
      @ZurickDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t notice them getting smaller. They’re only in the tumbler for an hour or two anyway. I kinda like the pitted look myself. Gives it that “artisan look” I think.

      Yes, the tumbler makes them smoother! It only takes my tumbler about 20 minutes! I love it! I tumble all my ear wires, makes them beautiful, and you don't have to file the part that goes into the ear! Also takes out any small nicks that you might have made. Also makes the wire harder!

      @@ZurickDesigns pure copper is a low risk allergen, far less people will have a problem with copper than say, stirling silver that contains nickel. I never understood why nickel is commonly used in jewelry, so many people are allergic to it. Now those silver colored copper wires can be a problem because you don't know exactly what is in the silver alloy coating. Should just be tin, but china manufacturers are sneaky 🤷
