Man, I am not racist or anything, and I am sure that there are plenty of good honest Nigerians out there, but these scammers have already done so much damage to the reputation of Nigera. Here in my country immigration officials are stricter when awarding VISAs to Nigerians. Not too many landlors are also welcoming to them. In fact, only a few want to do business with Nigerians because so many of them were caught with their scamming operations here.

While I agree that scammers in Nigeria should be held accountable, I find it hard to trust the accuracy of this claim. Where did you get this statistic? I was born and raised in Nigeria until recently, and I can assure you that finding employment is extremely difficult. This is why Nigeria ranks as the 7th highest country of origin for international students-young Nigerians are forced to seek better opportunities abroad.
Moreover, the notion that higher education is free in Nigeria for fields like medicine and engineering is simply incorrect. A quick search of tuition fees at both private and public universities in Nigeria will give you a clear sense of the cost compared to the average wages people earn.
Most Nigerians, myself included, strongly condemn fraud. I would be interested in seeing the source for these 200,000+ jobs you mentioned. I’m sure many people could benefit from that information, but as a Nigerian judging from my lived experiences, I highly doubt those jobs exist, or that they pay as well as you claim. That said, kudos to you for maintaining your moral ground despite your situation-that’s truly honorable.

How can you possibly claim all that and talk about laziness from the height of your privilege?! Where do you gets your facts from? Have you been to developing countries? Have you seen true poverty with your own eyes? Have you met people from African countries who struggle to make a decent living or do you get your "facts" from facebook? Hold Africa accountable? Hold America and colonising countries accountable, for all they did and all they took, which made countries rich in resources have to fend for themselves and fight to survive while others are ahead of the game! How dare you call Nigeria or any other African country lazy when you don't kow what it's like? There are major differences in poverty there and poverty where you are from, if you don't realize that then you know absolutely nothing! You are judging things from your little bubble, with no awareness of the complexity of this issue. Shameful and embarrassing. I suggest you study the complexities of this issue, instead of resorting to repeating meritocracy rhetoric. Good day.

The adult men in Nigeria need to hold their Black leaders accountable and negotiate for jobs for their countrymen. It is is inexcusable for these males to scam other people because their leaders are inept.
The Nigerian President should step down if he is unable to manage the finances for his country.
There are plenty of workers needed in Nigeria to build all the broken infrastructures.

Most of these women berried their husbands and never remarried, or just busy living their life and raising children, they retire and become lonely. Same story is with men of retirement age in the West-USA specifically that are traveling to Asian countries (Thailand and Philippines) to get the young women for themselves, starting new families and often live in those countries. That kind of things done on mass scale and men's shorter life expectancy causing shortage of older men to marry. Real issue and not just in the west, but Eastern Europe as well.

I pity these people to an extent, but I'm also bewildered at the fact that the American actually gave the money away.
I feel like being terribly impoverished can lead some to take drastic measures to support themselves, which I can definitely understand to a degree, but I also feel that some of those people still are able to dig a way out of poverty with the resources that they do have access to - it just may be much more difficult for them than for the average person living in a developed country.
For the former group of people who can _really_ only make money through illegal means shouldn't be punished if the government cannot help them, but for the latter that despite being impoverished still has resources, they probably should be punished.
Sometimes, in very occasional circumstances, you cannot get what you need by being nice and following all the rules.

You could donate to a charity to help these people, but the thing is, most charities take a sizable percentage, but that might be the toll to make sure donations make it to actual people in need. Most capitalist, free countries tend to have people who are more charitable with their money. Ask yourself, if you're living in a Western country, would you gladly throw someone broke in Nigeria $5 if you knew it would change their life, 100% of it goes to them, and they are someone who ledgit needs it, not a part of some gang that uses ppl to elicit donations and then the gang take 90% of the proceeds. Most people, even those not making much in the U.S. would gladly throw them $5, $10, $20 if it was guaranteed going to someone who ledgit needs it.

@@bookmark2846 Most of these women berried their husbands and never remarried, or just busy living their life and raising children, they retire and become lonely. Same story is with men of retirement age in the West-USA specifically that are traveling to Asian countries (Thailand and Philippines) to get the young women for themselves, starting new families and often live in those countries, they get scammed a lot also. That kind of things done on mass scale and men's shorter life expectancy causing shortage of older men to marry. Real issue and not just in the west, but Eastern Europe as well. It happens all over the world with bad people and con-artists who will do anything to get money.

It’s a sad reality and it does happen. You know a lot of people turn to cat fishing because they need money.
It’s not because they don’t care or you know. Do you know what if you’re stuck between thinking?
OK this person needs to live in, pay her bills and feed her family but then I need to feed my family.
And sadly you can’t just do both sometimes want to have to suffer so then the other person can survive
It’s survival. It’s like the story of survival right.

but those descriptions mean vastly different things in this country.
Middle class in some places is having two TVs and air conditioners....in other places it's having a gated compound dwelling.
I am telling you, there are way more have nots than haves and the class divides are canyons...
Most of these "victims" would never donate regularly to any international cause but they will most certainly pay to play with young men who need more than they want....it's shameful and it's embarrassing that our culture coddles these adults who have DECIDED to give their money and information away in the most blatant ways
