- Pegasus spyware is capable of bypassing your phone's security and gaining complete access to your device - including emails, messages, GPS location, photos, video, and your phone's microphone.
Subscribe to The Guardian on TH-cam ► bit.ly/subscribegdn
A Guardian investigation can now reveal widespread abuse of the Pegasus technology by government clients around the world who purchased the spyware from its Israeli manufacturer - the NSO Group. People who were selected as possible targets include journalists, lawyers and human rights defenders.

I build, repair and maintain PCs as an occupation and every time someone asks me about privacy, my copy-paste answer is: "if you care about privacy, first of all always read the manual of your apparatus and the terms of service for anything you use on it". It's a conversation killer.
Why not make it even more concise and respond with "What privacy?!" There is a backdoor to everything, esp that which us mere peons have access to. The only way to guarantee privacy is to communicate in the ol' fashion analogue way.
@@aminostruth3494 There are other ways toο, but I pointed to the fact that most people don't want to delve even into rudimentary information.
If you want anything kept private on a computer, simply never put it online or connect to any online networks, and don't connect any drives with the data to any online devices. As soon as you are online, assume privacy is gone because no matter how good your expertise, or ethical and secure your OS and software is, there is always the risk that it can be bypassed. Even security services ultimately know who you are, when you use a VPN they have your details and can you really trust them to use them responsibly and lawfully? Never underestimate the weakness of people, especially when it comes to greed and threats to their livelihoods.
So instead of being helpful you give them a jackass answer.
@@MrGold-lo6vc No friend, it's a joke to summarize the general underestimation of privacy risks. I'm a professional, I conform to the will and needs of my clients. If they want to be secure or at least care about it, of course, I advice them, it's my job the last 25 years. You know, most of my clients when the bell rings for the shortest of possible tech lessons, they just react REALLY NEGATIVLY, they don't want to go there. They don't want to learn about (fuck privacy, which is a vague term for most of the people) keyboard shortcuts and workflow solutions that will reduce timelines and enhance productivity. Imagine if this was a Chinese company. Sanctions would fly everywhere but because it's Israeli, don't even expect any talks of sanctions.
exactly!
ANTI SEMETISM WAAAAA
The difference is that it's a private company working for its personal economic gain, it's not a technology sanctioned or commanded by the Israeli government. There are many companies in democratic countries working to undermine democracy by exporting horrendous things such as poison gas components (German companies in Iraq and Syria), nuclear components, spyware and of course weapons into dictatorial countries. That however is a very different thing than a dictatorial government perpetrating those hacks themselves like Russia does.
Russia is so infamous that it is even blacklisted by the Pegasus creators. Their blacklist includes 20 countries, so only the worst of the worst offenders imaginable.
The Israeli government isn't really at fault here unless you want the Israeli government to completely ban this company from doing what it does. Few governments ever ban unethical practices of private companies, Israel just isn't an exception.
Considering how many lobbyists are lobbying Israeli governments to further the interests of cyber-startups, this is unlikely as internet technology startups are an incredibly important economic factor in Israel, saying many of its jobs.
And this is why we need to go back to the era when we did not have smart phones. Ditch the smart phones!

Pegasus tool is using services that automatically download stuff. For instance finding a vulnerability in the iphone mail app, then infecting the phone by sending something through email, it gets automatically downloaded as mail service is running in background usually. So its using apps that are running in the background automatically, Ways to protect against pegasus:
- Dont download unnecessary apps
- Keep your device software updated
- Keep your apps updated
- Switch off app background refresh
- Switch off internet (Mobile data) on apps and only turn it on when you want to use those apps then switch it back off again
- For Iphone, Switch off Imessage unless you are using it.
- If you dont need iCloud then switch your connection with iCloud off as device can get infected through iCloud running service.
This doesn’t protect you 100% but it does make it harder to infect your device.
It bypasses all of that
