Really nice to see both the good and the bad side of these, wow is that quite the difference! Almost looks like the bad one crashed in that area, considering the rest of the sectors past that point were not marked as bad, that is rather unfortunate to see. I've opened drives before and went wait what the drive was crashed? Sometimes the head crashes are so light the drive will still remain operational but will be damaged, as that one shows. Of course the bad one could've degraded badly in that area for some reason also, but I think a head crash of some kind is more likely. The box at the end was certainly a surprise, thanks for showing and that is exciting to see : ))
The sectors were not marked past that point because the computer could not read them. Error, drive not ready. Format terminated. That entire last section is inaccessible.
Started getting into that box this week and half the drives have significant problems. Lost most of the Maxtor drives and a few Seagate drives. Lots of bad sectors and one with track zero unreadable. Mostly 2GB through 6GB. I have a 3.4 GB Fujitsu, Quantum Fireball ST, or a Western Digital to use in a project that passed the surface tests.
@@matthewsvideos8235 Were they all good beforehand and some just got the problems in storage? Sorry to hear that not all of them ended up working, maybe with enough attempts you can get some of the sectors back? I wonder if that was caused from just sitting or from the way you stored them, as conditions like a garage don't seem to be kind to drives with the temperature changes, but I'm pretty sure you stored them inside in a temperature controlled environment. Well hopefully the others continue to work properly.
@@cdos9186 It could be age or storage. I did not do a surface test on these drives before I put them in storage. My drives and other parts have always been inside near my every day use computers on a shelf. I did get a Fujitsu drive picked out for my 486. Just working on a test for drives that my older test procedures can’t work with due to fat32 partitions. Windows 95 and newer.

@@matthewsvideos8235 That is a real tragedy, can't even format it properly, at least in MS-DOS....darn...poor thing : ((
