1979 play 2024 #2
HL2DM 1979 map and plugin tests 2024 #2
This is the second round of tests on BNF 1979. I have gotten most of the plugins a bit more reliable and not conflicting with each other as much. Overkill, bully bonus, most of the sounds, deathmessages and kill effects are all working. The biggest issue I still have is the Postal kill counter that triggers weapon spawns and others. I do have the quake sounds part working and give health through sourcemod. More work to do.
I start with dm_crawlspace and have found a problem that was not there before. If you try to use the elevator the map will crash. I will have to recompile it to fix this. Also shown is dm_hellhole_b174_cave.
On some of my own maps I have used some older trap ideas from Hellhole and Meatgrinder. Used on my map dm_baseraid is what someone called the robot head with a bait of an RPG launcher and it tries to eat you. I gave it some teeth after and it will say a few things after. You may recognize it if you play Team Fortress 2.
I also have a sawblade trap and the hall N00btube that has an added kill button if some dumbass gets trapped.
Lastly I am on dm_[jags]_rat_xmas when Dark was on during a check on the main server working out some bugs. He got a few spawnkills on me.
I have also found out that the Steam game recording does not record your microphone (settings maybe) or the audio from the webpage soundtrack.

This video is showing work I have been doing on the Half-Life 2 Deathmatch server I host. Brand New For 1979. I have gotten a few plugins working again after Valve software released a game update that broke much of the third party plugins. Now that some of the developers have updated crucial programs for the servers, I have been able to experiment with some new material again. The first part sh...
286 Hard drive check
มุมมอง 1585 หลายเดือนก่อน
After having to low level format my main hard drive in my 286 after some corruption from a possible past cold format I ran some test programs I got from @TheDiskMaster on both drives after I restored all my data from another machine. I ran hdat and hdtest and the performance was what I expected from these drives. I also verified both A: and B: drives worked. After the tests I fixed other issues...
NEC D5124 40 Years
มุมมอง 635 หลายเดือนก่อน
My NEC D5124 10MB hard drive is now 40 years old. By today's standards this drive is hopelessly slow, but for it's day is was way faster than a 5.25 floppy disk that held 360KB of data. There is not much on the drive besides dos and a few utilities so I am running benchmark and seek test to hear the sounds of the drive. HDtest from @TheDiskMaster and Norton Utilities 8 Sysinfo hard drive benchm...
Seagate ST-412 Startup
มุมมอง 556 หลายเดือนก่อน
After being in storage for a year and a half I brought it out the Seagate ST-412 10MB drive for a quick power up to loosen up the bearings from storage. This time bringing it out later in the year it did not grumble for as long as when I have brought my MFM drives out in February. I did the first loud startup and then a few minutes later another startup that was not as loud. This drive is out o...

Quick power up of my NEC D5124. This is my oldest hard drive in my collection and is only 10MB and takes a 5.25 bay. This would have been found in some of the earliest IBM compatible PC’s Dated July 1984 Cylinders 309 Heads 4 Sectors 17 No bad blocks. Not bad for a 40 year old hard drive. More footage to come.

One of my longer videos of 4612 on a drive to a display at the request of Translink. From Langley at 203 street we take hwy 10 West until it meets with hwy 99 North. After going through the George Massey Tunnel and over the Oak Street Bridge we go along Oak street to the BC Children's Hospital to Devonshire Cres. After a few hours showing our bus (and a recharge of my camera) we headed back to ...

Buses featured at events; 1957 GM TDH-4512 #730, 1964 GM TDH-4519 #4612, 1982 T6H-5307N #4107, 1947 Brill T-44 trolley coach #2040, and 1954 Brill T-48A trolley coach #2416. A big thankyou to all the volunteers of the Transit Museum Society.
GM Side Roll sign box
มุมมอง 193ปีที่แล้ว
Showing the inner workings of a side destination sign box from a GM Newlook Fishbowl. Most of the Newlook buses from the 1960's to the 1980's used the same design with only minor changes. For the demo I used a roll from the Port Coquitlam yard that is part of bus system in Metro Vancouver's suburbs. Sometimes these rollers do jam, but are easy to clear. The text faces to the outside of the bus ...
Quad chasing signal arrows
มุมมอง 141ปีที่แล้ว
This is a project my Father and I made out of signal modules salvaged from Vancouver Fageol and Brill buses that were built in the 1940's and 1950's. Some of these parts were in poor but salvageable condition. The glass lenses were repainted and the housings were stripped and painted silver inside. My father did the woodworking and I did the electronics for the chasing function. This is one of ...

THE CLICK OF HELL
Skytrain delightfully wrap
Nothing beats the sound of a 2 stroke Detroit
The 8051A is an amazing design-moving magnet voice coil rather than moving coil as is the norm. Love the sound. BTW, you shouldn’t find bad sectors as they are mapped out.
I miss driving newlooks so bad! Best job of my life!!!
Damn, i remember that disk check screen, or something very similar.
New Sub: Detroit, Michigan, US Make that Baby Click! LOL
Still sounds good as new! What a wonderful drive! You certainly have been taking good care of it as well : ))
I try to put the best drives I have into the 286. Some variety besides the common Seagate drives.
I miss those buses . Those were my childhood years . I miss the old #15 Cambie-Downtown & Tenth & UBC
Pretty incredible that for being 40 years old, there is no bad blocks! That really shows the quality and care these were assembled with!
Another video of it running and booting. th-cam.com/video/3x2xs8hGNgE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gMlUi9S1POOzXvLn

The old sound Is much better!!! 💙
I remember this drive from the first PC I ever owned- a 5271, which had the extended 3270 keyboard and 5272 colour display.
This is out of my IBM 5160 that is on my shelf with an ST-251. When I start it up next after sitting for 18 months, it will grumble with loud bearings for about 10 minutes and quiet down after. I have it on my channel from the last time I first started it out of storage.
This drive uses a linear voice coil actuator, not a stepper.
I later found that out. As of this writing I have it out on the bench to help set up an MFM testing rig with a Pentium that also has an IDE channel active for moving data.
Where I am,the buses used Detroit 6V-92 engines.A very distinctive sound indeed.
Vancouver did have many 6V92TA engined buses. Starting with 1982 GM Newlook T6H-5307N used as Hillclimbers. The 1987, 1989, 1990 Classics, 1991 / 1992 D40 and 1991 D60’s all had a 6V92TA. All those were gone by 2010 and now the last of the Series 50 engines are gone along with the last of the D40LF’s from revenue service as of March 2024.
Vroom 🏎️ vroom goes the city bus 🚌
That's all the Flyer 800's did well. They made the sound, but were gutless even among buses.
Sweet Jesus
wow reminds me of my childhood riding one of those :) good times
A little over 15 years for a drive isn't bad, shame that one failed the way it did. Wonder how many hours that one had on it before it completely failed. I really love those basic WD's and have always had great luck with them and most of mine are still going strong. Wonder if that one started to have a head fail or if it had a small crash on the platters that wasn't visible in the video : ((
I found a 1967 GM TDH 3501 I used to ride on as a kid which is now my RV. Yay. Good to see your video.
I remember riding those trolley buses when I was young!
Lots of CRAZY milanimal pics!
Very nice! I have that exact same model and mine has around 70k of bad sectors They seem to be stable ... not worried it is less that 0.5% of the drive capacity It has DOS 5.0 and from time to time I bring it out of storage so it can exercise its legs :)
Arms, you mean? They're not legs, but hey, Call it Whatever you want.
Sometimes 4000 series Seagates have an issue with the actuator sled lock. My ST-4096 had such an issue when I bought it, and it took several power cycles for the sled to unlock. It hasn't given me any trouble since. I believe that particular linear voice coil design actually came from Atasi. It uses a semicircular pole piece and circular linear rails with tangential ball bearings.
Sounds about right about the lock. There is a later video of it working properly. I will probably be bringing it out soon to check it again.
I had my ST-4053 out this month and all the data tests passed. The actuator made a bit if a high pitched whine in some positions. I have passed your comment to the user Diskmaster who is having a very bad time with any model of ST-4000 series that will not pass a seek test after unboxing. Probably sitting too long.
Ever since I was a small kid I wanted to drive a Fishbowl. My career took me in another direction but I finally got to once, for TransLink's trainablility test when they had a Fishbowl for it. Childhood dream come true!
In Cuba we had buses exactly like this one with a small window before and after the back door. They arrived in Cuba at the end of the 1950's and were already in use in the USA. We also had a small version! They had automatic transmission and air suspension and seemed like they were floating above the streets! Congratulations to the engineers and designers of those Old Look GMs! ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👋👋👋👋👋👋 It would be interesting to see if there are promotional videos of those buses with their creators! !!!Applause! 👋👋👋👋👋
Modern drives: noooooo you looked at me wrong nowI have 2 bad blocks, I'm not here anymore Vintage ST drive: what's a head missing? I have 6 more to go, It was additional weight on my actuator anyways
Gosh i love these buses. Wish i could have been a driver and drove these for a living
Lovely drives, the D5146 is a rather unusual beast in its own right. 4 platter D5126 - And still half height! A shame you didn't get the high performance optical servo variant, the D5146H
All of my drives were pulled from long obsolete computers or from bins at resellers. My only voice coil drives are my two Priam full height, two Mitsubishi half height, and a Magnetic Peripherals drive with a speed issue seen in part two, bad drives.
A Fishbowl with a 6V92TA? That's a rare beast!
Available from 1982 to 1986. They had a bit too much torque for the bus and some reinforcement on the structure was needed and the original spec was detuned. I have newer videos on the Chanel.
I could be wrong but I believe that Vancouver also purchased several CCF trolley buses as well as some overhead wiring (principally for parts) from Calgary Transit when they discontinued their trolley bus system in 1975.
Probably buses for parts like the Kitchener Ontario ones. Only the second hand buses from Saskatoon, Winnipeg, and possibly some from Regina (not sure about the last one) were put into service in Vancouver.
Очень приятная работа двигателя на холостном ходу.Звук -бальзам для уши!
Me gusta el autobús
how old am i? i rode around in these bad boys all the time as a kid.
So nice
These buses had such a distinctive sound... like a whirring howl... set it apart from the GM Fishbowls, and even the later V-drive Flyers.
I used to ride on those buses to school everyday some wer trolley and otherswere diesel depanding what route you rode, they were all taken out in 1975 and the trolley wires were removed the diesels lasted a little longer.
You are correct about when the diesels were pulled from service. The Brill Trolleys in Vancouver lasted until 1984 with some being as old as 35 years. The last in Canada.
I prefer the sound of the original two strokes. 6V53 was used on french buses in the 70's.
*promo sm* 👀
GM had far too much market share in a country that touts a free market. Only selectively it looks like.
So much and they built bodies that lasted so long that GM started losing money in the bus business that they finally did themselves in. So they primarily focused on the automotive area afterwards. Now it's New Flyer that has a big market share.
I read Flxible took GM to court when they refused to sell them their engines as they competed with the New Look.
@@jamesfrench7299 Part of that refusal to sell engines was a reason Canadian Car & Foundry had to go to the UK to get a Diesel engine for their 50’s buses. Instead of a pancake version of a 6-71 GM engine (later Detroit Diesel) they used a British AEC AH-690 or similar engine. Look up the CD-52 bus on my channel. Good thing Flxible had the balls to call out GM on this.
It looks very new 😍
It was one of the last 7 Brill trolleys built in Canada. The museum does their best to make it look good. More video from last summer.
Yo pensaba ke eran de sbmarca parlo pero noson
Amazing old bus. Very pretty. Cool engine diesel sound. Thumbs up! :) Sad to read about the driver. RIP.
The British engines do have a different sound compared to most of the ones in North America. Harry was a wonderful man, but Mother Nature catches up with all of us.
May she live forever!✌️👍
I drove for church in what I believe was a 1948 40 foot Brill that was an old Greyhound. It had a HallScott Pancake 6 under the floor with 4 speed. 24mph up hills at full throttle and got 3mpg on a 100gal tank of gasoline. Bakersfield to Sacramento on a full tank! Reverse was 1st or 2nd gear, then push a button on the wall by the drivers seat, let the clutch out and hope for the best.
Sounds like a Brill IC-41. I read an article about the Greyhound buses that a GM Silverside PD-4151 would leave 15 minutes earlier than the IC-41 with the Hall Scott, and the IC-41 would catch and pass the GM Silverside on the freeway. The Hall Scott was not great off the line, but was good on the freeway.
FYI these drives have autopark, doesn't need to be parked.
Indeed it does. I am in the habit of doing it since my other IDE steppers do not auto park.

Here in Brazil, we had a model similar to this one that circulated on the streets of Santos (CSTC trolleybus) until 1991, if I'm not mistaken.
