    Story 2 - NEVER do a fake fire. If somebody does a fake fire to satisfy a Karen, _raise hell and demand their higher up and unleash your own inner Karen_ because this otherwise encourages Karens

    • @Joe_______
      @Joe_______ ปีที่แล้ว

      OP is just a little wimp so he was happy with it and kept shopping there forever.

    • @cmlemmus494
      @cmlemmus494 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      More to the point, it's also bad for business. You are losing the customer you are fake firing in order to keep the customer who you already know to be an issue. While I agree that the fake fire encourages the behaviour, that's an intangible result that most managers won't consider; pointing out that you WILL complain to their own higher ups that you were treated badly by staff after being harassed by another customer is a tangible result that they can easily grasp.

    • @Joe_______
      @Joe_______ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cmlemmus494 But the customer is some idiot who thinks this is a 'fun move' to get fake fired and keeps going back for literally the rest of his life and spending thousands more dollars at the store, in addition to 'befriending' the manager who fired him. (aka knowing the managers name and the manager acknowledges that he's a "Store"-going bitch who will always come back due to knowing the people who work there)
      In most cases you would be analyzing this correctly, but sometimes you've got a little-bitch OP like this one, in which case the manager actually makes the right move since LBOP will never complain to corporate and the Karen might actually compliment him as a result of the fake firing. The manager made a calculated decision acknowledging the little bitch-ness of the OP and figured it was very low risk to placate the Karen so he did that. And LBOP who of course "was fed up with the Karen" simply took it up the ass.

    • @tr4nsg0th1ca

    I understand why Tom did it but I still don't think it's a good idea Tell a random customer that they're fired because the idiot Karen thinks the random customer works there. You are empowering the Karen by giving them what they want and so they're going to keep on doing it to other people.

    • @brianaschmidt910
      @brianaschmidt910 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      My response? I want corporate's number. Then complain to the higher ups that I was harassed repeatedly and instead of having the harasser trespassed, the manager allowed it and "fired" me. A customer! And will be sharing my bad experience with everyone

    • @kranberry3318
      @kranberry3318 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brianaschmidt910 Yes! Exactly! I HATE it when they “solve” the problem by pretending to fire the person that’s been harassed. You’re basically telling the Karen “Good job! That’s exactly what you’re supposed to do! Keep up that behavior because you’re always right and should be rewarded!” It’s WRONG and it makes the problem WORSE. They’ll just keep escalating to the point that they hurt people because they feel totally justified in doing so. And calling corporate is the exact right thing in that situation as a fired customer!

    Dude giving certain people power will warp their mindsets. I have seen it happen time and time again.
    I used to work as a tech support agent for Boeing. I helped employees with their equipment. Either troubleshooting or replacements. The Floor Manager knew my mom when she still worked as an employee like my mother. I guess they had some kind of rivalry and my mother was always better than her. So the fact she was in direct charge of her son gave her a twisted chance to get revenge. This woman would write me up for the tiniest things. Would listen to every call I had to write me up for not saying exact words correctly or if I missed a step in troubleshooting. At one point I had enough. I contacted her superior to let them know she had some kind of vendetta against me. By the time they got around to doing anything the FM had already fired me. Like 2 weeks after I was fired an ex coworker told me they fired her for fixating on a specific employee in some sort of vendetta act. Like my calls were recorded for a year so they got to revisit those calls and question every nitpick she made that was just her being petty.

    Married to a Filipino here: the Karen is obsessed with "poor" because the vast majority of the people in the Philippines are poor. My husband grew up thinking spam was a delicacy. Milk for him was condensed milk or powdered that they had to turn into milk for the family. If the customer was neutral, I would be neutral in my responses too, that is still okay. If they were a bit unpleasant, I would be a bit sharp in my tone, without being rude altogether. However, if I was greeted with shouting, you'll bet yo ass if that call lasted less than 30 seconds

    Story number two: as someone who spent many years in customer service with a large swath of that time in retail and the remainder of that time as a server, I can tell you you never ever give in to a hostile or violent customer. You ban them and put them on the do not serve list. Now, with corporate establishments, that's a little bit more difficult to achieve because they can always appeal or tell some great big fictional sob story to the higher-ups at home office then get free stuff or amenities for life. With that said, Tom is a bad, useless conflict resistant manager. Playing along and coddling someone, who is so obviously in the wrong, while satisfying their delusions just to placate them by firing someone that clearly doesn't work for the establishment is tantamount to harassment. It only emboldens these entitled jerks to think that they can walk around like their stuff don't stink causing havoc everywhere they go. I would have ripped the lady a new one using so many four-letter words and vulgar language that it would have left her head spinning. I don't care how friendly the manager was with OP. Playing the devil's advocate and making OP a casualty of that Karen's narcissism just really irks me. I would have boycotted the place and wrote a not so nice review online.
