Honda Monkey | More HP (For Real This Time)! | Also, how to reset the ECU and TPS!

  • In the ongoing question of "what else can I do to the Monkey?" today we swap out the stock camshaft with a new one from TB Cam. Along with the camshaft, I also sent off my ECU to be flashed by DHMotoring so I can up the rev limiter and perhaps grab 2-3 more HP.
    This video also includes how to reset the ECU and TPS just in case someone needs a little help with their Monkey or Grom.

      @@UnknownOverLand The quality of your video is really good. The sound quality while riding is excellent and the editing is top notch! I'd love to see some drone shots added and perhaps some music added in parts where you go through the US landscape - to see how it could look check out "million dollar bogan" he's a crazy Aussie who uses a lot of drone shots and has some nice editing tricks. He recently did a trip on a Monkey bike which is how I ended up on your channel :)

      Thank you so much for this feedback, it really helps. I’ve been trying to figure out how to incorporate some drone shots, so I’ll make that a bit more of a priority to include. I’ve really enjoyed Bogan’s vids and just that crazy adventure as well. Thanks again, I’m going to try and keep making better videos.

    If you really want more power from your Grom or Monkey you need a big bore kit, intake, and exhaust. My 2014 Grom with a 164cc Yuminashi kit, full Akrapovic exhaust, and open air K&N intake makes about 15hp, and takes my 200lb body over 70mph with stock gearing and 10k redline.

    • @UnknownOverLand
      @UnknownOverLand  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s definitely true, going bbk is the real way to get good HP out of that little engine. I’ll likely do that in not too long, for now I’ve got the intake, exhaust, cam and a HC piston to see how things go.

      The steps that I used were following the steps in the manual (mostly because I worry too much). The tps reset is needed only in certain situations, so it really just depends on what you’re working on.

    Nice video! Apart from the cam, did you changed the valve springs, or tensioner or anything else? I'm thinking of replacing the cam, but i'm worried about the reliability of the bike.

    • @UnknownOverLand
      @UnknownOverLand  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I hadn’t. I was contemplating swapping the tensioner, but at the time I didn’t really see a reason to. The timing was modified by the aracer, though, just to help get detonation a little better in line.

    • @UnknownOverLand
      @UnknownOverLand  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much!
      With the 14T front sprocket and this cam, this bike is mostly low-end torque (at the expense of my top speed). Since I've also went to stiffer clutch springs, the front end of the bike wants to really come up. As I look to getting the top end speed up, I've been contemplating different larger bore kits for my bike but I've yet to head down that path.

    • @tonza3086
      @tonza3086 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unknown Overland how does stiffer clutch springs affect the front wheel coming up?

    • @UnknownOverLand
      @UnknownOverLand  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stiffer springs will put a bit more pressure onto the clutch pressure plate, so when you release the clutch the harder springs will cause them to engage faster.

    You have gone to a lot of effort for a nominal power gain, and that's ok. I have gained considerably more power from my 2019 Honda Monkey with hardly any effort at all. We all know Monkeys are deathly afraid of lions. Well I obtained some potent male lion urine and I added 5 drops of this urine to a full tank of fuel on my Monkey. The results are incredible. My little Monkey is now making over 20hp. Lion urine is the way to go.

    Why did you get the dhm reflash if you kept the bazzaz ?

    • @UnknownOverLand
      @UnknownOverLand  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I went back and forth on this (and, really, still am). Ultimately, because I already had the Z-AFM (self fuel mapper) I opted to keep it installed. This allows me to enable the mapper, go out and ride, and then come back and analyze the fuel/air ratio the bike is actually seeing and apply any changes. I may change my mind in the long run, but pairing that with the raised rev limit and modified ignition timing of the reflash seemed like something I should try.

    The reason the new cam is lighter is they will have taken material off the base circle to increase lift?

    • @UnknownOverLand
      @UnknownOverLand  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Different materials (I believe) and removing a bit of the extra material on the lobes will help it spin a bit faster without push back from the engine. I think they also changed a bit of the cam lobes to change the overall compression timing.

    How fast did you get it? I see some of these videos of people getting their monkeys up to 65-70mph. One thing is replacing the sprocket with a 14 tooth but then i read that only messes up your speedometer making it think the bike is going faster because its spinning faster?

    • @UnknownOverLand
      @UnknownOverLand  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In general I’ve found replacing that front sprocket with a 14t makes the bike more responsive, but you’re right that it’s going to throw the speedo off. I try to report gps speed when I can (either via my phone or from internal to the GoPro), and with those I have yet to reliably get to 70mph. With my current set of mods I should be a lot closer, but I need to make sure everything is broken in well enough before I really push it hard.
