David Miller, I’m trying to see about buying a Grom that has exhaust done to it and when you start it from cold and try to rev it, it kind of bogs down and then kills it. Is that kind of what yours was doing before the ecu reset?
I bit the bullet and did this to my 2017 Msx125 Grom.I was nervous at first, will I blow it up or what ??After doing this all worked as per normal, starting as always and my exchaust(ScProducts stainless low mount) aounds so,so much better. Then riding and its got more torque and perhaps a dot more Hp.This mod works so,so well here in Australia, thanks to all.Ride On,Ride Safe.
Actualy this is called ECU INITIALIZATION, this metode should be done after change air filter, change any sensors on PGMFI system, throtle body disasembly and cleaning, adjusting valves, adjusting idle speed, or after reach 8000Km/ 2x oil change, this metode can be applied in all of honda PGM FI system.
@@mrd2392 Yes you should. After the procedure let the ECU learn gas + air mixture, usually you will feel the engine speed feels like choked but after 100-500km, feel of open filter will affect.
Good job Bro!!! Looks super easy. I just put a Big Gun on and the Grom came with a Chimera Cold Air Intake mod. Ive got about 1K on it with the pipe. Dont have the cash now for a processor. Will the reset still be good for this? Thanks for the videos I really enjoy them
Lmao. All it is doing is creating a connection to the computer that an ecu flash would do. You can reset your cars check engine light too with this same method. I think on the obd2 ports its 4 and 6
Yo Anthony I have a flashed ecu from cjr for the Grom and was wondering if I did the reset with the paper clip would it take the map of the upgraded ecu back to stock or keep the map cjr put on it
Everything on my grom is stock (besides the mirrors). After having it for 2yrs I’ve finally decided to go more in depth with the modding and slap on a yoshimura exhaust. Would it a safe bet to reset the ecu like you did in this video here, even though I’m just putting on a new exhaust and nothing else?
@@ALLDAYANTHONY sorry i have a question to. On my grom 2018 it is not plug in. Is this normal? I tried to do today the ecu reset but it was unpluged... Sry for my english...
Did you do it? I put my stock exhaust back on cause my speedo was fked up saying im going 73 when im really going 50. And it bogged down real bad after the exhaust was put on. I guess i could try this.
I recently bought a grom with only 150 miles on the clock. I'm going to install an after market exhaust and I'm wondering if it's necessary to reset the ECU, with there being so little miles?
It's best to do. Is it absolutely necessary? No. If you make a change to your engine the ECU has to slowly make changes overprinting what's already there. Takes time. It you re-initialize the ECU you start clean and it adapts to your changes much faster. You still have to go through different stages to let it learn, idleing, mid range, wide open, transitions, deceleration, etc., but why wait to see if your change made a difference to your Grom?
@@pedrojoseismael Yeah. Idle, cruise, WOT. We don't know if anything else was done. Probably not, but it's used. Cam, intake, injector, sprockets, 428 chain? The ECU will easily adjust to an exhaust, as far as I know, or any single big change, but it's easy to do, so why not? Stuart asked if it was necessary. The short answer is No. I was just pointing out it's not the miles, but the changes made.
The word comes from the world of waves and riptides; 'grom' is used to refer to a young surfer who's going far and aiming to turn pro. The story goes that Honda America would have had a trademark infringement if it had called Honda's new bike 'MSX125'.

And that was even changing the front sprocket tooth to a 14. I should have gained alot of torque but it didnt. Glad i found this video. I was looking up how to correctly seat align the pro taper bars. I feel like mine are not fully like the stock.
How about a 2021 KLX300SM. The power command sucks, only have EJC which is ok. If this works is seam getting a fuel controller or power commander is a waste of money ???
That's reset and the fuel injection. Turn throttle one time into Mode1, two times into Mode2, three into Mode3, and four into Mode4. More digit means leaner. You'll see the blinker in the end change. Work for all Honda FI small bikes, such as wave dream cub ct monkey zmX, etc.
@@OfficialMudandRubber no the mods you did made the bike leaner, you have more air in the engine now it needs more fuel. You can't just reset the ecu if you did the intake. You need the bike tuned by DHM or someone
