      The Mexicans have been screaming this since Perez joined the team. Almost 4 years later and he still only has 6 wins to his name. He's been driving a superior car for 4 years and hasn't dented his team mate at all. He is not the ideal team mate either because he is constantly missing when he is needed most. RB should have been racking up 1-2's for years now. There are no benefits for RB to sabotage his car. He just doesn't perform under pressure. He may be at a disadvantage but not at the level that the other teams are consistently surpassing him and also not at a level that would sabotage his qualifying.

    Perez is certainly not the biggest brainiac on the track. Brasil '23 was another one of those "duh, what do I do" moments. Change your racing lines to get all the benefits you need. Last years Red Bull was fast, but not "outdrag a Ferrari with open DRS" fast...and definitely not when you are Perez.
    If one really sifts through things, you can easily say that of the current grid nobody even comes close to the attacking/ overtaking style of Verstappen. He'll do it at the first possibility and he'll make sure you can't do a switch back or something. Other drivers know this and that's why hardly any of them defend against Max, since you'll only smoke your tires.

  • @datagus

    Just a bit of context: Of course you can overtake cars in Turn 3, and even defend if the overtaken car has DRS and tries to regain the position. Perez had been overtaken most the cars in that turn because he trusted his car's power to defend. He even overtook Norris with DRS open between before Turn 4. Perez's mistake was to be overconfident with his car and understimate Sainz's, and that's why he got desperate.
    The thing is that Perez's engineer was too late with the recommendation. Remember that is group work. I am sure that Giapiero Lambiase would have alerted Perez earlier.
    There is no discussion who is better Perez vs Verstappen. It is more than demonstrated that Verstappen is the best driver in the world in recent history.

  • @janismateuss
    @janismateuss 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +49

    While the DRS tactics is more obvious, what is less obvious is the brilliance of Verstappen's other decisive and smart moves.
    One example is when he has large overspeed on the car defending and he is given the inside line, he will close the DRS and lift way early not to overtake before the corner and not to give the defensive driver chance for slipstream and switch back sides and create problems. He just slows down enough to be side by side, just slightly ahead, giving him a commanding position to turn in from pretty wide, and give no chance of counter move. Makes the move quick, safe and decisive.
    Example comes to mind was on Russel turn 1 Qatar.

    DRS is one of the worst things to happen to F1. It is an inorganic tool given to drivers to allow more takeovers instead of going to the root causes of why overtakes started to dip down and solve the root causes. It created an unnatural racing atmosphere where nothing happens outside of DRS zones and drivers playing leap-frog according to DRS zones. Sad times for F1 😢

      Max said in Bahrain he could never overtake Charles after turn 1 because the Ferrari had far better traction coming out of it and Max eventually overtook Charles and won Jeddah when it was an extremely close race (something like half a second at the end) so there's nothing to forget you're just full of it.

      @@ibrahimalatrash8008 Well, because that's the smarter way. He didn't learn from his mistakes in that race either, because he tried attacking Sainz the same way several times and hasn't realized what his mistake even was until the engineer told him.

      @@rinuko1222 max had warmer tyres than leclerc plus RB18 was ALOT faster in a straight line than F1-75 so if he just stayed behind him he would have overtook him with ease at turn 4. Yeah the Ferrari traction was powerful but it was no match to RBs straight line speed as evident in Jeddah, the first time they met in Jeddah max overtook him at the last corner then leclerc used the traction and DRS to get passed, then after a couple laps before max overtook him and stayed ahead, he stayed behind and leclerc despite having better traction again, max just overtook him with DRS on the main straight

    Perez' defining moment in Abu Dhabi 2021 was when he had to defend against Hamilton on his old softs; Perez came out of the chicane slowly to let the Mercedes pass the DRS detection point first so that his RedBull could have DRS and pass him right back. At the time I wondered if that was a brilliant use of DRS chicken, or dumb luck. _It was absolutely dumb luck💀_

      On top of which RB always develops the car to Checo's disadvantage, they want the worst possible car for their 2nd driver to make winning the constructors championship as hard as possible.

    This DRS game is the only way to make this device fun, too bad it's super rare. I wish it was something they could do easier.
    But ideally F1 should have an algo that disables DRS as soon as it detects speed and closing distance rate is enough to go side by side so DRS won't behave like free pass ticket as it happens 99% of the time
