    I watched that entire race and I’ll never forget what Coulthard said. It was like a video game, he stated that never in his career had he ever seen such a massive pace advantage between two teammates. There was a point in the first stint where Max was consistently 1.5 seconds a lap faster than Perez. I think on average he was 7 tenths quicker a lap but he managed at the end. I will always say that 22’ Spa was Verstappen’s signature race.

      When a driver dominates and wins most of the races there is so much negativity from the community about how bad F1 is, how F2 and IndyCar are better series etc.
      The "see you in 2026" comments from a few months back were just insufferable
      Then when we get a competitive season, the rival fanbases try to tear each other to pieces (case in point Silverstone 2021) instead of appreciating the general excitement on the track

      @@10001000101 I mean, is there a reason to fight what esentially is a battle that you'd just lose time, kill your tyres and still possibly lose because you don't have the car and/or pace to do something about it?, I'm not saying that F1 drivers aren't supposed to race but sometimes it's the smarter choice not to do it and play it cool

      I mean Verstappen had won 9/13 races, two of which where retirements. What are you going to do to beat that? And Verstappen is known to fight relentlessly.
      So by defending him you'd only lose time, ruin your tires and risk a crash. Everyone knew he'd win that race given the pace of that car.

    • @5950ziel
      @5950ziel 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      You absolutely haven't got a clue what you're talking about. Most of these overtakes were UNDEFENSABLE. When your team is 5th in the championship and 10 points behind the 4th and 8 points ahead of the 6th fighting Verstappen who ON HIS OWN is ahead of your team by 200 points makes absolutely no sense.

    • @86niisan8686
      @86niisan8686 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      if thats your logic, fine... but atleast explain it a bit, dont just go 'they didnt want to defend'.
      Basically: they all know he has the fastest car, they all know how great of a driver he is, they all know hes gonna win, they all know they will lose performance of their own car if they defend, THAT is why he was so dominant.... not because they simply decided to not defend against him.

    It's rare to see an F1 car still accelerating after it's pulled out of the draft at nearly 340Km/h, normally they drop some speed straight away and also tend to run out of battery by then.

    • @pimvanduijne
      @pimvanduijne 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      100% it's so weird because he was also fast in the corners iirc, interesting that you mention the battery. Now i'm wondering how much the battery degrades or i guess the battery capacity in particular. Because the checo overtake is fresh vs old PU, we'll never know the deployment of checo off course. But still you are right normally you clearly notice coming out of the draft and here it's like nothing. There is one other thing i can think of and that's a strong wind in your back. It doesn't look like it because the draft looks strong but maybe it isn't.

    What people dont understand is that noone wanted to fight Verstappen anyway. Leclerc being an exception because he in theory had a fast car as well. The midfield teams are all fighting their own fights for lets say p8, and dont want to cook their tired trying to defend against a much much faster RB car. You can really see how everyone just waved him by and didnt bother to defend, most visibly with Ricciardo and Vettel who could have easily covered the inside if they had wanted to in their overtakes, same for Russell and Alonso. They were simply not interested in defending. Perez naturally waved him by given all he ever do was sit back to help out Verstappen.
    The only one even trying a little to defend was Sainz on P1, but even he knew that it didnt matter and he would be better of ensuring his car stays save and he finishes on the podium.

    Lets be fair, there are a number of factors at play here. Lets not just assume it was a walk in the park, starting that far back.
    1.This helps highlight the problem with passing aids. It gives every car on the track (especially the strongest) much greater ease in passing and there isn't much of a battle that can be given. This gives the dominant cars even more of an advantage over slower cars.
    2.Max still had to look after the car which also had to function perfectly mechanically. (Tires, engine, etc). One thing failed and it was probably a retirement or loss.
    3.Max has proven he is ambitious enough to push the limits and skilled enough to get the job done against other good drivers on the grid. Regardless of his earlier years in F1, he's proven himself.
    4.Making a pass of 1 or more cars in the first corner of Spa is not anything amazing. The first corner at many tracks is typically a location where many grid places are traded on the first lap regardless of car strength.
    5.(I hate using this comparison since people generally blow it way out of proportion). This reverberates back to Japan 88, when Senna dropped from front of the grid to 16th place, due to a technical problem. He then fought his way be back to catch, pass, and beat teammate Prost for the championship win. Putting on this performance from the middld of the grid deserves more credit. Please do not misunderstand this statement, Max is nowhere in the same universe as Senna, but I do give him credit here because I think its due.

    RBR really, REALLY fucked up somewhere, being a motorsport fan obviously you’re gonna develop a short memory, cars,drivers and teams change like weather in F1 so you need to stay in the moment and look forward to really gauge what cars and teams are improving and declining, with that being said, I completely forgot how fast Max and RBR were… watching F1 since the mid 00s I’ve seen some really fast cars dominate, like Vettel’s RBR team, Brawn for half a season, Mercedes with Nico and Lewis, but what Max and RBR had from 22’ to early 24’ was unbelievable, in years past there was always one to two guys that would come close to the dominant guys, like Danny Ric, Alonso, Vettel at Ferrari, but with Max’s RBR, there was NOBODY that could do anything aside from Singapore.. literally zero chance at coming close to winning if Max stayed out of trouble, which is why what McLaren and Ferrari has done to close the gap mid season is an insane feat that’s not getting the recognition it deserves imo, RBR and Max were on a different planet, McLaren in particular was dead last with speed for a while, so for them to develop the fastest car is so incredible.. and it’s also incredible the way RBR has somehow fallen off a cliff in the span of a few weeks, and they did it so badly that even reversing the failed upgrade and fixing the potential issue didn’t do anything.. this F1 season is being overshadowed by the parity in winners, but honestly the biggest storyline should be how Mclaren and Ferrari in particular closed up to RBR so quickly. It’s really something special to see two teams find the speed to run down a team that was an absolute powerhouse in such a short timeframe.

    That car was completely dominant during that season, Max is a great driver that makes very little mistakes. I just don't like that Perez didn't get the same car after the Monaco race. On side by sides Perez steering, ride, and engine power wasn't the same as Max's. I'm a Hamilton Fan and being unfair to a Driver because he was challenging the number one driver of your team is not being competitive at all. That's an integrity issue.
