  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. TEDxYouth@Manchester is proud to present its 6th TEDxYouth conference on Wednesday 5th November 2014. Our event is presented to 450 post 16 students from The Fallibroome Academy in Macclesfield, UK and to over 150 invited students from local schools. We live stream our conference around the world and our theme is ‘Reset’ and the exciting programme includes brilliant speakers, and stunning student performances.
Karrie Fransman creates comic strips for The Guardian, Telegraph and The Times. Her graphic novel The House That Groaned was chosen as graphic novel of the month by The Observer and her moving life story of Iranian immigrant Ebrahim has received critical acclaim.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Great, inspiring lecture! I regret not having found it before now. Story telling, especially comics, have a universal appeal - across cultural lines.

I've never thought this in depth about comics. You made them sound so much more interesting than just the thought of it just being a comic! I've never thought about them being used to communicate with people from other countries and being able to tell actual stories.
