Ok so it happened again today and what I realised is that, it always occurs 15 or 16 seconds after I hit record for the first time. Last time it was in the air for only a few seconds when I started to record and 15 secs later, no signal. This time I flew around for several minutes before hitting record but once again,16 seconds later I've lost signal. Could the video recording be triggering this issue? Even weirder is that when the signal is established again, usually only a wee minute later and as drone enters RTH mode, it automatically starts recording again. After the initial signal loss today I cancelled RTH mode and had no further issues. Very strange indeed.
Wow, this is very interesting indeed. Thanks for noting down what happened today. i generally hit record before take off, so this could explain my issues. However, once airborne I do tend to switch between photo and video quite frequently and have never had the issue present itself. It is entirely possible that there could be some sort of bottleneck when you send the record command in conjunction with other flying inputs. I think I will try this out and see if i can replicate it. Thanks again for your comment.

This has happened to me twice now since the .8 update. Make sure to set your RTH to hover. If you have anything above you when it goes into forced RTH it will rise up straight into the obstacle (branches etc). If you set to hover, you will be fine as the disconnect is momentary. Around 5 seconds for me. MY RC disconnect in advanced safety settings was set to RTH and when it did it i had branches above the drone and flying over water. Could have been bad. It started to rise and I shat it but luckily a foot from the branches my connection came back and I could cancel RTH. The mini 2 was 8ft from me...... Worrying. Excellent advice there thanks. I’ve only suffered this when it’s been at the start of the flight and in close proximity too. I don’t panic when it’s off on it’s travels as I know I will have set RTH correctly. I do set RTH to hover when I’m working close by or going through tunnels and bridges etc. Thanks again 👍🏻
@@HeatonPhotography101 definitely an in addressed issue here. It’s the Fly app as MA2 doing it also although not as bad but since the last 2 fly updates my range has taken a significant hit. Open areas I’m losing connection at 700m. Even with the MA2
Well, last night I sent the drone up at dusk. Went out to 670m (with a strobe to maintain VLOS) and it had all manner of problems. Normally you would expect it to lose connection, screen go black, then RTH. This time it kind of got stuck in a loop. It kept reconnecting, then losing connection, the reconnecting, every couple of seconds so RTH would not kick in! I solved this by trying to climb (which as you can imagine took some time) until the point where signal was restored and I flew it home. Something is definitely amiss with this little drone at the moment.
@@HeatonPhotography101 similar to my experience too. I fly with Android usually and it’s been great for a year but Om going to do some tests with the IPhone today to see if it is to do with the phone platform. Which phone do you use?
I’m using an iPhone 11. I will be interested to hear your results. At this time I don’t think it’s my phone as the symbology and map are all still functioning. I think it is an antenna fault, either on the drone or in the controller. I’ve looked at both and there are no visual signs of any damage etc, and my drone hasn’t been dropped or crashed, it gets treated like a precious flower 😂😂
I've owned several drones and have had connection issues with all of them at some point. I've never been sure what's caused it but thankfully nothing serious has ever occurred and the drones have always returned safely. I never really 'trust' using a mobile phone as the visual conduit between the controller and its information and this seems to be a common issue when people describe app crashes and lock up's. In terms of that, the best experiences that I've had with drones have been with specific controllers that don't use a phone. The GoPro Karma (don't judge 😜), Phantom 4 with built in controller and most recently the DJI Smart Controller that I use with my Mini 2. It's a bit extreme and a lot of expense, but in my experience, a dedicated controller has always been the most reliable option for me. From what you've described, it seems like you have quite a specific fault that could come from the drone, its controller or even your phone and so its very difficult to narrow it down in that sense. Do you know anyone who has a Mini so that you could try another controller for instance and then maybe their drone with your controller just to try and eliminate a variable or two? Anyway, I hope you get it sorted and can get back to enjoying flying rather than it becoming an anxiety filled experience 😉
Great suggestions thanks. In my experiences listed here, the drone has been only a few metres away. As soon as i get the disconnect, the sticks become unresponsive.
I need to check my flight logs. I had an issue a couple weeks ago and thought I was going to have a rouge drone as it would not respond. I kept fighting it and managed to bring it in and land. Bad feeling when you are low over a river and trees all around.
mine disconnected in flight 22meters high, 350 meters away . never reconnected ever! and try turn off full battery, will not turn off just goes to one white light and other light flashes for England.. permanently broken... :-(
Had similar issues and after some researching pinpointed it to the cable between the controller and my phone. I use the USB C cable (android) and simply rotated the end going into my phone and have never had the issue since.
But the display on the phone isn’t going off? It’s the connection between the controller and the drone. I wouldn’t think the wire would affect this problem.
The picture is gone, but the symbology is still there. It’s the fact the drone becomes unresponsive which makes me feel the fault is with the controller as opposed to a phone issue. I could be wrong though and we need to explore all possible reasons for the fault. 👍🏻
@@HeatonPhotography101 This is exactly what was happening with me then. Even if I was doing quickshots they'd stop mid way. There's a couple of posts about it on the DJI Forums about the cable being the issue and I've not had it since I rotated the USB C cable going into my phone.
Had the same issue for a week. Doesn't seem to be any good reason for the loss of connection. Not had this problem before and its putting me off flying. Hope they sort it soon!
It does knock your confidence in the drone doesn’t it? Thanks for your comment, and the sub. Last few firmware updates seems to have upset the balance a bit for this drone.
@@HeatonPhotography101 for sure, my confidence in it dwindles a little more everytime I take it up recently. First happened to me last week when trying to get shots of the Indiana Jones 5 film set in Glasgow, signal loss, no control of the drone which was only 5 feet above my head, then I had to watch in horror as it drifted back and hit a building. At first I thought the film crew had somehow blocked it, Haha . Plagued by this issue ever since.

Can you tell us the version of the FW from the drone and which version of the fly app are you using .I have the same problem with my mini2 and also still the horizon gimbal problem.
@@stevengatherer7038 you do not know which country he is flying in, so the rules may be different where he is. This issue I am having is with the mini 2 disconnecting at less than 60 metres from me. Let's stay on topic please.
Hi, the issue can be sorted out with 2 tips. Try reinstall application and if possible also give it a try with android as the issue is with app showing wrong info may caused by some bugs. Moreover 2nd option could be slightly time taken as you need to open your rc and disconnect the battery for few minutes and reconnect. Hope this helps
Never had an issue. Reading through the comments, I'm initially thinking it's common. However, I wonder if this is self-selective - on that those with the issue are searching TH-cam for this. Have you contacted DJI support folks?
My mini 2 just flew into a tree. I was rising up to capture the sunset and one of the motors cut out. Absolutely nothing I could do about it.. Very little damage but I have to get the motor replaced. Had over 70 flights logged. Very sad. Bought it in November so my 90 day warranty was long gone. I'm not sure if I'll ever trust or buy another dji product. Autel or Parrot for now on.
I've had this a few times too. I don't think this is a connection issue - I think this is evidence of the software running on the drone itself crashing. The drone doesn't fall out of the sky because the flight control system is either on a separate CPU or at the very least on a separate process.
@@HeatonPhotography101 I'll be honest - I've not been flying it enough recently to really say. Once the weather improves and I start using it again I'll update this post.
I’m having similar issues. My mini 2 connection goes from strong to weak in an instant when I fly 200 ish meters away . Very worrying when I get warnings and it shows fault 80004 . Posted on on forums but no help except the obvious like pointing remote at the drone at all times. Help please .
I'm wondering if there's an ongoing fault with yours? I've had mine a few months with a few hours flighttime in the bag including in the house and it's continued to amaze me with no tx connection issues at all.send it back to dji and get it checked maybe I'm not sure?

Having issues every flight where app crashes firmware all up to date occasionally functions wont work like changing from video to camera or zoom not working all on a brand new s20 fe which is only used for the mini 2 app is definitely buggy as hell. My mavic pro never gives a bit of bother not once
Is this the mini 2 bud? I know it says mini 2 in the title but at the top of your flight/map info it says p mode and I thought that were a mini 1 flight mode as on the mini 2 its called N mode?
Happend to me all the time😎 But then I tried with the Phone in "Flight-mode/airplane-mode" (i'm not sure if thats the english word for it). But with the Phone in this mode, it never happend again. I've been writing a lot with Dji about this issue, but I don't think they want to admit there is a problem here.....
Happened to me gazillion times. Been flying Airplane Mode too for a while, but unfortunately same issues. Hope DJI will admit to you that there is indeed a bug on their new update. Keep us posted please. Thanks.

I'm having a very similar issue as soon as I take off I get a few feet away and then my RC loses connection to the Drone and it starts returning to home that is a very scary and uncomfortable situation they really need to fix this because it has me scared to fly. And I've had my drone for a few months and I never had this problem until a month ago and it hasn't stopped ever since. Has anybody found a solution today?
I had the same problem on Android, but after installing the latest version of 1.4.8, I haven't had a disconnection problem so far. Are you aware that there have been several 1.4.8 revisions? The last one is 1120. However, the application still crashes occasionally, but without losing the connection.
I have never had this problem in over 50 flight hours and I am flying amongst many hills, valleys, cell phone towers, power lines, etc. I always fly in sport and over 300m alt/ 1,8 km max distance. No problem in any modes. I’m sure you have done all calibration so it must be a dud, mate. 😕 (Durban, South Africa). DJI should look at it!
I put a vid up on my channel a couple weeks ago with same issue and it is the latest update I did causing it. You will notice if you keep flying at about 15 minutes in your vid will go blocky
This also started to happen to me recently. I fly the drone for a few minutes and sometimes it disconnects randomly even when it's 20 meters away from me. I'll try to downgrade
Hi Ovi Lord. Thanks for your comment. Let us know how you get on with rolling back your firmware, and if it cures the problem, please let us know which version you went back to. cheers.
So I didn't do anything with the firmware but I downgraded the app. I installed the old version 1.4.4 (android) and there is no more shuttering on my screen and no more random disconnections, no more black screens
@@ov1lord That sounds like a good plan to me. I flew quite a lot a couple of days back and suffered a lot of what you have. I'm one revision back from the latest as far as aircraft firmware is concerned, so will leave that as is for now, but I'm definitely downgrading the Fly App to 1.4.4 which I was always happy with.

@@HeatonPhotography101 This has been discussed a lot on the drone shows I watch, good thing I don't fly too much in cities, the last thing you want is to lose connection with all of those potential hazards
Yes. I’m not too worried about loss of connection when I’m out flying as I have every confidence in the drone coming back with RTH. Taking the time to ensure it’s all set up and locked in before zooming off is part of my routine. My worry is when it has just taken off and it is at just above ground level. RTH needs to be over 20m away. In this close proximity, the drone has a higher chance of banging into something or drifting into danger, or not returning.
I'm using mini 2 for last 6 months, so far very good experience, but recently having some issues.. while flying at a very short distance 10m to 50m or sometime less distance i found very low signal strength followed by aircraft not connected with RC/ RC signal lost warning, At that point i have no control over my drone then it return to its home point automatically which is quiet frightening may crash anytime. i assume it all started after downloading latest firmware version and its not a hardware issue as i never crash my drone. Point to be noted this problem occured suddenly. Action done: 1. Cleared Cache of the fly app but problem persists. 2. Reinstalled the dji fly app but problem remains 3. Used old version of app but not solved 4. Downgraded the firmware version by using dji assistant 2 but no result 5. Used different phone and connector still the same.. 6. Tried to fly the drone at different location but effort went in vain. If anyone having same issue with dji mini 2 please give a penny for your thought regarding this matter.
Already commented in this thread. So annoying. I heard (from android users) that the issues (if not all) were resolved after downgrading. Might as well try that route.

Is happening to me every time I fly it now. Several app crashes per flight. Not much fun anymore.
That’s not good Bill. Are you saying the app quits during flight? Are you on apple or Android?
Frustrating as well and scary.
I need to check my flight logs. I had an issue a couple weeks ago and thought I was going to have a rouge drone as it would not respond. I kept fighting it and managed to bring it in and land. Bad feeling when you are low over a river and trees all around.
Nothing worse than an unresponsive drone is there!
mine disconnected in flight 22meters high, 350 meters away . never reconnected ever! and try turn off full battery, will not turn off just goes to one white light and other light flashes for England.. permanently broken... :-(
I have experienced this a few times as well. Close range signal loss/ disconnect. About 10 -20 seconds of rising anxiety;-)
Thanks for your comment. It’s not good for the blood pressure is it? 👍🏻
@@HeatonPhotography101 So you're still getting video from the drone?
The picture is gone, but the symbology is still there. It’s the fact the drone becomes unresponsive which makes me feel the fault is with the controller as opposed to a phone issue. I could be wrong though and we need to explore all possible reasons for the fault. 👍🏻
@@HeatonPhotography101 This is exactly what was happening with me then. Even if I was doing quickshots they'd stop mid way. There's a couple of posts about it on the DJI Forums about the cable being the issue and I've not had it since I rotated the USB C cable going into my phone.
Might be worth me having a lol at that too. Great tip, thanks.
I think that’s the worst part that it’s almost (but not quite) within reach when it stops responding!
Hope it wasn’t damaged too bad.
Yes bit of trouble and getting a lot of drift drone not staying locked in
Hi David. Is this in general or at a specific point in your flights?
I have four days since I bought it and it is perfect for me, I reach 2 kilometers without any problem, I hope it does not happen to me with my mini2, I hope you fix the problem , make a new video if the problem is fixed please. 👍
I am glad that you are not having issues with your drone. Happy flying!
Can you tell us the version of the FW from the drone and which version of the fly app are you using .I have the same problem with my mini2 and also still the horizon gimbal problem.
Latest versions of both the app and the drone.
But 2 kilometres is more than your legally allowed
@@stevengatherer7038 you do not know which country he is flying in, so the rules may be different where he is. This issue I am having is with the mini 2 disconnecting at less than 60 metres from me. Let's stay on topic please.
Hi, the issue can be sorted out with 2 tips. Try reinstall application and if possible also give it a try with android as the issue is with app showing wrong info may caused by some bugs. Moreover 2nd option could be slightly time taken as you need to open your rc and disconnect the battery for few minutes and reconnect. Hope this helps
I am assuming you have a fully charged remote obviously! I have an iPhone 11 and am having no issues yet. I’m a newbie so watch this space.
Hi Neale, thanks for your comment. Yes, everything was fully charged. 👍🏻
Never had an issue. Reading through the comments, I'm initially thinking it's common. However, I wonder if this is self-selective - on that those with the issue are searching TH-cam for this. Have you contacted DJI support folks?
Not yet. But having seen the scale of the response I will be speaking with them 👍🏻
My Mini 2 Same Problem,
hope you get sorted.
Are you still having issues with this?
@@HeatonPhotography101 I'll be honest - I've not been flying it enough recently to really say. Once the weather improves and I start using it again I'll update this post.
I’m having similar issues. My mini 2 connection goes from strong to weak in an instant when I fly 200 ish meters away . Very worrying when I get warnings and it shows fault 80004 . Posted on on forums but no help except the obvious like pointing remote at the drone at all times. Help please .
I've changed my phone and now my mini 2 won't connect to the controller :/
Have you tried to fly it without your phone? If it won’t fly without your phone attached I think there is a more than a phone problem.
That's normal it's either too windy or magnetic interference, wifi or another transmission nearby
in my situation, there was no wind, i was in the open, no wifi or anything else of note.
I'm wondering if there's an ongoing fault with yours?
I've had mine a few months with a few hours flighttime in the bag including in the house and it's continued to amaze me with no tx connection issues at all.send it back to dji and get it checked maybe I'm not sure?
This sounds very weird and not normal. I wonder if wiring problem in drone or controller? I think you should contact DJI and get checked out.
you could be on to something there Jonathan. I will try and do some more research. thanks.
Yeah have you had this problem since the last update?. I had same problem so I backstepd the last update. This guy has shown us how to backstep 1.4.8 TH-cam GHR GAVINHR. 👍👍😷😷😁
Having issues every flight where app crashes firmware all up to date occasionally functions wont work like changing from video to camera or zoom not working all on a brand new s20 fe which is only used for the mini 2 app is definitely buggy as hell. My mavic pro never gives a bit of bother not once
Hi mate the overheating is with OSI phones not a problem for android users 👍👍😷🤣
Thats good to know.
@@HeatonPhotography101 👍👍👍
Is this the mini 2 bud? I know it says mini 2 in the title but at the top of your flight/map info it says p mode and I thought that were a mini 1 flight mode as on the mini 2 its called N mode?
Hi, yes it’s defo a mini 2. 👍🏻
Happend to me all the time😎
But then I tried with the Phone in "Flight-mode/airplane-mode" (i'm not sure if thats the english word for it).
But with the Phone in this mode, it never happend again.
I've been writing a lot with Dji about this issue, but I don't think they want to admit there is a problem here.....
It’s great that you have been in touch with DJI. Keep us posted on how you get on. 👍🏻
Happened to me gazillion times. Been flying Airplane Mode too for a while, but unfortunately same issues. Hope DJI will admit to you that there is indeed a bug on their new update. Keep us posted please. Thanks.
MY new Mini 2 arrives today via DPD delivery , so I downloaded the fly app while awaiting delivery for the Mini 2 and at present I have 1.4.8 ,, geeeze ,, I am pondering ,,do I send it back by DPD having 1.4.8 can I set it to early version as the app has 1.4.8 present
Also I I thought you could fly the drone without connecting with the APP but the drone could drift in winds as the APP is not functioning for stability plus no satellites
Technically you don’t need the app to fly, but it will seriously restrict your enjoyment.
@@HeatonPhotography101 so you can fly without the app ,
Yes you can Bill. Just be careful, especially if you are new to drone flying! And keep it close.
My mini 2 doin great.iv never had any issues
Good to hear.
We are trying to get it in front of dji.
@@HeatonPhotography101 well please keep me posted on any updates or if you guys find any solutions
So far I heard downgrading to 1.4.4 works. I think I have to try that route asap.
I had the same problem on Android, but after installing the latest version of 1.4.8, I haven't had a disconnection problem so far. Are you aware that there have been several 1.4.8 revisions? The last one is 1120. However, the application still crashes occasionally, but without losing the connection.
@@szymonkrezelok5742 how do i install the revisions
I have never had this problem in over 50 flight hours and I am flying amongst many hills, valleys, cell phone towers, power lines, etc. I always fly in sport and over 300m alt/ 1,8 km max distance. No problem in any modes. I’m sure you have done all calibration so it must be a dud, mate. 😕 (Durban, South Africa). DJI should look at it!
Thanks for your comment. I’m confused as it never used to be like this. Something must have changed.
I put a vid up on my channel a couple weeks ago with same issue and it is the latest update I did causing it. You will notice if you keep flying at about 15 minutes in your vid will go blocky
I tried a different phone and it is still telling me there is a IMU on device full. My vid shows this
Hi, I have just had a look at your video, and yes it shows the same issue. I haven't had the CPU warning yet though. Cheers
Mine lost connection then crashed itself into a tree 2 days ago. Broke the front leg. I would be careful using it
Sorry to hear this. Was this straight after take off? Was this a recent issue? Was the drone close to you (50-100m away)
That’s interesting to know. Thanks for the update. Let us know if anything else pops up.
I have same issue on my dji mini2 anyone found solution for this issue??
we just have to wait for updates. nothing else to suggest.
This has happened to me countless times since the last firmware update 🤷🏻
Thanks for the comment. Do you believe it is down to the firmware update then? My experience started around 2 updates ago but I can’t put an exact date on it. My first example from when I started noting these incidents was 15th june 2021. This is the day before the last update was released I believe. Cheers.
@@HeatonPhotography101 I literally never lost connection once before the last firmware update. A few hours ago, I was trying to do a cinematic shot orbiting a couple of ferries leaving Dublin port, this area has an altitude limit of of 30m.... suddenly aircraft disconnected, weak GPS showed up, then it switched to atti mode, a nightmare scenario. This is an issue created my DJI
There certainly seems to be a lot more people having issues than I expected. Thanks for your input, I may need to get the pen out and contact dji.
Action done:
1. Cleared Cache of the fly app but problem persists.
2. Reinstalled the dji fly app but problem remains
3. Used old version of app but not solved
4. Downgraded the firmware version by using dji assistant 2 but no result
Today got reply from dji support centre, they asked me with few informations, already provided them, awaiting Their reply again....
