    Hi, New to flying the Mini2 myself. What I missed in your video was the point that if the app or the phone did crash and you really wanted to
    eeded to bring it back you could always just hit the RTH buton and it would bring it back to you as long as the home point was programmed before you left the area. I'm sure there are plenty of new pilots that would go into panic mode when this happened.

    Before take off, you must be sure to set "Signal Lost" to "Return to Home" , not “Hover” in “Advanced Safety settings” on DJI Fly app. Otherwise it may cause serious problems or crash the drone if RC keeps disconnecting with the drone.

  • @aaronsather1279
    @aaronsather1279 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    If this happens it's always important to stay in control of yourself and your emotions. Don't give in to a resignation mindset "nothing I do matters" or "I've lost control of the situation."
    Take stock of the situation and evaluate the options available to you. If app crashes and you still have control of the aircraft, use RTH (if you can safely do so) or manually fly it back to you and land it. That's part of why VLOS Flight is so important.
    It's also important that checking your safety setting and going over lost link procedures is important during each preflight check.
    All great tips Aldryn, and I wish you'd have made this video back before my DJI Fly app crashed on me during my third ever drone flight.

    Over the last 3+ years of flying different drones using a variety of different devices (IOS, Android) I have experienced all these scenarios at one time or another. The one constant
    thing I always reminded myself: take a breath, stay calm and think logically about what just happened. In all but one of the 7-8 times this has happened, all turned out well. The one time
    it didn't: Autel Evo RC failed. Evo was 50 ft away 12ft height. No biggie. Trying to restart to RC, the drone went into RTH. I watched it fly straight up from 12 ft into a tree branch at 45ft.
    The landing was not pretty. Good video, Aldyn. I still, after all this time, have not hand launched/landed a drone. I have a thing about blood.

      @WW5RM 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you need to practice it. Just like he did in the video. Then you have confidence in it.
      Where I fly capturing wildlife footage its tons of trees. I go through a full disconnect and RTH numerous times each flight! I've actually coined a maneuver. "Drop Down Maneuver". When I find a target and want that close up footage I check the surroundings, get centered in the closest open area, ( if I'm not directly over my target I adjust the angle of the camera to where I think my target will be in frame. ) then drop straight down at 1-2 mph depending on the situation and altitude. It will disconnect. 11 seconds later initiate RTH and reconnect as soon as it regains signal. I cancel RTH and do it again until im satisfied I think I got my shot.
      Then I review the footage and choose the best one. Sometimes they all come out great.
      DJI has GREAT safety features!

    Tip for grabbing your drone to land it:
    It is best you are doing it with the camera facing towards you because:
    - the sensors are further in the back , if you grab the drone from the front they might not even be triggered
    - the propellers in front of the drone are higher than the ones in the back - less risk of accidentally sticking your fingers in the propeller

Could not control the drone with sticks and such. Walked closer and closer about 5 minutes. Was stuck over the tracks. Eventually I shut down the smart controller and restarted it. After it booted the drone finally started its return home. Nothing more confidence inspiring as a new flyer than the tech failing. Still have no idea why and its never happened again. After that I have deliberately done the same things in this video to be comfortable with dealing with failures. I also ruled out interference, knowing that microwave corridors exist and recreated the same flight path over and over and nothing.

Thé drone probably waits to give you a chance to replace the battery or whatever. I wonder if there is a way to set the wait time. I think the ideal would be 3 minutes or less, depending on how much battery is left in the drone. It needs enough battery to get back.

    Nice video, maybe next time show us the failsafe RTH accuracy for the route the aircraft return on, as per manual (page 15) it states the aircraft will fly backwards for 50m on its original flight route then ascend to preset RTH altitude and preform straight line RTH and also if within 20m it will just hover. Just something to keep in mind if there is no visual of the aircraft.

    Fantastic video Aldryn explaining what to do when the seemingly unthinkable happens when airborne thank you, props to DJI it has to be said they've got the safety features nailed on, do you know if the same happens with the fpv drone?

    I've been flying my two Mini 2's for a few years now. The only thing that has ever happened is the app stopping. No big deal, I just restart it and it doesn't happen again. I normally fly 4 to 6 batteries, so when the app shuts down it only happens the one time and it's no problem..just stay calm and deal with it 😀

    Aldryn awesome video as usual brother. Man I'll tell you when my RC disconnected from the drone...it started acting weird not but maybe 10 ft from a river and almost went for a swim. The most butt clenching moment and the longest 30 seconds of my life. Luckily it reconnected within 30 seconds and I had my thumb on the right stick up to lift the drone (right stick up/down altitude control)

    My iphone was facing the sun while i was flying my air 2. My phone went to "Temp too high iPhone needs to cool down". Although my phone was unable to be used while i was flying, the controls/buttons on the controller worked so i was able to safely RTH and safely land it without the camera/screen on. Boy i had a mini heart attack when my iphone screen went black while i was flying.

    People need to know the range of these are NEVER anywhere in the ballpark of what's advertised. I've flown hundreds of km's in many different locations with my Mini 2. I've never flown a mile without losing signal, and it's often a bad signal at a quarter of that.

    • @lawrencemoore8854

    About 20 minutes ago , I was way out over the Ocean and kept getting Signal lost all the the time , it was quite frustrating cause this never happened before ! I don't know what was going on , so I pulled up my Map View to see exactly where I was and then I pushed the Return To Home and after it got a few miles closer then i took over manually , This has never happened before but we had some really bad Weather all lastnight , don't know if this could be a factor but yeah. Things can happen when you least expect it .

    When I hand launch and land, I usually grab it from the front. There's more clearance between your fingers and the props, and a bit more room ahead of the sensors.

    My zoom and mini 2 have done that many times to me. First time was a pucker but once I realized everything was ok then I started to stop panicing

    • @wingerrrrrrrrr
      @wingerrrrrrrrr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I decided it was good idea to try out the circle quickshot in a backyard with trees (it wasn't) while it was just about 10 feet away, thinking it'd just go around in a tight circle. The minimum diameter was something like 40m, so it quickly turned into a panic as it headed sideways towards the perimeter of trees.
      Panic. Hit the button to abort! Nothing. Likely was hitting the function button instead of the big RTH abort button, as I don't usually use that button. I was probably just mindlessly pushing the usual button in the final few seconds, with the panicky realization of imminent disaster.
      Flew right into the thicket about 20 feet up. Needed binoculars to see the blinking led light with the Find me option turned on. Needed to climb up to get to it. Poison ivy all over the tree. Poison ivy all over me climbing up. Broken left arm after next folly of shaking the tree branches to dislodge it to send it crashing to the ground (Mini 2 arm, not mine). I should have had someone catch it coming down or some gentler reentry to Earth.
      $25 replacement arm from Amazon, and it's back. Know now what not to do again...

    29 Million views, congrats Aldyn. So have you printed pictures from this drone on metal? Just curious if you had. I have hired a young fellow to fly his Mavic 2 Zoom for me these past few montsh. I love the footage it has yielded. I had my heart set on the Mavic 2 Pro and then ... boom today happened and there is no more Mavic 2 Pro. So now I am studying this drone for myself and my sons use. Is this drone still viable going in to 2022? Thanks Will

    Awsome test, exactly what I needed to know. As for charging, 2 remarks. 1st, Android device charges off of the remote as well (Samsung S9+ in my case) no issues. Just enable it in the settings. 2nd, while charging your mobile you still have remote's charging slot open - plug powerbank and you're safe. Powerbank will charge remote, remote will charge the phone. Cheers.

    • @mysticaldragon2740
      @mysticaldragon2740 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      there is no setting to turn charging on or off in the android app. This was removed a long time ago and according to dji its based on android requirements for power to communicate with a device. I wish we had this option as I dont need my controller charging my tablet that I use to fly.

    Hi Aldryn , I flew my DJI mini 2 and it was about 5 feet in the air right underneath a tree and I was really close to the drone and all of a sudden the remote was on, and the drone had battery and the phone had battery but it turned off like it lost connection and it did the rth and hit the tree branch so now I’m really trying to be careful not to crash it. Thanks for the video!
